One Creepy Street: Annica's Broom

3.5/5 stars. This book is really cute, the verse is amusing and well-done, and the illustrations are adorable. But I feel like its "no texting while riding your broom" is aimed at teenagers while the style is more suitable for younger children. I don't think teens would read this and I'm not sure the message would be fully absorbed by younger children.

I am just a little confused about the audience for this book. I probably would have rated it higher if not for that. I thought the rhyming story was cute and flowed well. I loved the illustrations, they were vibrant, detailed and fun to look at. The message of do not text and drive is very apparent, but would people of driving age be reading this book?

The story is about Annika who is out riding on her broom when she receives a text. She has been told over and over not to use her phone when she is driving/riding her broom, but surly she can take a quick look. Of course, we know that is not okay because she loses control of her broom and falls from the sky straight to Creepy Street. When she awakens she finds her pet bat Murray has a wing in a cast and a sling and she is covered in bandages. She knows she can not get home without getting her broom fixed. With the help of a local policeman and many other strange creatures, she makes her way through town to find someone to help her repair her broom.

If teenagers are reading this book I think it might be too young for them unless they are reading to younger children. The message may not reach the intended audience unless the hope is that younger children will speak up to parents and older siblings if they see them on their phones texting or talking while they are driving.

First off..this book was really good but a little long winded for a kids book. I loved the pictures and the story but I thought that it was a little long for kids. I loved this anyway! I was happy with the rhymes too!

I thought this was a good way to introduce the idea of not texting while driving. It's more about paying attention to what you're doing while you're doing it, but the kids will get the idea easily enough. What I didn't like was the attempt to write in rhyme. It's not very successful, and was sort of distracting to me.

Nice lesson, but too many words per page. Looks like a picture book but seems to appeal to older audience, so marketing may be tricky.

The chief reason this book is a three-star is that I couldn't quite decide who the intended audience was. The story follows a broom-riding witch who runs amok when she attempts to text and fly, however the picture book format seems to be geared toward younger children. Otherwise, the story has an important message related to safety and one that maybe resonates in the parent's head after reading to their younger child?

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when first looking at the cover of this book, but the illustrations looked amusing, and I’ve liked witches and/or Halloween-themed things since I was a child (so I would likely have picked this book up as a kid too).

The amount of words per page makes this book seem like it is for older children, rather than very very young ones. The rhyming was amusing, and I found the message to be very modern. It presented the consequences for using technology while driving in a light manner, while also making it clear that what has happened to Annica is not a pleasant thing.

I found the illustrations very enjoyable. They were very unique, as well as very detailed. Every time that I flip through this book, I find that I notice a new detail!

I would buy and would recommend this book.

I read One Creepy Street: Annica's Broom to my 6 year old son as his bedtime story. He thought the book was absolutely hysterical!

My children absolutely loved this book. I enjoyed the pictures and art work. I want to purchase a hard copy for our personal library.

This is a very cute story with a great message about not texting while driving (a broom). However, since children of the age to read this story won't be driving for quite a few years, I hope that they remember the story when they are of an age to drive.

Wonderful story for kids to read and learn a valuable lesson about texting and driving. It's important to stay focused and not worry about texting. There's a time and a place. Fun character to follow along as she learns a very valuable lesson. Family should read this book together and have a discussion. Good read.
