Overall this wasn't a bad book; the only thing preventing me from giving it 4 stars was the end. I felt completely let down at the end of the book. I wanted more of a confrontation between Max and Hallie. I wanted more of a discussion about the relationship Hallie had with Ryan's brother (I didn't feel like they ever really had a heart to heart about it).

This was an action packed thriller from the opening scene in the bar to the ending of the book, which delivered a surprise or two.

Hallie is a tough, streetwise woman, who is willing to go to the ends of the earth for a friend, who has done her a favor in the past. She becomes embroiled in a drug plot initiated by her friend without really knowing the details or understanding why she is involved. When he fails to meet her at the appointed rendezvous point and sends his brother, Ryan, a former DEA agent instead, Hallie becomes even more confused and both attracted to and repulsed by Ryan.

Given the premise of a brother rescuing a girl for his brother, I was not sure how romantic the relationship would seem, but C.B. Clark does an excellent job of conveying both Ryan and Hallie's thoughts about one another and about Geordie, Ryan's brother. As they move on the run through Mexico and the Northwest, it is clear that there is a connection between Ryan and Hallie, which makes the romance compelling. Additionally, there several complications beyond Geordie and being on the run that confirm that Hallie and Ryan are meant for one another.

In addition to a solid romance, the suspense and action is constant with both Hallie and Ryan in danger frequently. Hallie has opportunities where she demonstrates that she is more than just a pretty face as she uses both her mind and her physical skills to become her own heroine.

This was a great romantic suspense with attention to details - especially at the end! I wish that it had explored a bit more of the ending with Hallie and Ryan.
