I really liked this story. I found the hero delish and the heroine was delightful. The plot kept me captivated and I found the dialogue entertaining.

A really good book. It keeps you wanting to turn the pages. I really liked Preston"s character a lot. I just wish his walls were up a little longer. I felt they fell too easily. Emma was a good heroine counterpart to Preston. I liked that she was strong but was still affected.

This was a mix of drama. Romance, mystery and suspense make up this story. Preston and Emma met in college. They were in a band together and just when they were about to share more than the band, Preston disappears. Unknown to Emma and their friends, Preston had a lot of secrets. Fast forward 8 years and Emma and Preston are thrown together again. Emma finds out what Preston has been working for the FBI as an assassin. He deals vigilante justice to those who escape the law. He is on the edge of losing all his humanity. He is obsessed with finding the person responsible for the murder of his mother and sister. Emma seems to soothe his wildness and keeps him settled. The story is pretty fast paced with a protective alpha male and plenty of sexy scenes.

Preston is skilled assassin looking for his mother and sister’s killer. Only mission in his life was to find the killer who wrecked his life and his father’s
He did not want to become assassin until something snapped in him during college and recruited by his father. He joined secret FBI group that targets criminals and they are called Circle of Justice. Ever since he has been working day and night to track down criminals who escaped the justice system mainly in rapes and child molesters. He getting out of control lately and Glen, his father’s closest friend and leader, was worried and had to bring him back down to his home town where there was similar murder to his sister.
All Preston wanted to do was put his past life behind but when he is faced with Emma, it triggered all the memories from past. Things were changing fast for both.
Emma is Glen’s personal assistant and use to be in band with Preston in college. She couldn’t believe she faced Preston after 8 years. She has been searching for him but he vanished without a trace. Finally seeing him brought back memories, but Preston ignored Emma and pretended he didn’t know her. Emma decided to play along and ignore him but that was harder than she thought.
Glen was trying to reel him back but he won’t just listen and work with Emma. Glen decided to give Emma to work on new project with Preston but Preston is still going out and doing what he does best. So decided to trick Preston by kidnapping Emma to see his reaction.
Soon as Preston finds out Emma was gone, he goes ballistic and doing everything to save Emma. He feels he failed again and he is willing to do anything to save her. Now they are back again and they have to find their way back to each other.
Emma and Preston had feelings for each other but they never got a chance to reveal their feelings. Now they are willing to work together and finally reveal how they feel for each other. Once they knew how they felt for each other everything was moving forward.
But Preston finds out his sister Cameron’s room was disturbed by someone, he is trying everything to find the person who ransacked the room. Now Preston needs to work closely with Emma to find the killer.
Will they finally close their past and move on...
So far all of L.P. Dover’s books has been great with suspense and romance. I couldn’t finish fast enough. I loved story of Emma and Preston. I can’t wait to read about all the other Chandler’s sons. Great read, I would recommend to any one who loves second chance & suspense and whole lot of love!!!

I really wanted to love this story. I had read so many amazing reviews leading up to its release that I wanted it to be more than just okay. About halfway through, I was ready to put the book down. But I kept reading, hoping that my opinion would change. And it did, if only slightly. I'm glad I didn't give up on it.
There was suspense, mystery, and romance (of course). It was thrilling and light, not too dark for the subject matters included. I mean, assassins tend to be murderous and almost too dark.
I loved the dialogue in this book, too. There were a lot of scenes that I highlighted and went back to later because they were so swoon worthy. Cheesy, but swoon worthy.

4 Fast Paced Stars
Preston Hale is a gorgeous, tall, dark haired and grey-eyed killer. He is a trained assassin who wants to right the wrongs his government can't do. Preston is in love with Emma, However something happens and he is taken away from her during their college years. Emma has never forgotten Preston and has no idea where he went 8 years years ago. He is always at the back of her mind though. No one has matched up to him.
Circumstances bring them back together though and the heat that was once between them is still as hot as ever.
Trigger was an enjoyable read that fast paced and exciting.

I read this book and sadly don't remember a thing about it

It's been a long time since Emma Turner set her sights on one Preston Hale, but she would never forget the man she loved in college. The man she sang with. The man who up and vanished one night and never came back. For years, she searched for him, wondering if he was dead or alive. Only to have him walk in to her boss' dinning room, join them for dinner and pretend he didn’t know who she was. Preston was a killer. Ridding the world of pedophiles and rapists was his mission. One he took pleasure in. He was not the kind of man Emma needed in her life. Although he didn’t expect to see her again, the meeting left him unsettled and shaken. She had been the one woman he desired like no other. The one woman he never had. And with her around, for the first time the need to claim was stronger than his need to kill. Trigger is an intense suspense romance with a killer as the good guy, a strong woman as his match, a family who needs to make up and find closure and a murderer and rapist who is about to meet his maker. A thrilling, sexy and intense read for sure.

L.P. Dover is a new-to-me author and I was not prepared to enjoy this one so much! Well written, this romantic suspense story took me on an emotional journey that I did not expect when I first started it.
Preston Hale and Emma Turner have a past history together. Eight years ago, they used to be friends and bandmates when they were in college until the day Preston left town and disappeared from Emma’s life without a single word or explanation.
So many years ago, Preston left after a tragic event happened in his life and he’s now a well trained killer working for a secret FBI group that targets criminals who escaped the justice system. They’re called the Circle of Justice. Preston had spent years obsessing over his mother and sister’s murders. The guilt had plagued him every day of his life. Stuck in the past, Preston has pushed everyone away over the past height years, thriving only to clean up the trash, embracing his dark side and with the constant determination in mind to find the murderer of his family. Fortunately, this time Preston is not alone in his battle...
When outside circumstances lead Emma and Preston to meet again and to work together, Emma soon realizes how much Preston has changed. He’s nothing like the young man she has known and used to love. He is now ruthless and callous, a cold hearted man blinded only by his anger and his desire for revenge. Yet Emma is still drawn to him, more than she was before. Soon, repressed old feelings resurface and both Preston and Emma can no longer resist the pull of their sizzling connection. When Emma discovers all Preston’s demons and secrets, she’s determined to help him get his life back on track and to find the murderer who ruined his life all those years ago, even going so far as to put her own life on the line.
Trigger is a fast-paced and well crafted romantic suspense. The dialogue is seductive and flows effortlessly. I enjoyed the storyline and how it all turns out. At first, I had a hard time to connect with Preston character and his stupid behavior towards Emma, but as the story progressed I found him difficult to resist. There was also very steamy sex scenes between the leads and some twists and turns to keep it interesting until the very end. Overall, I liked this story of second chance in life, of redemption, forgiveness, of trust regained and of love lost and found again.

Never read anything by this author but they are definitely on my read list. The book started out great and Trigger is a good name for the character. Just enough romance in the book without being too much. The mystery of the book had you guessing.

This was a unique and interesting story with action, suspense and lots of steam. Preston is kind of a shades of gray character - deep down he's a good guy that's been through a lot but he's a killer. Emma wanted Preston and was devastated when he walked away without even a goodbye 8 years ago. I liked this book - it wasn't predictable and it was fast paced. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.

I was excited to read Trigger because Ms. Dover wrote it and when I read the synopsis, I only got more excited! Trigger was a little darker than her other books, but I love a little darkness in my reads, so that didn't bother me at all. In fact, I loved that about it, but who am I kidding - I loved the whole story!
Preston might be a rough and tough bada*s, but Emma's no slouch herself - she's quite a force to be reckoned with. She doesn't take any crap from him and she's not afraid to go head to head with him and keep him in line. She's strong and she's sassy, but she's also sweet, patient, and understanding too. Emma is the bomb and I absolutely loved her!
Preston can be a turkey sometimes, but I love him anyway. He's got the whole dark, broody, and angry but anguished thing down. Preston is haunted by the past and taking justice for other people who have been wronged - it is the only way he knows how to live now. He's fierce and dark and even though he doesn't want to be affected by Emma, he can't help what she does to him. Preston might fight it at first, but once he's in, he's all in - he's protective and you can tell you how much he cares about Emma and loves her. He's truly a great hero and I loved him!
Trigger was a fast read to begin with, but there were times when I couldn't pull myself away and I flipped the pages as soon as I could and it just made me read even faster. It was full of heart pounding, suspenseful, steamy moments, it was heartbreaking and made my eyes sting with tears, but it gave me quite a few laughs too. It was an excellent, excellent read and oh my gosh, I cannot wait to read Wade's story next!
Trigger is the first book in the Circle of Justice series, it's told from Preston and Emma's POV, and they have an awesome happily-ever-after ending!
~ A Hopeless Romantic's Booklandia, 4.5 Stars

I loved the beginning of this book. Preston was a total jerkface to Emma......even having the balls to act as if he couldn't remember her from their earlier years and being in a band together.....I mean really, how could you lie about that, but he did! And yes, I loved his stiff uncaring attitude towards her even if it was all an act! My biggest complaint, he caved too soon......I wanted to him to continue to treat her like a stranger....is that bad of me?? But, Preston did not have an easy life. He disappeared from Emma's life for eight years with his only focus on vengeance.
Anyway, this is a good start to a series which I will continue. There was a definite connection between Emma and Preston, and the craziness that was Preston's life kept me flipping pages.

: TRIGGER is the first installment in L.P. Dover’s contemporary, adult CIRCLE OF JUSTICE romantic, suspense series. This is assassin for hire Preston Hale, and twenty seven year old PA Emma Turner’s second chance story line.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Preston and Emma) TRIGGER focuses on betrayal, revenge, second chances and happily ever afters. Preston Hale is an assassin for hire; a professional hitman above the law who answers to a secret government agency known as the Circle of Justice, well aware of Preston’s need for revenge. Years earlier, our hero lost everything and every one he had ever cared about; an unsolved murder that killed his mother and younger sister Cameron, leaving behind a heartbroken Preston and a father who never fully recovered. Meeting Emma Turner found Preston over protective and vigilant as it pertained to the woman that called to his heart but a woman he left behind when retribution became a part of his future and his blood. Fast forward eight years wherein Preston will come face to face with his past, and the cycle of murder and death begins anew. Enter Emma Turner, the woman Preston has never forgotten, and the woman who will become the target of a psychotic mind. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Preston and Emma; a copy cat killing with similarities to Cameron’s murder; and the couple’s search for the person responsible for the murder of Preston’s sister and mom.
Preston Hale is a killing machine. He is a man who takes down the lowest of the low-the rapists, pedophiles and child molester, and a man who kills without a conscience or shame. Emma Turner is the PA for a wealthy businessman whose interests extend beyond contracts and deals. But when Emma’s latest assignment brings her up close and personal with Preston Hale, our heroine will lose her heart to the man she has always loved. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative.
We are introduced to Emma’s boss, and Preston’s handler Glenn Chandler of Chandler Enterprises, as well as his sons : eldest Wade, and twins Ian and Bryce; the housekeeper Mrs. Walker; and musician John Tallman. Emma’s best friends Cliff and Andrea play secondary roles but have a close connection to Preston Hale. The requisite evil is a familiar face from the past.
The world building focuses on betrayal and retribution; on a rekindling love between two people torn apart by grief and an overwhelming need to avenge and protect. The guilt party is easily deduced once introduced into the story line premise.
TRIGGER is an emotional story line; a heartbreaking look at the devastating aftermath when a double homicide destroys a once, tight knit loving family. The premise is suspenseful and riveting; the characters are passionate and charismatic; the romance is a second chance at a happily ever after. L.P. Dover’s TRIGGER is a dramatic story line of family, loss, retribution and revenge.

This is a great book; this is the first book in the Circle of Justice series written by L.P. Dover. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author.

A killer . . . that’s what I am.
It’s what I do.
It’s what I live for.
I’m no longer the Preston Hale everyone knew. I left that life and the people in it a long time ago the second I made my first kill. I wasn’t going to give in, but when I heard the screams there was no going back.
It triggered the pain, the need.
I knew what I had to do, and I did it well. But I never expected for Emma Turner – the only link to my past – to come back into my life.
She triggers a different emotion inside me, something I hadn’t ever felt.
It’s not a want to kill . . . but a need to CLAIM.
I love Preston ***swoon and sigh***!! Even if he is a killer. He totally can kill for me, no seriously he can!! He can be my best friend and hang out in my house...cough bedroom. I love LP Dover and her writing style and when she says she's writing suspense - do you honestly think I'm not going to read it? Heck no, I'm going to beg, plead and bargain to get a copy. Her characters are always multi-dimensional and fully fleshed out. She always thinks about a plot and doesn't throw her books together. You can tell that she believes in quality over quantity. I really love it that she does that. This was an exceptional read. I loved Emily and the fact that best friend stories just rock for me. You can take a good friendship story and work that all the way to the bank. I felt that I could have kept reading this and found myself putting other books on the backshelf while I devoted my time to this one. She is up there with Kristen Ashley, Lani Lynn Vale and Lori Foster for me. That is a tough group to be in but she does it and does it well. I'm not really going to give anything away because I think it's kind of like a Colleen Hoover novel - you need to go into it with a clear mind and no preconceived notions of what it is or isn't. Some books I love to gush about the plot, what it's about and share, share, share. Some books I think readers need to read on their own with no ideas or opinions forced upon them by others and this is one of those books. So.....
Please pick up this book for yourself and read it. You won't be disappointed and if you are, I'd seriously check to see if you have a pulse!!
I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on Netgalley for a honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.

4.5* read.
This isn't the first book I've read by this author but it is defiantly my favourite so far. It was full of suspense, drama, romance, angst, and so many twists and turns that I was gripped. So much emotion crammed into one book that I defiantly went on a emotional journey.
Preston is a dark and cold character that I actually really warmed to, especially when Emma came back into his life. Seeing these two together and going on their journey was both heartbreaking and thrilling and completely addictive in all the right ways.
I look forward to more from this author.

I have read several of the author's second chance books, so was very excited to be able to read an ARC from netgalley.com. This book is nothing like the others. When Preston Hale was just a teen, both his mother and sister were murdered while he and his father were on a fishing trip. The murderer was never found and both father and son feel guilty that they weren't there. Preston grows up, goes to college and is a member of a band. He meets Emma Turner and brings her into the band as their female singer and then one day disappears. Emma never forgot him or stopped looking for him. Unknown to her, his father was part of a secret government organization that assassinates those who elude justice. The night Preston disappears, he was brought into that organization. He is only driven by angry, preventing other women from being victimized and has become a killing machine. When he meets Emma again, he tries to keep his distance, but can't. He needs Emma more than he can comprehend. This is a very intense romantic-thriller. Totally different from the Second Chance books, but just as good a read.

OMG This book was just wow! I had a really hard time putting it down. The character build and the concept were stellar and I think this is now my favorite book by this author! I honestly did not want it to end at all!

This is a romantic suspense read. I absolutely loved this story from beginning to the end. This book is full of suspense, romance and lots of emotions. The characters are fantastic and you will fall in love with them from the first page. This author has a fab way of bringing you into the story and keeping you hooked till the last page. I cant wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended
