Sheep: Classified is a literary novel blending historical fiction, political satire, science fiction and British humour.

In the summer of 2026, a classified file spanning two thousand years was released against legal advice. The sheep remains chiefly concerned about the grass.

The file follows Dr Shepherd, a government vet, and a highly rational sheep through six eras of human history. Their journey takes them from ancient Rome to Warwickshire in 1580, Robert Owen’s New Harmony, London in 1937, and places in which history has become considerably less reliable.

Along the way, they encounter emperors, idealists, writers, officials, and ordinary people attempting to survive the stories imposed upon them.

The solicitor who examined the file issued a serious warning. If released, the people described within it would probably avoid arguing with its contents. They would construct a more convenient story about the person who released it instead.

The warning was understood.

The file was released anyway.

Beneath its time-travelling structure is a story about power, language, memory, and the quiet human tendency to replace an inconvenient truth with a more useful one.
