Description

Spoiled, rich party girl Taffy Belair is in trouble. Again. This time her grandmother is banishing her to a small coastal town in Oregon to clean up her act.

Cut off from familiar luxuries and expected to work and take care of a house and herself, Taffy could care less about fitting into the quirky town of Abandon.

Without her posse of girls or even good coffee, let alone a party scene, she starts stirring up new trouble. Hunky handyman Ethan is a good start. But when she stumbles over a possible murder, Taffy transforms from party girl to amateur detective.

Now she’s getting into more trouble than she ever did back in New York. She’s unearthing secrets and upsetting the locals. Is this quaint seaside enclave really the “Sweetest Town on the Coast,” or is it rotten to the core?

With the help of new friends, Taffy must risk her life to expose a conspiracy and capture a killer before the town’s body count increases by a factor of one stylish blonde (in need of a manicure).

Fans of Stephanie Plum and humorous cozy murder mysteries will love this hilarious and heartfelt fish-out-of-water mystery starring somewhat-reformed party girl Taffy Belair.

The beginning of the book was a bit slow and I felt like the story would not interest me. I was very wrong. Once Taffy went to Oregon, the story moved at a steady pace and the mystery kept me guessing until the very end.
I enjoyed all the twists and turns and I would definitely read more in the series.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Poor little rich girl, Taffy Belair, has pushed her Nana too far this time. Nana manages to send Taffy from New York City to the small backwater town of Abandon, Oregon. When she arrives, Taffy's only thought is to get back to the high life in New York. When she realizes she is really stuck for three months and has a job lined up, she decides to try to bear the indignity. Then the story starts to heat up.
Taffy decides an accidental death could not have happened as officially stated. Suddenly, in this "safe sweet" small town, she has a puzzle that for some reason, she just needs to solve.
The characters are believable although slightly stereotypical. The story was easy to dive into and enjoy. The author, Dana Moss, certainly manages to keep the reader intrigued with teasing clues and a little misdirection. it is a delightfully fun mystery. I look forward to the next Taffy Belair mystery.

Sweet Taffy and Murder is the first book in the Sweet Taffy Cozy Mysteries series written by Dana Moss. The author combined an interesting mystery with lots of twists and turns, relatable characters, and humor. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more books in this series.

Taffy Belair, a spoiled rich girl from New York, and is quite shocked when her grandmother, Nana, decides it’s time to practice Tough Love. She takes away her car, apartment, most of her clothes, cancels her credit cards, and gives her a one-way ticket to the small coastal town of Abandon, Oregon. When she arrives at the dilapidated house she’s supposed to live in, she discovers that a woman, Janet Harkin, died in the house. Taffy becomes friends with Ethan (a local park ranger and neighbor), Maria (a police officer), and Ellie (a co-worker at the candy factory). The police ruled the death accidental but Taffy doesn’t agree and starts looking into matters on her own even though Lieutenant Maria Salinas says she doesn’t want her help. Taffy ends up in danger and Nana wants her to return to New York but Taffy is determined to see things through to the end.

Many thanks to NetGalley and RedAdept for the chance to read this book in exchange of a honest review.
From the very first line of this book I was drawn in. Taffy is the spoilt little rich girl and the daughter of a former rock star and deceased famous actress. Taffy has had one to many run ins with the police, Her grandmother is fed up with bailing her and her father out. So after summoning the two of them to her Manhattan penthouse apartment informs them that if they do not clean up their act she will cut them out (financially) she gives them till her 75th.

Review shared on Facebook, amazon and twitter
Taffy does not believe her and upon returning to her own home discovers that all her belongings are being removed. She has no choice but to follow her grandmothers instructions contained in the white envelope (the first one comes from her grandmother. The second from the guys removing her stuff from the apartment).
After following the instructions she ends up in a town called Abandon in Oregon with just $500.00 to her name.
Her grandmother has sorted out a car and a house (neither of which are to Taffy's usual standard). In order to 'live' Taffy would need a job but that’s ok and Nana has sorted that out too.
Upon arriving in her 'new' home, Taffy is alarmed that there has been a recent murder and sets her mind in uncovering what happened. Along the way she meets new friends and discovers there is more to life then what whe is used to and actually finds what she really wants in life.
I love a book with small chapters, as when I am really enjoying a book I find it hard to put down. I enjoy reading during the day, but I love reading in bed at night (must be from my younger days when mum and dad would read a bedtime story). Small chapters make it easier to put down with my eyes just won't stay open any longer.
I read a lot of books of this genre and even I was surprised by who the killer is (normally I would suss it out by midway).
I am really looking forward to more adventures from Taffy.

Sweet start to a new series

I enjoyed this book. Along with the requisite murder, love interest, food, and cat or dog, this story by Dana Moss has an unlikely hero, a spoiled brat. But there is more to the brat’s story that gradually unfolds throughout the book. It will be interesting to see how this character develops through the series. This book is among the best cozy mysteries I have read and I recommend it for all readers who enjoy this genre.

Enjoyable and fun, can't wait for the next installment!
Great cozy mystery, full of suspense and funny situations. Taffy is sent to a small town as a way to force her to clean up her act, she is young and with lots of money and live life without a care, being reckless and ending up at the police station ever so often. Her Nana is set on tough love and cuts her off her money for three months and sets her up in a house and a job at a Candy factory. What is there to do when you find yourself in a house where an unlikely accident kills the previous owner, and all seems to point to murder; Even the yellow tape from the police is still there when Taffy arrives.

This is a humorous new cozy series that has a rich socialite banished to small town Oregon after another arrest for drunk and disorderly. When Grandmother speaks you listen. The murder mystery is a good one and the supporting cast of town folk are interesting and full of unexpected surprises. This appears to be Dana Moss's first book and she did a great job creating a good story to begin this new series. I liked her writing style and look forward to her next book.

A fun and easy book to read. I really liked Taffy, and her mindset made me laugh. Although she is a spoiled and pampered rich girl, who is forced by her grandmother to live in a old house where, gasp!, a dead body had been found, she still made me chuckle. To go from the extremes of a rich and playful life in New York to the small town Oregon, with a bunch of eccentric characters, is quite a change. Her adventure, and seeking of what happened to the previous house owner leads the reader on an interesting journey. Highly recommend this book.

Taffy was getting in trouble again, when her Nana decided to whip her into shape and teach her a lesson. Having been rich all her life and wanting for nothing, Taffy found herself in the middle of no where living in a house that some was in her opinion, murdered in. Everyone is a suspect, from the familiar police woman, to the repair man and even the hunky Ethan that had been there to greet her when she came into town. The town holds many secrets, but Taffy wasn’t sure how close to home those secrets were.

I really enjoyed this book, I couldn’t put it down. It’s a fun ready with a lot of great characters. All the time I was reading it, I was so glad to know this is a series, I want to read more about Taffy and her family and friends. I highly recommend. A great read!
I received this book from Netgalley, opinions are my own.

Tough and chewy yet sweet and rather moreish, I liked both versions of Taffy. I enjoyed reading about her when she was a spoilt selfish brat just as much as I enjoyed her transformation. I especially liked the leaking tap issue and her total lack of knowledge about stop cocks (reminded me of my own offspring!) Her lack of curiosity and total acceptance of the way things were for her when she was rich was really funny, and slightly annoying at the same time.

The plot had me guessing almost to the very end, and I enjoyed the way the author sent readers down several false paths before the killer was finally revealed.

I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Great characters in quirky settings get me every time. I love the idea of a character being in a setting that is the complete opposite of what they are used to. Some LOL moments with romance and a good dose of murder. Very enjoyable!
