This is the second in the series of the Ruby Wishfingers books, but it is not only not necessary to read the first book, but I would recommend skipping the first one, as this was much more fun. The action is quick. The logic of the magic is fun, and the emotions are real, as Ruby's cousin ruins everything she had planned for her little brother's birthday party, and she gets mad, and breaks the first rule of magic.

Highly recommend this story to early readers, and even as books to read to your kids. A lot of fun.

Plus, there is another book in the series coming soon, as someone else in the family gains magic fingers.
