I loved getting the behind-the-scenes story of how Elf went from a risky screenplay to the beloved Christmas classic it is today. The stories from the cast and crew were funny, interesting, and made me appreciate the movie even more. My one small irk was Andy Richter including quite a few stories about himself and his career, which sometimes distracted from the overall tone and story of the movie. Overall, though, this was a fun read for any Elf fan!

Elf Unwrapped is such a fun and jolly read about the creation of the much-beloved Elf Christmas movie. I loved the deep dive and insightful behind-the-scenes details about the film. The interesting tidbits and facts about the scriptwriting, finding a director, and actors were fascinating. The exclusive interviews were my favorite part! I also liked the added graphics for the content page and chapters.

Overall, this made me want to watch the movie again! If you love Elf, this is a great read! I highly recommend it to get into the upcoming festive spirit!

Why does this beguile? Elf is a modern holiday classic. I learned more than I expected (like Jon Favreau has an improv background?!) and was reminded that it’s important to look at a seemingly mundane world through child-like wonder to maintain the magic of the world. It’s also a fun and quick read, and reminds you that no path to creation is ever as direct and linear as you want.

It’s a lovely, joyful look back at a hilarious holiday movie with a lot of heart. Andy Richter makes for a great storyteller (and sidekick - read the book, you’ll get the reference).

Soooo good, a must read for any fan! I loved every minute of it and wish they’d make a part two. If you like elf, read this book!

I was so excited to read Elf Unwrapped by Andy Richter and Aaron Karo that I watched Elf in the middle of summer in preparation. Elf Unwrapped essentially takes you through the journey of Elf getting made, and I especially enjoyed the background it provided on Will Ferrell and Jon Favreau. It was so fun to hear the stories behind some of the funniest moments in the film, especially when they were improvised. I enjoyed it so much that at one point I stopped reading so I could google other books about the making of movies (I added the book about Shaun of the Dead to my TBR). Overall this book was a fun and festive nonfiction book about a Christmas movie classic!

What a fun and hilarious ride this was! Elf has always been one of my very favorite Christmas movies so when the opportunity to read this came about, I had to take it!

Much like the movie, Elf: Unwrapped is a wonderful blend of laughs and heart. Written by Andy Richter, who also plays one of Walter Hobbs’ writer in the movie, along with Aaron Karo, Elf: Unwrapped takes us on a journey through the life of the movie, from its beginnings several years prior to its very eventful premieres, showcasing all of the ups and downs, the challenges and wins, and offers insights through the personal accounts of none other than Jon Favreau and Will Ferrell, among many other amazing talents that made Elf possible.

Perfect for fans of Elf, this behind the scenes is one you’ll want curl up and read with a nice cup of hot cocoa…or candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup.
