Description

Gemma Callahan's life is spiraling out of control. Her parents' divorce and her father's financial troubles force her to pull the plug on her dream of attending McGill’s music program and find a job—any job—to help pay the growing pile of bills. It seems too good to be true when she lands a gig walking the dog of an eccentric billionaire. However, Gemma’s integrity is put to the test when her employer offers her an even more enticing reward to befriend his grandson. There’s a catch, though: Chase Buckner, is an insufferable piece of work. If it weren't for the fact that she needed the money, she would gladly kick his finely sculpted couture ass to the curb and never lay eyes on him again.

By all accounts, Chase Buckner had it all. He was the high school star quarterback, and a billionaire’s grandson with a hefty trust fund. But Chase's life is far from perfect. After flunking high school, he is carted off to Stonebridge, his grandfather’s estate, to spend the summer straightening his life out. He wouldn’t normally give Gemma Callahan, his grandfather’s newest hire, the time of day, but her unfaltering optimism continues to beguile him, drawing him out of his well of self-pity. He starts to wonder if he might actually have a chance at turning his life around…and maybe, just maybe, finding happiness in the truest friendship he’s ever known. Will it last when he discovers it’s all been a lie?

Thank you to Chloe and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and quickly became invested in both Gemma and Chase. The story beautifully captures the teenage belief that every battle must be fought alone, even when support is right within reach.

Following their journey as they uncovered not only hidden truths but also the kind of life they wanted for themselves was both moving and rewarding. Their growth, resilience, and determination made this a truly enjoyable read.

The side characters also added significant depth to the story and enriched the overall reading experience. Hank, in particular, stood out to me. His journey of reflecting on his past, acknowledging his mistakes, and trying to build the relationship with Chase that he hadn't been able to before added an emotional layer to the narrative. His reflection felt genuine and heartfelt, and his story served as a powerful reminder that it's never too late to make changes or try to mend what was once broken.

Together, the journeys of Gemma, Chase, and the supporting characters created a compelling and emotionally resonant story.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.

This was such an enjoyable and heartfelt read. I loved following Gemma and Chase as they navigated difficult truths, complicated relationships and the challenges of growing into who they wanted to be.

The characters felt genuine, and the emotional moments really stayed with me. A touching story about family, forgiveness, resilience and finding your way forward.

First of all, I am deeply in love with this book.

I just know this will be the book that will give me a book hangover. The writing is extremely detailed and emerges you into Gemma and Chase's world. You get to live their thoughts and feeling as if they were your own.

The dual POVs is just spectacular, Chloe Fowler really knows how to write two characters with completely different lives that somehow find their way to each other.

If you need a book that will keep you on your toes, this is the right book!

The title and the cover are breathtaking, done so well and fit the exact vibe the book was going for. I could not put this book down I read it in one sitting!

Not only about romance, but also being rejected, failing, learning to forgive, learning to be happy and learning to deal with divorced parents. Truly a spectacular book. I swear it will be on my mind for the next couple months, if not forever.

Thank you so much Chloe Fowler for letting me read this book ahead of time, I really hope to hear more from you soon!! xx
