Description
Eternity is not a reward. It is a hostage situation.
To the world, Zagoran Vane is a pious acolyte of Clevius—the Arbiter of Works. But he has no interest in salvation. He has discovered a horrifying truth: heroes who take the legendary Sevenfold Toll do not rest in the afterlife. When they die, they are tethered to the souls of the enemies they have slain, bound in an eternal, screaming prison of their own making.
Where others see a curse, Zagoran sees an opportunity. He is not hunting to kill; he is hunting to curate. He will travel across the continent of Paroak to find the most vibrant and passionate women, earning their love and their devotion. He believes he is an architect building a private heaven, protecting these masterpieces from the nothingness of the void. In reality, he is building a bespoke hell, convinced that by murdering them, he is the only one truly saving them.
Aniche Casian is a noble daughter of the Guronian Coast, born into a world of silk, limestone, and false devoutness. Sold as a political asset by her family, she finds her only salvation in the forbidden worship of the Borga- the Weaver of Threads. She decides she wasn't going to be a victim of the contract. She was going to become the contract’s auditor.
Their collision is inevitable — and catastrophic.

Dark, twisted, and unlike anything I've read in a while. Solomon Franco's writing has this moody, atmospheric quality that pulled me in from the first page.
Really impressive debut

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Dark, twisted, and genuinely unlike anything I've read in a while! This dual-POV fantasy pulled me in from page one. Zagoran Vane is such a chilling, morally gray lead, a self-styled "architect of eternity" who truly believes he's saving the women he hunts, when really he's trapping them forever. Aniche Casian is a wonderful counter to him, a noble daughter turned secret devotee who refuses to be anyone's victim, and their collision course kept me hooked. Solomon Franco's writing has such a moody, atmospheric quality, and I loved how the story leaned into deep character psychology instead of easy answers. It's a really impressive debut with a genuinely original dark setting, and I'd happily read more from this author! My only small critique is that I wanted a bit more worldbuilding and political context to fully ground myself. Still, this was engaging start to finish, and I can't wait to see where the trilogy goes!
