Description

*~* Standalone Novel *~*

A killer . . . that’s what I am.

It’s what I do.

It’s what I live for.

I’m no longer the Preston Hale everyone knew. I left that life and the people in it a long time ago the second I made my first kill. I wasn’t going to give in, but when I heard the screams there was no going back.

It triggered the pain, the need.

I knew what I had to do, and I did it well. But I never expected for Emma Turner – the only link to my past – to come back into my life.

She triggers a different emotion inside me, something I hadn’t ever felt.

It’s not a want to kill . . . but a need to CLAIM.

My first LP Dover read and I'm sure not my last (I look forward to the next book in the series). Written in dual POV, a lovely second chance romance with drama, love and passion. Preston is in love with Emma, but he has needs and to meet those needs he is taken away from her during their college years. Emma has never forgotten Preston, but she has no idea where he went 8 years years ago, he just upped and disappeared. 8 years later they meet unexpectedly and Preston is ignoring her, pretending he doesn't even remember her. But, circumstances are pushing them together and they can't run away from their feelings. Preston has got to come to terms with his past and let Emma into his current life to enable them to have a future. There's a killer on the loose and time is of the essence, Preston is determined to solve the crimes whilst protecting Emma. Fast paced and exciting. An enjoyable read that had me unable to put the book down.

4.5 Stars

Great start to a new series by LP Dover! This author always brings the suspense, and TRIGGER was no different. Great premise. The reader gets sucked into the story from the start. Unraveling the layers that are Preston Hale is perhaps the best quality of the story.

Preston and Emma have a past so it's a bit of a second chance romance as well. Although they never got together in college, they were very good friends and could have been more.

The whole organization is intriguing. I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of Glenn's boys get to an HEA. I love to see the tough guys fall!

The side story with the bands and the music felt out of place for me. I understand it was a way for Emma and Preston to connect but it seemed out of sinc with the rest of the story. Otherwise, fantastic tale spinning!

Wow I was pleasantly surprised by this novel from L.P. Dover. Since her MMA series, I feel like we have been getting books from her with less suspense, which is totally fine, but this book had more mystery and I really like it. I went into this book totally blind so I had no clue what it was about. Preston and Emma are a great main character couple in this book. I like how they kinda had their second chance at being together after the prologue. I feel that other than Glenn, there wasn't too much focus on any secondary characters which I also thought was cool because Preston and Emma were enough to hold down the whole novel.

I also enjoyed the murder mystery suspense. I was trying to figure out who did it the whole time I was reading. The only thing I thought was a little weird was the fact that there was a list of people that Preston and Glenn's group terminated with no questions asked and that operatives such as themselves could go take someone out whenever the mood struck. I feel like that could have been explained a little more or maybe it is just part of fiction and we take it as it's presented. Either way, the story was still really great!

What a fantastic read! I'm away! This was such a brilliant plot story. I loved every minute of it! I was captivated from the very first paragraph. It's been a long time since I've a read a book that kept me guessing from the first chapter. Full of mystery, a second chance at love, and great side characters. 5+ stars for this extraordinary read! I can't wait for the rest of the series!

Amazing! Absolutely loved this story! Such a brilliant idea with Preston- I even Googled to see if such a thing existed, and if anyone cares I fully support.

So many things I found intriguing in this story. There were so many layers and dynamics. Loved Glenn and his protectiveness with not only Emma, but with Preston as well. Preston seems scary, deadly, but you will love him. Emma was supportive, smart, loving, and caring.

Highly recommended this read and excitedly awaiting the next in this series.

Fantastic! Suspense, mystery and a great romance made this one a very enjoyable read. Preston Hale's life changed completely the day his Mother and Sister were killed. Now a trained assassin he's looking for one thing - Revenge! Fearing he's going off the rails others in his "group" pull in the one person who could get through to him. Emma Turner has always had a piece of his heart but he walked away from her. Now she's back in his life and nothing will ever be the same.

This one has a fresh and unique storyline and I can't wait for more in this new series. I highly recommend this one.

***4 "Circle of Justice!!!" stars***

This was my first book by Mrs. Dover, but it won't be the last... I have already my eyes upon her "Second Chances" series....
And yep, this book was also about a second chance, but at the same time, it was something more...
It was about justice, about craving the wrong thing, about finding love and losing it, about a man who left everything behind because of the demons that were hunting him deep down inside and about a woman who never forgot...
As you can understand, this story was a wonderful and interesting reading....

Preston Hale's life changed overnight and from that moment, something snapped inside of him... He tried to continue his life but unfortunately the thirst for blood was bigger than everything else, so he took a different path from what he supposed to had taken...
Now, he is killing by choice and he is fuckin' enjoying it!!! But lately, the things are worse than ever... He is starting to lose himself and the thirst for justice never 've been more intense... especially, now that the killer has returned for once again....

Emma Turner has landed her dreamy job and she is enjoying travelling with her boss, but everything perplexed when Preston Hale is back in her life and her boss is forcing her to work with him, who is claiming that he doesn't remember her...
Emma never forgot Preston and she never stop wondering why he vanished just like that from college and her life...
And now, he is back and he doesn't remind anything from the man that he used to be... and not even that but she is hating him, but she can't erase the burning desire inside of her...

"It was as if everything fired to life. I remembered what it was like to be near him, to see his smiling face when we'd talked about music. The old Preston was still there; I could feel him in the way he touched me."

What will happen with those two when there is a killer out there???
Will they have a future together when Preston has keeping so many secrets inside of him???
How will Emma react when she find out that Preston is Trigger???
Can Emma help him to find himself for once again???
And will they be able to discover the killer???

I liked very much Emma and Preston... They were perfect for each other!!!
I liked when they were bickering or when they were kinder to each other...
But mostly i liked them when they started to open up to each other...

"You don't know the kind of shit I've seen. I've seen horors that no one would ever think possible. And you are the only thing in my life that gives me hope."

Preston was moody, wild and so damn angry all the time, but he had his rights to be like that!!!
He was fighting for something great, even though that he was enjoying the punishment that he was giving way too much!!!
He had this fire inside of him that didn't let him be relaxed and merry...
Emma was the only one who could wreck down his walls and he was craving her more than anything else...
But his heart was seeking a closure!!!

"I couldn't help but admire her innocence. I didn't want it taken away from her. She saw the good in the world, whereas all I saw was the bad. She was the perfect balance to me."

Emma was sweet and loving... She was so far away from Preston's world, but she was the only one who can really help him in many ways...
When he left without a word before all these years, he really hurt her and she still haven't get over it... and now, that he is back, he is so difficult to be around him, but Emma did her best and she manage to go through him...
And she was so brave that she had to put up with all those things!!!!

"Did Preston's profession scare me? Hell yeah. But I also knew he'd never hurt me. All I had to do was make him remember what it was like to live and be loved. I couldn't give up."

As you can understand, i really enjoyed this story and I can't wait for the next one... Wade seems like an interesting character... and I want to know more about the "Circle of justice"...
In this point, i have to tell you that i liked very much Glenn and his sneaky plan... and i would love to see and the twins's stories in some point...

Preston is a man who is very protective of what's his, “good. Because I told him you were dating an MMA fighter who would eff him up if he tried to get in your pants.” Preston knows when his woman is trying to distract him, "...biting her lip. My ***k twitched, as the anger I harbored inside morphed into lust. I knew what she was doing. She knew I’d be livid about tonight. “What are you doing, angel?” I really loved this book, when it came to Emma the man he was all lovable.

*****4.5 Stars****
Preston is a trained assassin, but he not a bad man he working for the good guys. Eight years ago one night changed his path in life. Eight years ago Emma’s life changed when Preston disappeared out of nowhere with no trace and leaving no reason behind for her or his friends. Preston the craving to kill became too much one night finally giving into his father request to join him. Eight years later Preston work has him like a machine but he only wants to serve justice to the person or persons who murder his mother and sister. Emma is brought back into Preston life to reel him in; neither Preston nor Emma have a clue what’s going on yet. When Presto boss summons him to come home he is faced with the one person he thought he could leave behind. At Emma’s boss dinner party she faced with the one person Preston who she could never forget but what hurts her is when he acts like he has no idea who she is. I was sucked into this book and could not stop suspense, sex, violence and about that 2nd chance. So looking forward for Wade’s book next.

I was dying to read this based on just the synopsis, but as soon as I started reading I was completely hooked. I could not put it down. I had to know what happened next.
I loved the idea of this book and Preston(swoon). There were so many pieces of this book all layered together to create an amazing story that I almost didn't want it to end. Emma and Preston together were more than I could have hoped for and the ending was perfect. I cannot wait for Wade's book.

Wonderful, wonderful, just absofantastically awesome read! I loved this story so much! Wow! In this great story we have Preston and Emma. Preston, also called Trigger, disappeared many years ago one night after rescuing someone in need of help. This situation triggered the need that he had been hiding for so long. Emma, ends up working for a company called Chandler enterprises for GlennChandler as his personal assistant. Little does Preston know that their paths are going to cross again. Once they are introduced, Preston acts like he doesn't know her. Emma is hurt. How could he forget her? They used to be in a band for pete's sake. Pfft. Lol.
You see, Preston is carrying a huge weight on his shoulders. It is the main reason why he left 8 years ago. I felt every single emotion that Preston went through. I ached for him. I wanted him to get the justice he sorely sought. It became his life and his mission but he was losing himself. His boss and close family friend Glenn Chandler, was worried. Not to mention he could not face his Father after what happened. Glenn devises a plan to get Emma and Preston back together. At first Peston proves difficult, not wanting to drag Emma down his dark path but in the end she follows him one night, and finds out the truth. This story hit all the right buttons for me. Emma, once told the truth, turned out to be very understanding and wanted to help Preston find hmself again. I loved Emma so much. There were no TSTL moments with her, which I was glad for. She stepped up and did what she had to do to help her man find closure. Finding out that her man was a professional killer did not deter her one bit!!! Lol. In the end they are able to find out what happened to Preston's Mom and his sister Cameron. Even though they had to use Emma, which she totally volunteered for, at a girl! Lol. They are able to catch this sadistic, sick criminal. Giving him and his Dad the closure that they needed. This was very well written, suspenseful and full of action. The sex scenes between those two burned the pages up! Very detailed and scorchingly beautiful. I am glad that they owned up to their feelings quickly and understood what they meant to each other. Loved the way Preston doled out his justice, sometimes you got to do, what you got to do! Lol. Great read. 5 stars!

5 plus stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trigger....OMG.....just wow what a absolutely intense book. The first few pages of this book will suck you in and not let go until the end of the book. Which by the way you could easily walk away at the end wanting so much more it was that amazing, luckily for us L.P. Dover fans this new series ( A Circle of Justice novels) that will have a total of four books is starting with a bang 💥. This book has some of everything friends to lover, second chance romance, intrigue, anger, heartache and justice.

We are introduced to Preston first and he is a very angry person. Trying every day to outrun the pain of loosing his mother and older sister to a violent attack when he was fifteen. Believing his father blames him because the two were away on a fishing trip, the guilt just adds to a horrific relationship between father and son. While attending college out of state Preston makes friends and becomes part of a band one of his few outlets for all his anger. Emma who is also in the band is someone he's grown to care about, he doesn't pursue more because he believes he has nothing to offer her. When going away to college he decided to keep his past hidden to avoid pity and people prying in his life. Snap this is where the story begins on his way to meet his friends and walking through campus he comes across a crime being committed. From this encounter he will change the course he was on walking away from his friends, band and Emma.

FAST FORWARD EIGHT YEARS!!!

Emma is a personal assistant to a very wealthy man employed to help write proposals. Little does she know but her employer is part of a special forces FBI assassins group that spend countless hours getting rid of the scum of the earth. Preston In addition to Glenn's sons were recruited by Glenn his fathers best friend and second father to Preston. Summoned by Glenn who is doing what he can to reconnect Preston and his dying father is ordered back to his hometown. On the night of his arrival to the shock of both Preston and Emma their worlds collide ordered to work together on a new business that has Glenn adding and hiring music talent to his business portfolio. Emotions simmer, new leads on the murder of Preston's mom and sister surface, chemistry sizzles and love is pushed to the limit in this amazing book.

This is such an an intense read. The writing is so flawless the author keeps you so emerged in the story all the way to the end. Written in dual POV my personal favorite. I highly recommend this book if I could give more than five stars I would!!!!

For Preston Hale he isn't the man who Emma knew all those years ago. He's closed off, no emotion, and well he has one mission. To rid the world of bad guys. Emma lost the man she loved back in college but now she's not sure he's the man who she thought she knew.

This book was awesome. IT was page turning and you can't help but get lost in their story as Preston comes to terms iwth his past and present. Especially when they collide. It was a really good book and so far I have seriously enjoyed every one that I have read by L.P. Dover and can't wait for more.

Review This was a good read. It was a romance mystery and I thought the mystery/suspense side of things was really good. The plotline had me hooked and was gripping and at times had me on the edge of my seat. However, the romance element fell a little short for me as I never really connected to the H/h and just felt the romance side of things could have been a little more in depth.

Overall, however, I did enjoy this start to a new series and I look forward to the next book - 3.5 stars
