Description

First the birds disappeared.
Then the insects took over.
Then the madness began . . .

They call it Wanderer's Folly--a disease of delusions, of daydreams and nightmares. A plague threatening to wipe out the human race.

After two years of creeping decay, David Arlen woke up one morning thinking that the worst was over. By midnight, he's bleeding and terrified, his wife is dead, and he's on the run in a stolen car with his eight-year-old daughter, who may be the key to a cure.

Ellie is a special girl. Deep. Insightful. And she knows David is lying to her. Lying about her mother. Lying about what they're running from. And lying about what he sees when he takes his eyes off the road . . .

First the birds disappeared.
Then the insects took over.
Then the madness began . . .

Advance Praise

“David Arlen watches a present-day America falls prey to Wanderer’s Folly, a disease that addles the mind shortly before a gruesome death…Creepy.” - Publishers Weekly

“The destruction or ending of the world as we know it is a common backdrop for examining the elements of humanity…Terrifying and fascinating. Malfi adds an interesting new angle to the mix by placing the story in a world infected by the Wanderer’s Folly, a disease that blurs the lines between dreams and reality…Interesting, moving, and effective.”– Booklist

Ronald Malfi broke my heart…

You’ll likely pick up The Night Parade for one of two reasons – you love Ronald Malfi already or you’re intrigued by the pandemic in this one.

If it’s the pandemic, you’ll find that it’s a good one. Malfi’s apocalyptic scenario is scary, violent, and heartbreaking. There’s a dangerous disease and far more dangerous people.

But it’s so much more than that. The Night Parade is about sacrifice and family –how far would you go to save the ones you love? The book begins to break your heart from chapter one and simply doesn’t let go.

Suggestion: have your box of Kleenex ready. By the time the book is over, you’re going to need it.

An excellent read and so much more than standard pandemic fare.

Amazingly beautiful story. It kept me on the edge of my seat and broke my heart at the same time.

Malfi’s latest is a blockbuster. They call it Wanderer’s Folly,a virus that causes delusions so terrible that many commit suicide simply to escape. Those who live long enough bleed out. There is no known cure and millions have died across the globe. Two years into the plague, David Arlen and his 9 year old daughter Ellie are on the run from the government. Ellie and her mother Kathy have an immunity to the disease that the CDC wants to exploit, as a result, Kathy is dead. Now David and Ellie are looking for David’s half brother, Tim, a man known to live “off the grid”. There journey is fraught with peril; while there is still electricity and even spotty internet coverage, people have reverted to primitive, violent behavior. And Ellie’s immunity is not the only thing unique about her; she has the ability to calm, soothe, or even kill with the touch of her hand, and her power is growing stronger with every passing day. I don’t know why Malfi is not a household name, every story he writes is different than the one before. His December Park is one of my favorite books of all time. My only questions now is, will there be a sequel to The Night Parade, and when will it be out?
