Description
Defense attorney Dean Quinlan’s newest client wants to confess to three murders. And he wants everyone to know.
That makes him the perfect lawyer, since he runs a popular legal web channel. When his new series—Confessions of a Serial Killer—goes viral, Dean and his anonymous client become instant celebrities.
His firm wants him gone. His wife threatens to leave. A relentless detective begins circling, convinced Dean is more accomplice than counsel, while a shadowy private investigator named Elias Hargrave seems to be tracking his every move.
What no one knows is that Dean’s client is blackmailing him, with evidence that makes him look like the murderer. If he refuses to keep broadcasting the confessions, he’ll be the one in handcuffs. That leaves only one option: stop his own client before he can kill again.
As the body count rises and the killer’s twisted occult rituals grow more elaborate, Dean realizes the confessions aren’t the endgame. They’re a countdown.
To a blood-soaked final sacrifice, with the world watching.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4.5/5)
*The Dark Within Me* by Frank Cavallo was one of those books that slowly pulled me in until I couldn't put it down. I loved how it explored the darker side of human nature without feeling over-the-top. The story was intense, emotional, and had me constantly questioning the characters' motives.
The author does a great job building suspense, and I found myself second-guessing what was going to happen right up until the end. The emotional struggles felt authentic, and I appreciated that the characters weren't perfect—they were flawed, complicated, and believable.
The pacing started a little slow, but once everything fell into place, I was completely hooked. If you enjoy psychological suspense with morally gray characters, emotional depth, and plenty of twists, this is definitely worth picking up. The ending left me thinking long after I finished the last page.
Definitely recommend if you're looking for a dark, thought-provoking read.

The idea and concept for this book hooked me immediately. The writing is compelling, the characters are well developed, and the story moves along at a great pace. There is just the right amount of normality mixed in (bowling, eating, conversation, etc) to keep the story relatable while mixing in incredible foreshadowing and plenty of twists and turns.
"A mission to fulfill. And it would be a story written in blood and fire."
A story written in fire and blood indeed. There are graphic moments, intense moments as well as soft moments. Just when you think you have the plot and the characters all figured out... you're wrong.
“Then I guess we’re both gonna burn.”
The ending of this book moves quickly, keeps my wheels spinning and delivered a shocking ending I did not see coming!
Definitely recommend to readers who enjoy high stakes suspense with a serial killer and plenty of incredible plot development.
What Is Dark Within Me was one of those thrillers that completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. The premise alone is incredibly compelling: after crossing paths with a serial killer and becoming entangled in a fatal accident, a successful lawyer with a strong online presence starts receiving disturbing videos from the killer himself. From that moment on, the story becomes an intense game of cat and mouse that kept me glued to the pages.
What I loved most was the pacing. The plot moves at exactly the right speed, with every chapter introducing a new clue, revelation, or obstacle that made it impossible to stop reading. The mystery unfolds naturally, allowing the suspense to build without ever feeling repetitive or forced.
The characters are another major strength. They have distinct personalities and believable motivations, making it easy to become emotionally invested in their journey. I particularly enjoyed following the protagonist as he tried to untangle the mystery while dealing with the consequences of his own actions. His determination to uncover the truth, despite the increasing danger surrounding him, made the story even more compelling.
Frank Cavallo also does an excellent job of creating an unsettling atmosphere. There is a constant feeling that the killer is always one step ahead, and the psychological tension only grows as the investigation progresses. Every new video and every revelation raised the stakes, leaving me questioning who could be trusted and how everything would ultimately connect.
And then came the ending... absolutely breathtaking. The way the author brings all the pieces together is both clever and deeply satisfying. It was one of those finales that made me stop for a moment after turning the last page, replaying the entire story in my head and appreciating just how carefully everything had been constructed.

I enjoyed reading this novel. To begin with, the sigil on the cover is what drew me in. This is the first ARC book I have read and it did not disappoint me. The formatting is interesting. Underneath each chapter number is the scene location and time of the day. This prepared me for what would be happening next.I think the most curious thing about his writing is that each chapter flows into the next. It caused me to be careful not to stop in a scene that connects to the next chapter. Last night I happened to haphazardly stop at the ending of a chapter such as that. I sure did pay the price of a reading itch that lasted the eight hours of my work day. I hope to never do that again. At first, I gave this novel a four star rating until I had written that previous sentence.
