I’m stunned that this is a debut novel. It’s so well written, populated with realistic characters and graced by a well-crafted, believable story arc. The book is achingly plausible, and as such, it’s not fun getting through Will’s weakness or Julia’s stubbornness. Unlike so many in the genre, though, this bleeds realism, not contrivance. Never fear, you don’t have to suffer complete bleakness in the service of a well-written work; this one will not leave you depressed for weeks afterward. I so enjoyed my time with these characters and eagerly await the author’s next book.

The book is achingly plausible, and as such, it’s not fun getting through Will’s weakness or Julia’s stubbornness. Unlike so many in the genre, though, this bleeds realism, not contrivance.
