This was such a beautiful read, with both illustrations and the story working together well to make the reader understand the point of teamwork. The book is targeted towards a younger audience but I could relate to it from an adult's perspective as well. I loved it, heartily recommend it, and will check out more works from the author in the future.

The Elephant in the Room is a cute play on an old adage. Using whimsical pictures, it details a family trying to get rid of The Elephant in the Room.

I read this with my five-year-old daughter, and she was laughing! We really enjoyed the pictures and the slow growth of the elephant. It was such a fun way to demonstrate the need for families to work together to fix problems.

This book is a cute story of dealing with a problem is a group effort. I see this as a Social Emotional learning book to start a conversation with students. It shows the English language Phraseology of the Elephant in the room, which means a problem. The book addresses that having a problem is not only one persons problem but something that will get bigger if not dealt with. I can see a conversation with students about addressing a problem includes telling others about it, and working together to solve it, not just ignoring the problem.

This book made me smile! As a parent of young children, I’m constantly encouraging them to take ownership and responsibility for their actions. Yet when everyone ignores a problem, it keeps getting bigger and bigger, just like the elephant in this story.

I loved how the author uses something so cute and relatable to show children that when everyone continues to ignore a problem, job, or mess it only grows. Eventually everyone needs to come together and do their part. It was such a fun way to teach children about responsibility, teamwork, and taking ownership.

And that last page with the skunk…..perfect 😂

The Elephant in the Room uses a fun, literal spin on the idiom with a hilarious soapy-tarp rescue mission and a cheeky ending that kids will love. Great illustrations and an important message about not letting small problems swell into big ones.

ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM is a fun story about addressing a problem no one wants to discuss. The author shows how pretense and avoidance don't improve a situation but everyone working together can. This kind of story could be heavy but Wolverton uses a light touch, humor, and literary devices to make it charming and perfect for family discussions. The illustrations complement the spare text and the agency of the main character is empowering. The fun ending leaves a nice surprise to savor. A lovely addition to any collection.

I love a good idiom and this one takes the cake. In The Elephant in the Room there is a literal elephant in the literal room and a family has to figure out what to do about it. Hollie's words, along with Krisztina's illustrations, detail the misadventures and ultimate triumph of the family in a playful, humorous and engaging way guaranteed to make this book a favorite on your shelf.

This is a great socioemotional learning (SEL) story about how to work together to solve problems and the importance of addressing issues before they become overwhelming - the elephant continues to grow! Read to our children (age 4, 5, 7, and 7). They all enjoyed the story and were engaged. They enjoyed the humorous twist at the end as well. A great, accessible story with an important lesson. Loved the illustrations as well. As a licensed clinical mental health counselor working with children and a mother of seven, this is a book that has earned a place in my personal and professional libraries!

This is such a cute and charming book. I really loved the elephant character and couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him when he ended up sitting outside all by himself in the end!
​My children took the story quite literally, but it was a huge hit with them nonetheless. It provides a wonderful starting point for discussion, and we will definitely be chatting a bit more about the underlying message to help deepen their understanding of what "the elephant in the room" really means. Highly recommended for family read-alouds!

What an absolutely adorable book! Kids are going to CACKLE particularly at the last page! The book works as a silly romp about a literal elephant, but of course opens up discussions about how to work together as a team. A great read for any family who needs a chuckle, but also a good one for classrooms where problem solving as a team might be a . . . problem. I could see this one especially loved by preschoolers and preschool classrooms.
