Collects issues #1-5.
Select praise for Red Roots:
"Red Roots is the shining example of what comics can be at their best. A wholly original concept with characters you are instantly invested in as they traverse a story with twists and turns you could never predict. This is the comic series you’ve been waiting your whole life for." —Robert Kirkman, Invincible, The Walking Dead
“Lorenzo De Felici leans into uncertainty, trusting readers to sit with the tension as two seemingly unrelated stories unfold side by side. The result is hypnotic, shifting between brutal action and unsettling quiet with ease. While it withholds answers, it replaces them with intrigue and unforgettable imagery, making it hard to put down and even harder to stop thinking about once it ends… Bold, exciting, and visually striking.” —AIPT

Red Roots is unlike anything I’ve ever encountered and I’m so glad it exists; everyone with even a passing interest in graphic novels should read it immediately. Like yesterday.
This superb story is difficult to summarize without spoiling, but here goes an attempt.
A kind, mild mannered high school biology teacher is understandably vexed to discover a desiccated human head in her closet. Meanwhile, a deadly assassin kills his way through the tower hideout of a powerful kingpin, seemingly bent on revenge. These two extremely disparate narrative threads come together in the most unexpected way imaginable. The result is nothing short of lightning in a bottle.
The story in this graphic novel is utterly compelling. I was hooked from page 2-3 (whenever the head showed up) and was only pulled further in as the narrative went on. I can’t tell any more than I’ve disclosed already, but trust me it ramps up and up as time goes on. Distinctive and adeptly crafted artwork and coloring help the plot along nicely and each character has an immediately memorable and compelling look.
I will, of course, be reading the rest of the series. With this splendid set up to start it off, I could hardly do otherwise.

Red Roots Volume 1 by Lorenzo De Felicia is a fantastic and mysterious comic that takes you on a wild journey into a strange and fascinating world.
The story begins almost like an action thriller before gradually transforming into a fantasy adventure filled with wonderful and bizarre creatures that are brought into another world through the mysterious Red Roots.
Volume 1 is an excellent introduction to the series and leaves you desperately wanting more. There are so many unanswered questions, and I absolutely need to know what happens next. I can’t wait to find out where the journey will take the main characters and whether they will eventually manage to find their way back home.
The characters are fantastic. They are cool, diverse, and very different from one another, forming an interesting group that has to find its purpose and destiny in this unfamiliar world.
And there is so much to discover! Monsters, talking heads, adorable creatures, awesome mounts, and plenty of mysteries and puzzles make this a wonderfully wild and imaginative adventure.
I absolutely loved it. The artwork is fantastic, with dynamic panels that perfectly capture the energy of the story. The color scheme works beautifully with both the different worlds and the characters, helping to create a unique atmosphere throughout the comic.
Red Roots is a wonderfully wild mix of action, mystery, and fantasy that definitely leaves you wanting more. I really hope Volume 2 will be released soon because I can’t wait to continue this adventure!

Imagine you are living your everyday life normally and suddenly you are plucked out of it into another world. That is exactly what happens to a train professional assassin and a high-school biology teacher. De Felici’s writing is dark, suspenseful and brilliant. The book has a Mad Max vibe with some Marvel’s Guardian’s of The Galaxy/ Thor Ragnorak elements sprinkled within.
I absolutely loved Red Roots Volume 1, I was captivated immediately by the artwork done by the author. The artwork is beautiful and in some cases you can see where the artist drew inspiration for character designs. Kate, a biology high school teacher’s story arc was interesting to see. She’s just an ordinary person whose life becomes weird once she finds a head in her closet. Agent Sand’s life is the polar opposite of Kate. We are introduced to him in a chaotic and rather loud way. Two different individuals with lives opposite of each other now much work together to try and escape or comprehend their new lives.
“Humans truly are the worst animals” is a line that stuck with me like glue. It brought in the reality of life and reminded me of current news. Unfortunately she will meet worse animals than humans in The Dam. Seriously though someone needs to check on Jane and Rita!

A high school teacher and a professional killer get thrown together in an unlikely duo fashion. The POV swaps between the two, contrasting how vastly different their lives are. When their threads come together, you realize how strange the story is going to be in all the best ways. The world is mysterious and I want more.
I really had no idea what I was getting into when I started this. I went for the cats, and I stayed for the weird story. The cat art is great and none were harmed. I absolutely loved the art style. Movement and action seem very dynamic. There is a lot left unanswered, but it feels intentional, and I am so curious.

The Red Roots is a refreshing comic that combines various genres in one. (Action, Mystery, battle royale, and sci-fi). I cannot say more without revealing spoilers. It begins an opening scene found in any action movie. There are two main characters in the story. Male is a military special forces no nonsense out for revenge type. Female is a high-school biology teacher who is living her mundane life. The stories run concurrently with each other, and the characters find themselves on a different planet via the Red Roots. The purpose of the Red Roots transporting them to the other planet is unknown to anyone. There are rumors and legends, but there is no written or oral history about the planet or Red Roots. The story includes weird characters who would fit well in Star Wars, Greek Mythology or any popular sci-fi movie. The story moves at a good pace between, War, mystery, revenge, and good storytelling. Each chapter expands and reveals more clues. The first volume includes the first 5 books and recommended.

Red Roots Volume 1 is exactly the kind of strange, dark, unsettling horror I love. This graphic novel pulled me in with its mysterious premise and then kept getting weirder and more unpredictable the deeper I went. I loved the contrast between the brutal action and the quieter, creepier moments where you can feel that something is very, very wrong.
The mystery surrounding the red roots had me constantly trying to piece things together, and I loved how the story doesn’t hand you all the answers right away. The artwork is absolutely incredible too—dark, atmospheric, disturbing, and perfectly suited to the story.
This is the kind of horror that makes you want to keep turning pages because you need to know what is happening, even when you’re not sure you actually want to find out. Dark fantasy, supernatural horror, mystery, and some seriously wild imagery made this one a standout for me.

I went in blind and came out swinging! Such a cool story, I'm definitely hooked. I read a lot of fantasy based fiction, but when I saw Red Roots I was deeply interested in the premise and not disappointed by the end. Biology teacher and ex-soldier pulled into another world to fight a war? Sign me up! The story was compelling and action-packed, illustrations/art detailed and perfectly gory, and the paneling was easy to follow for someone who doesn't read graphic novels as often as I should. I'll be looking for Volume 2!

Wow….. I went into this one completely blind. I made a point of not googling it beforehand, and I’m really glad I did.
Red Roots is an ongoing comic series published by Image Comics, written and illustrated by Lorenzo De Felici.
This collected edition brings together issues 1 to 5.
The story starts out feeling like a John Wick-style revenge plot. We have a Delta agent, codenamed Sand, seeking vengeance on the criminal underworld following the death of a loved one. What follows is a series of pages filled with beautifully drawn panels depicting some seriously brutal retribution.
We’re also introduced to Kate, a high school Biology teacher who comes home one day to find a head sitting on her couch.
Without getting into spoilers, both Kate and Sand — who we later find out is named Dante — are suddenly whisked away from our world and into another world entirely.
Their journeys are connected by an Orc-like being named Grit (love the name), who brings them into this strange new world. They’re brought there by a red root which connects to the Mother Root. The Mother Root brings people and beings from across the universe to this world to fight a never-ending war against creatures known as the Muted, who fight in complete silence.
We don’t yet know what criteria are used to determine who gets brought to this world, which is one of the many questions the story leaves hanging.
The volume does a fantastic job of setting up the narrative without giving too much away, and it absolutely leaves you wanting more.
I’ll definitely be carrying on with this series.
For me, it’s an easy 5 out of 5.

Red Roots Vol. 1 is a twisted horror fantasy that seems to be building up to a solid mystery and exploration of war, violence, and purpose. It follows Dante, a former soldier, and Kate, a biology teacher, as they are both pulled into a dark fantasy world where the war never ends.
I really enjoyed this book. The story is still somewhat vague, and there are a lot of unanswered questions. However, that is not surprising. This story is very clearly at the beginning, but the overall presence and main cast does seem like it will be interesting. Kate and Dante’s reactions did get a little grating, but like it was understandable and should get better further on. I’m looking forward to seeing how this story continues to unfold.
The art was also really good. It has a grittiness to it that really adds to the tone of the overall story. I found that the character designs were also really well done.
Overall, Red Roots seems like its building up to be a solid horror series with a lot of grit and gore, and it’s currently my most anticipated on-going series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Image Comics for the advanced copy.

The cover was what drew me initially to Red Roots, but it was the fascinating storyline that kept me interested. It definitely gave me 'The Maxx' vibes, and I loved the Maxx. Just like the main characters, you are left with so many questions, and a few of them get answered, but that just opens up new questions. I will definitely be following this series as it continues and can't wait to read more.
