Description

Fake dating the man I've loved since I was sixteen to escape my stalker ex? Sounds exactly like something that would happen to me.

Jennifer Blakely had done the work. She'd made peace with her best friend Adam leaving, first for college and then the NFL. She'd learned to live with the years apart and the feelings she'd had to hide — tucked away so carefully she'd almost believed they were gone. When he returns to their Pennsylvania hometown, eight years of careful convincing unravels in a single look.

The timing couldn't be worse. The Mayor's son, her ex, has been leaving voicemails she's too scared to delete, showing up in places he shouldn't, and looking at her like she's something he owns. But in a town his father controls with an iron fist, no one ever steps in to stop him.

No one… except Adam.

Jennifer would find it a lot easier to say no if she didn't still have feelings for him.

Adam spent eight years avoiding her to try and bury the feelings he had for her. Coming home was supposed to clear his head, to help him decide the next phase of his career and yeah — to see Jennifer. Instead, he finds her constantly looking over her shoulder and pretending she's fine when he knows she is anything but. After seeing her ex, protecting his person became his sole purpose. Keeping her close was the only thing that made sense.

He wasn't prepared for how fast being by her side became something he didn't want to give up.

Her ex is watching. And he is running out of patience.

The danger is real. So are the feelings. And they are running out of reasons to keep saying it's all pretend.

Jennifer and Adam. oh you've both put my heart through the ringer with this one.but i wouldn't have missed it for the world because this book was amazing.
our pair have been friends since childhood. always close and always then something more. Jennifer loved him forever. but never felt brave enough to tell him.
Jennifer has spent the last years since Adam left for his soaring career trying t build her life. bury it. move on. because he has.and shes done that. but it hasn't all gone well. her ex is now stalking her, becoming sinister and its taking its toll.
and then...
Adam comes home. hes got decisions to think through over his career and next steps. and secretly, actually he wants to come home to see her. his Jennifer. hes spent all his time trying t build something too, one that wont jeopardise what they have by telling her the truth.aghhhhh you two!! once home he notices how she is jumping at shadows. shes jittery. shes not ok. and so Adam does what he knows he would always do. protect her. so he stand up and stands by her and he does this by the genius and not going to get complicated way of faking to be her boyfriend. oh dear, oh dear and so it begins. because we ALLLLL Know they are not faking it. and their moments together only goes to prove that. and we get to witness it. wahoo!
her ex is the son of the town mayor though. so hes out of limits of what will be done to stop him. and its disturbing and not ok.
this was such a wonderful book. i love our main characters. their bond might have been lovely when they were younger. now, now its solid, safe and something kind of beautiful.
i loved this book so much. i couldn't get enough and just sat and read it all. i had to know how this would all end. i had to make sure Katze wouldnt break my heart and not give them their HEA.

Jen and Adam have been best friends since they were 5 years old, but when Adam goes off to college and starts playing pro football, they fell out of touch. Adam is back and their chemistry and affection picks right back up where they left all those years ago. Jen has had a traumatic year trying to heal from the trauma her ex, the mayor's son inflicted on her. Adam is a protector and will do anything to keep Jen safe. As they begin a fake dating scheme to deflect Jen's ex, feelings some into play and the people of their small town are all too happy to win their bets about Adam and Jen finally getting together.

In this small town the mayor pulls all the strings, and Jen has to fight for her rights and safety from her ex. This story is about perseverance, healing, and finding support in the right people. I loved the found family, mental, emotional, and physical health representation, and truth of going after what is right.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for a read of Hearts on the Line. I enjoyed this story and the how well sensitive topics were handled with such care. It had humor, spice, a protective and cinnamon roll of a man down bad for his girl, and a strong FMC. Definitely worth the read!
