I struggled with the words to describe how I feel about this book until I heard this phrase on TV one day: "I didn't know monsters exist until..."

This is the true story of a horrific crime that was committed by a monster. Perhaps "monster" could even be too mild for this psychopath who raped and murdered his own relatives. Murder in the family chronicles the events and the trial that ensued. It is well written though extremely hard to read at certain points where the details were presented.

Though the murderer was sentenced to several lifetimes in prison, you might be forgiven for thinking it was too light a sentence for him, and therefore feel more than a twinge of dissatisfaction at the ending.

This new edition includes some updates, including comments by a relative of the victims and also incidents involving the perpetrator in gaol. There is also discussion at the end about how these crimes can be prevented in the future.

Thank you Netgalley and WildBlue Press for the review copy. My apologies for writing a review only now.

I need to start by saying that I don't wish this review to discourage anyone from reading this book. I enjoy true crime but I feel this one wasn't for me. I did finish this book completely but really struggled and it took me a very long time. The subject matter is clearly disturbing but in reality what true crime book isn't. I feel this was all about the trial and didn't dig enough into getting to know the family that was murdered therefore I never got the connection I felt I needed to truly understand and feel the connection needed in this type of read. You get to see Mr. Anthony's side and how crazy and uncaring he is throughout the entire trial but as a murderer you know he has issues. If you like books that just delve into the trial and little more than you may rate this higher. Out of fairness to the author (which I will definitely read more from) I went with 3 stars as he just went with what he had to work with.
