What does someone do when the worst secret of his past collides with his present? Eric Carmichael is about to find out.

On the eve of his company’s IPO, Eric finds himself in a pool of blood that isn’t his with a hatchet in hand and no memory of what transpired. The Urban Dwellers swing into action to uncover the truth – and hire Eric's ex, private investigator Nina Rodriguez to help.

Nina barely escaped her brief relationship with Eric with her heart intact. She has no intention of repeating her past mistakes, but with Eric’s future hanging in the balance, she can’t say no to him.

Unfortunately for Nina, tangling up with Eric again means she is directly in the line of fire for the one who set in motion the plan to take down all of the Urban Dwellers. Eric holds the key to everything, but he might be too late to save her.

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
This is book three in the "Urban Dwellers" series. I would recommend that you read book two "Secrets that Simmer' before reading this one. Book two had left you will a cliffhanger that starts back up in this book.
Eric wakes up to find that there is a dead women in his bathtub that he thought was dead years ago and there had been a mystery then what happened that night. Now he is arrested for murder and his friends along with himself try to figure out what happens. This brings Nina back into his life. They were in a relationship a few years back and he broke it off because he was starting to feel something and also because Nina was put off by people becoming shiftier because her brother didn't survive his bite to become a shiftier. But now Eric seems to know that she is his mate and that he can't fight his feelings any longer. Nina still is hurt that Eric had ended their relationship as he did and she also thinks he always that she wasn't good enough for him. So they start to go forward with finding out how the girl Jillian can seem to be dead twice and how they can move forward with their present relationship.
