“Whispers from the Deep” by Milli Schweizer is a suspenseful thriller with a mystery that unfolds at a steady pace, with plenty of tension. It was an enjoyable read and if you enjoy mystery-driven thrillers with plenty of suspense, this one is worth checking out.

There was plenty of tension in the story, and it is a mystery-driven thriller to showcase the plot and what it does. Audrey is driven to solve a murder and will navigate the story's twists and turns.

I was excited for this one because of the premise. It seemed like it would be thrilling and mysterious. Unfortunately, I was let down. To me, this book was just a constant barrage of telling me. We bought a boat. This is what we do on the boat. Let’s solve a murder. It didn’t have any emotional depth or intensity to keep me deeply engaged. It just felt very surface level like telling me about the boat over and over and then the ending like damn now I’m a famous singer. I am probably not the right audience for the book. The writing wasn’t bad, just the execution felt very lackluster to me.

I love the setting of Lake Neuchâtel in Portalban, Switzerland. Former detective Audrey Kilburn had to take an early retirement because of an accident while chasing a criminal. After she recovered, she believed that her life in the quiet lakeside village of Portalban is what she needs. She buys a boat and dreams of peace and enjoyment with friends. But, when a murder shocks the peaceful community, she gets involved in solving the crime. I like Audrey from the start. She is smart and sharp-eyed. The twists and turns keep you engaged till the end. People are hiding secrets and betrayals, which makes it difficult to identify the killer.
It is a slow-moving book, but interesting. Characters are goodI and there's enough suspense. I enjoyed the mystery.
