Description

Imagine paintings that hold the secrets to the meaning of life and death—or scribbled words that can alter the past and reshape the present. We know art imitates life but in Michael B. Koep’s thriller fiction trilogy, the author brings the arts to life in an action-packed tale spanning seven centuries.

In the spring of 1338, young William of Leaves knows only of remedies, herbs and his mother’s kindness. When he is forced to watch as she is dragged to a witch’s pyre by a mob led by the Bishop of London, the mysterious immortal apothecary, Albion Ravistelle, promises the boy a chance at vengeance.

In present day, psychologist Loche Newith and Julia Iris must come to terms with Loche’s prophetic writings that have changed the course of history and shaped the lives of William, Helen, and countless others. As a war breaks out between the immortals on earth and Albion Ravistelle, Loche must accept the realities he has authored and cross over into death—he must enter again into Basil Fenn’s paintings to find a way to end the conflict.

In Part Two of The Newirth Mythology, Leaves of Fire, Koep entwines these lives and lifetimes as he explores myth, memory, revenge and the hope of forgiveness.

Books! Books! Books! 4 stars, writes: A spiral into madness, The Newirth Mythology by Michael B. Koep is a ride into madness, a war between Big Brother and the Other Brothers! What do you do when you have to go up against your mentor- a fellow colleague, in a battle of wits? How do you also stay ahead of the police detectives and others who could dome than harm- even in death! These two books take you on a journey far beyond the reaches of mere mortal minds...
This book completes the triangle. In book one we were introduced to the Painter and the Poet. This book is about the Healer. This book brought warring Gods, confusing children and Led Zeppelin. The story is about unhappy Gods (the Oration Wis) who envy humans. Following Albion Ravistelle, they illegally break through a portal into our world, looking to create their own version of heaven on earth.

This book was MUCH more exciting than the first. This one didn't carry you into insanity before hitting the good stuff. I loved this book and found it full of the action that I'd hoped to find in book one. There's to be one more book- be looking for it. This author has a gift!

Lyn, 5 stars, writes: This book is really amazing. If you haven't read the first one, don't worry - this one has a great little summary of it, that just made me love it even more. Koep is not messing around with his writing; the level of creativity in these two novels is, out of everything I've ever read, second only to Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I can't even think of anything to say that would accurately express how good it is.

I'd recommend this book to everyone, because I personally love it. I'm very much looking forward to the third book coming out, and I hope to get a signed copy, to complete my collection of the series. It's definitely worth keeping and revisiting.

Note: I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.

Barb, 4 stars, writes: I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and thus started with the second novel in the trilogy. Even so, I had no problem getting into the story and following the plot. A novel of gods warring for control of the Earth and humankind, this is a big concept book. It moves back and forth in time, from Medieval England to modern day Idaho and Venice.

It took me a bit to understand the difference between the Orathon Wis and the Itonalya. While the first strive to uphold their original purpose and keep the doorways between Heaven and Earth closed, Albion Ravistelle and his band of rebels wish to open the portals, allowing the jealous gods to ravish the planet and people at will. The struggle between the two is epic. Ravistelle will stop at nothing less than the extinction of his former brethren to gain control of Heaven and Earth.

Mr. Koep's style is classical mixed with magical realism. Our grasp on reality is stretched to the breaking point as a poet and scholar writes a journal that changes the course of history as well the destiny of himself and those he loves. I found myself swept along with the flow of the author's smooth prose.

This is a story like nothing I've read before. I will be certain to pick up the first and last installments of the saga.

I really like this book. I wasn't sure if I would or not as it is kind of a time travel deal but it was so interesting that I found myself getting drawn into it and really enjoyed it. Mr. Koep does an excellent job of bringing the reader into the story and keeping them there.

4.5/5. I hope Mr. Koep donates his brain to science when the time arises because he definitely has something that a lot of us don't. The ability to effortlessly skate through time and characters and spin a tale of amazing thought processes. I reviewed the first book in this series and didn't know if I loved it or hated it but knew that I would pick this one up and continue the journey. I enjoyed this book more perhaps since I read "Invasion of Heaven. So many story lines and limited brain function to assimilate every thing going on. He challenges the reader and this read is amazing. I am glad I decided to continue. The character are more developed, the story mesmerizing and who wouldn't like to write their own life to reality!

Excellent continuation of the "stories within stories" started in The Invasion of Heaven. Mr. Koep has such a mastery of language and storytelling that he skillfully wraps characters together in a twisting and spiraling relationship without ever losing the reader. I think that Koep is one of the best writers on the planet today. Looking forward to the next installment. (Just my opinion.)
