Hooked early, but left with so many questions!
Wood You Be Mine started off with so much promise! The opening chapters completely hooked me. Alice’s clumsy, hilarious antics (almost burning down a cabin, arguing with a moose, and an incredibly chaotic naked introduction) paired with Henri’s stiff, grumpy, flannel clad energy made for a fantastic setup. The banter and the small town grumpy lumberjack meets sunshine vibe were top tier early on.
I really loved watching Alice’s personal growth throughout the story and seeing Henri finally work through his emotions and let himself be loved. Their romantic connection was super sweet, and I adored how they welcomed Tucker and Goldie into their lives.
However, around the halfway mark, the plot started trying to balance way too many subplots at once, and the ending left me super confused! While the romantic arc and individual character growth got resolution, so many major plotlines were completely left hanging. What actually ended up happening with the Feds? What was going on with the trucks? What happened with the dad?! And for a book centered on Alice proving herself as the elementary school principal to save her job, the school aspect completely faded away with zero closure on how things turned out for her career.
Overall, it was a cute, fun romance with great character dynamics, but the unresolved plot holes kept it from being a higher rating for me.
