A really strong collection for true-crime readers. I especially liked the variety—these aren’t all the same kinds of crimes or stories, and the longform format gives each piece room to become genuinely absorbing. Interesting, disturbing, and very easy to dip in and out of.

Readers of True Crime are a particular group. They don't want to read about the everyday crime faced by most law enforcement. The story has to be unusual and mind-bending at the same time. Almost a "you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it" story that leaves you talking about it with your buddies and researching to make sure it's true. When the book's editor is a former FBI agent who now makes his living writing about crimes, it lends a little "oompf" to the choice. Yes, the stories are true...but...are they the best? It's up to the readers to decide.

Books of short stories are excellent recommendations when you're asked for something different. They're great to have handy when you find yourself spending downtime and need something to read. I keep a couple of these books queued up on my Kindle, just in case.
