Medieval romances are my absolute favorites and I am so happy that more authors are writing them again. "Of Love and Betrayal", by Louise Lyndon is a very enjoyable medieval romance set in the early 1100's. Aveline was given to a monster and his equally monstrous son to pay for her step-father's debts. Aveline married a man quickly to try and avoid being taken, but she was taken anyway and held for six months. She murdered the father and escaped after lashings and near rape. Troy found her on the road and thought that she was dead, but when he realized she wasn't, he took her to a local inn to find someone to take care of her.
Troy is returning home after betraying his brother and being banished by his father. His mother sends him a note that his father is dying and he is trying to get back to see his father after being gone for five years. He doesn't know what to do with Aveline, he wants to help, but knows he should try to get home, but he also doesn't want to go home and face his father.
Troy's family still isn't too happy to see him, except his mother, and he learns that not only is his father not dying, but he is still not welcome. Troy is determined to protect Aveline, even though he doesn't feel like he is a man worthy to be her husband. Aveline is torn, she was married, but her husband didn't save her and their marriage wasn't consummated. It seems that the only way to protect herself is to marry Troy.
Can Troy protect Aveline and tell her his deep, dark secret that is so awful he got banished from his home? Can they beat their enemy?
There is passion and a growing love between Troy and Aveline, the romance in this book is written very well. The love scenes are on the sweeter, milder side and I like to read books with a little more steam. It seems that the author left a little something out, the backstory about Troy is missing. We get hints, but I wanted a little more meat. Very good read, love the medieval setting and would recommend to others!

This is my first book by Lousie Lyndon which I was very much impressed

A riveting fast paced adventure that Scottish romance readers will love full of adventure, intrigue, conflict, betrayal, faith and love.

Good character development, exceptional dialogue, beautiful settings and wonderful plotting that keeps the reader wondering what the end result will be.
