Description
If he kisses me right now, I’ll drown.
Every sip of air is shallow and burning, because in the arms of my best friend’s brother, I’m the closest I’ve ever been to sin.
His eyes flick to my lips, and I remember the first time I tasted him, seven years ago before I left this town and vowed never to return. His hands grip my waist, and I remember the pain when he rejected me, when my entire world crashed down at his command. His jaw clenches, and my senses come alive with one stinging reminder.
I’m not his to kiss, and he’s not mine.
I tried to stay away from Tyler Wagner, putting an entire country between us. But when his sister’s wedding brings us back to the same town, to the same house, I can’t avoid him, no matter how hard I try.
He’s always there, his dark eyes bewitching, luring me into their depths. The memory of us pulls me under like a rip current, and when he flashes that smile, I lose my breath, along with my will, unable to escape his grip and find the surface.
Now, hours before our plus ones arrive for the wedding, I’m in his arms, begging him to make me hate him, knowing he never could.
If he kisses me right now, I’ll drown.
And I’ll take him down with me.

I just love when I have a new Kandi Steiner audiobook to listen to. This book was wonderful. Tyler & Jasmine will take you on a rollercoaster ride in life but it's worth all the ups and downs we go through to get to the end. This book will have you laughing, smiling, swooning, breaking your heart and then she will put it back together. I couldn't get enough of it and was sad when it was over because I wanted more.
The narrator Holly Warren did a wonderful job telling this story. I don't usually like one narrator but she held my attention and kept me entertained the entire time. I had a great time listening to her.
Tyler is Jasmine's best friend's brother but also one of her friends. But after Jasmine has a terrible night she runs to see Morgan to cry on her shoulder and talk to her until she realizes she's not home. Then Tyler comes to her rescue but then one thing leads to another and they don't speak for years.
Now Jasmine has to return to be in Morgan's wedding and there's no way she can avoid Tyler the whole time she's there so this should be interesting. These two have such a unique relationship. They have instant chemistry and can still act like friends but is there still more there for them?
If you love a story that will pull you in from the beginning and take you on one heck of an emotional rollercoaster ride then this book is for you! I love Kandi Steiner's writing because she makes you feel all your feelings but leaves you with the perfect ending! I highly recommend this book.
Thank you Kandi Steiner, Keeperton Audiobooks & NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.

Make Me Hate You by Kandi Steiner
Tyler & Jasmine
Tyler and Jasmine became best friends in high school, along with Tyler’s sister, Morgan. Jasmine’s mother struggles with addiction and leaves for rehab. When she finally returns, she decides she no longer wants the responsibility of raising Jasmine, leaving her completely alone.
Jasmine turns to the only place she’s ever truly felt safe—her best friend. In a moment of vulnerability, she and Tyler finally give in to the feelings they’ve buried for years. But just days later, Tyler tells her it was a mistake, leaving Jasmine heartbroken.
Seven years later, Jasmine returns to her hometown for Morgan’s wedding. Being back means facing Tyler again, and all the feelings she thought she’d left behind come rushing back.
This is an emotional second chance romance with a best friend’s brother trope, filled with heartbreak, longing, and undeniable chemistry.
My heart broke for Jasmine. She spent her entire life believing she wasn’t enough, and all I wanted was for someone to prove her wrong. Watching Tyler and Jasmine find their way back to each other was emotional, beautiful, and completely worth the wait.
I absolutely recommend this one!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC. This is my honest review.
Second read through (immersive read with audio)
I originally read this book in 2022 and it was my first Kandi Steiner book. I loved it the first time and loved it again this time around! This book has so much angst and will tug at your heart strings. Two people that belong together but it took a while to get them there. I forgot that the book was only in the FMC’s POV until the epilogue. I’m so used to reading dual POV now I wasn’t sure how it would be but I absolutely loved it!
Holly Warren did a great job with the audio and had so much emotional depth to her narration I listened to it in one sitting. It may have been 2am by the time I finished but it was worth missing out on sleep!
Thanks to Keeperton Audio for the gifted copy!
Another BEAUTIFUL and angsty Kandi Steiner read. I’ve been a fan of this author for years and I can always count on her to deliver the tension! This time in the form of a wrong person/wrong time situation. What I love about Kandi’s writing is how she’s able to capture all the emotions in each characters choices. Loved this one and will read again.
Kandi Steiner just knows how to put me through emotional torture and honestly, I'm here for it!!! Is there nothing she can't write?! Sports? check. Emotional? check. Angst? check, check, CHECK!! She really is the queen of angst, and Make Me Hate You is another reminder of why I will keep coming back to her books.
Make Me Hate You is packed with all the angst, longing, tension, and heartbreak I could possibly want. Jasmine and Tyler were best friends who fell in love as teenagers, only to spend seven years apart carrying around feelings neither of them ever truly got over. Being forced back together for Morgan's wedding was basically a recipe for disaster... and I was completely invested in every second of it.
Admittedly the cheating aspect of this book won't work for everyone. But Kandi somehow made it feel real rather than just dramatic for the sake of it. I didn't always agree with the choices Jasmine and Tyler made, but I completely understood and empathised with them. Their love felt messy, complicated, and impossible to ignore, and I found myself completely consumed by them and their love for each other.
I loved how emotional this book was. The chemistry between Jasmine and Tyler is incendiary, but it was their history, all the hurt, and all the years of unspoken feelings between them both that really got to me. There were moments that genuinely made my heart ache for both of them.
Holly Warren did such a fantastic job narrating this book and brought so much raw emotion and intensity to this story. This audio delivered an extra suckerpunch to the gut and made me SO emotional!!
This was emotional, addictive, frustrating in the best way, and impossible to put down. If you love second-chance romance, best friend's brother, friends-to-lovers, forbidden love, slow-burn tension, and enough angst to make your chest hurt, I can't recommend this one enough ❤️✨
Kandi Steiner really said here's an enemies-to-lovers story that's going to make you feel everything at maximum volume and then delivered on that promise so completely i had to put the book down just to collect myself.
“Make Me Hate You” is the kind of romance that grabs you by the chest and doesn't let go. The tension between the two leads is suffocating in the best possible way — every interaction crackles, every almost-moment lingers, and the slow burn is so deliciously painful you'll be begging for the release.
What sets this apart from your typical enemies-to-lovers is the emotional depth underneath all that fire. Steiner doesn't just give you the sizzle — she gives you the heartbreak, the history, the complexity. these characters feel real in a way that makes their journey hit so much harder.
I was a mess by the end. a happy, fulfilled, emotionally wrecked mess.
Kandi Steiner writes romance like she has a personal vendetta against your feelings and this one is staying with me for a long time.
