For me, the author got a bit long-winded. Upon reading the chapters, I could anticipate what was coming next. The troubles and heartaches were far too many and detracted from just enjoying a good read.

I chose I will attempt to read everything Linda Broday has turning out paving the way to her third book in Men of Legend adventure. To start my central goal, I had the honor and pleasure to read Knight on the Texas Plains. The plot of this story was chilling, without a doubt.

Knight on the Texas Plains opens up with Duel McClain winning not exactly at cards but rather winning a tad bit something a greater amount of the human assortment. That is correct, Duel McClain turn into a moment father, without the hustle of finding a lady.
That is not all, no sooner, Duel won the child in the poker game, he comes across Jessie, a lady of few words and uneasy around men.
As the story advance, we realize why Jessie is so unsteady. That is the point at which we likewise come to discover that Knight on the Texas Plain wasn't just about the working of a connection between man, woman, and child. But a moralization tale that we have seen all so often in our society to date.

Knight on the Texas Plain brought back a study paper that I’ve composed. Wherefore, the subject didn’t have a happier ending. Knight on the Texas Plains did and with a superior result for Jessie Foltry.

A few things to ask yourself before reading this book and I believe it's a decent place to end this review.

Does it influence your ethical compass in the event that you see something, and do nothing? Is it accurate to say that you are similarly as blameworthy as the individual who's playing out the act? Last but certainly not least. Does your action define who you are as a person?

I am a reader who tends to get emotionally invested in the books I read, but I have never felt more enmeshed with characters then I did when I read Linda Broday’s latest novel “Knight on the Texas Plain.” Ms. Broday created a story and characters that made you feel the raw emotion in a way that you feel as if you the reader are living their lives. Duel McClain just wanted to play some cards and have a drink when the man he was playing with put his tiny daughter up for his bet, and when Duel won he found himself wondering what to do with the beautiful Marley Rose. As he was contemplating his current situation Jessie Foltry stumbles into his camp half dead, and after reassuring her that he would keep her safe the two settle into an uneasy truce. These two broken people must find a way to become whole in order to give Marley Rose the home she deserves, but when the past catches up they prove that love and faith are more powerful than any outside force. I was given an advanced copy of this book, and all of the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Even with the so called abbreviations which I took to be there on purpose.... It is a buy buy buy buy buy book! A story with character and life. One that touches your heart and keeps you reading and feeling. I explored the story without stopping as I was totally captivated by it. I wanted so much for a few things more to have happened to make it a little lighter but all in all I would say this is a great read! One that will warm you from your toes to your heart and back again! This writer is truly amazing in the way she has of telling a story and making you feel a part of it. I have only discovered this author lately but she is definitely one I will keep my eyes out for. A truly great read! I was given this book in return for a honest review. Anna

For fans of Linda Broday first know that KNIGHT ON THE TEXAS PLAINS was originally published in 2002. It was book #1 of the Texas Heroes series followed by The Cowboy Who Came Calling. KNIGHT ON THE TEXAS PLAINS is a study of wife abuse, society indifference and the law turning a blind eye. Taking place in Texas in 1880 just emphasizes the point of how long this type of abuse has gone on – excused – overlooked sometimes by the very people charged with protecting those in need. The book is filled with vivid images of a harsh reality. As current and significant as when originally released.

KNIGHT ON THE TEXAS PLAINS could easily be penned taking place in current times. Social workers have their hands full with cases that are frightening. Courts can’t handle the load so many cases are settled. Settled as in someone is probably still going to be at the mercy of another.

Make no mistake – women are strong. Linda Broday makes you aware with several cringe worthy mental images that being a victim doesn’t make you weak. The woman at the heart of KNIGHT ON THE TEXAS PLAINS is Jessie Foltry and at the forefront is her strength and audacity to want to live. Jessie bears the mental and physical scars of living eight years with a man – her husband – who used her as a human punching bag and worse. The current society somehow felt that a man was entitled to use force to keep his wife in line. It was not against the law for a man to hit his wife. We sometimes wonder about animal abuse but then often say that it shouldn’t surprise us when people can be so abusive to another person.

A basic lack of humanity. Jessie was used to that aspect of her marriage. But this strong willed woman kept trying to escape – get away – only to be returned and have her body used for sport.

Jeremiah Foltry had no humanity and his treatment of Jessie was the proof. Plain and simple. But nothing really is that simple. The laws of the land still held that murder was murder. And Jessie was guilty of shooting Jeremiah Foltry.

Jessie was on the run from what she had done to save herself and from her husband’s band of miscreants when she happened on Duel McClain’s camp. Neither Duel nor Jessie would ever fathom how that random event would ultimately change the course of both their lives. Or the baby Marley Rose’s. Duel needed Jessie’s help to get Marley Rose back to his family farm. Duel had basically won this baby. But in actuality Duel had a heart big as the outdoors. He wouldn’t think of turning his back on anyone that needed his help. And candidly speaking there weren’t any two people that needed Duel more than Jessie and Marley Rose.

KNIGHT ON THE TEXAS PLAINS is about finding love and making peace with yourself. Linda Broday basically threw together a strange conglomeration of characters that somehow made sense. Broday constructed a very eclectic family that included a dog named Boobie and a goat name Cheeba. Even the animals got credit for contributing to this thrown together family group. If you missed this story first time around KNIGHT ON THE TEXAS PLAINS is worth a look. Not sure if the second book in this series will also be reissued but I’m going to keep an eye out for it.

Historical Western Romances have a special place in my heart. I just love the simple, pure, raw and hard-working lifestyle many had back in those days. It wasn't an easy time period to be alive, but it was very rewarding. The blurb of Knight of the Texas Plains piqued my interest. One of the reasons that made me decide to read this story was because of the main character Duel, who was thrust into the role of father to an abandoned baby. I just love when there is a child involved in the story, the interaction between child and parent is beautiful to read. Duel doesn't really know what to do with the cute baby girl Marley Rose. He tries to keep a distance but eventually he bonds with the baby.

Jessie stumbled up to his campfire in bruises, and Duel does what any gentleman would do and offers her a safe place to spend the night. Jessie is a very strong and caring character. I loved how she took to the baby right away and how the clueless Duel asks for her help with the baby. Both Duel and Jessie keep their distance because of their own reasons and things that happened in their past. However Jessie learns what a loyal, honest, protective and honorable man Duel is and her feelings for him change. I loved that the author took her time to develop their relationship with both each other and Marley Rose. Marley definitely stole many hearts in this book, including mine! There was a very open communication between Duel and Jessie, which I really appreciated. I can't wait to read the next book in the Texas Heroes series. Hopefully Duel's brother Luke will get his own story.

That guy just hurt a baby?! Someone shoot him.

Did he lose a baby, then? Sad.

She can't be a slave. Maybe an indentured servant?

Ah, the days when women had reputations, good or bad.

Jesus, what could have happened that would make her think suicide is better than marriage?

Which is the greater sin, beating your wife half to death, or killing your husband who's beating you?

He talks to the horse like he's a man.

Marley's a little young for candy.

He did tell her to wear the dresses.

I hope they're keeping track of all the lies.

I wish Maria could come visit often. Maybe when Will Gentry dies.

Haha, Marley's name for Yellow Dog is funny!

At least now Jessie knows she's allergic...?

That man is everywhere! He's like the plague.

Good dog.

Rock, meet a hard place.

That baby is a miracle worker. Maybe she's a witch trapped in a baby's body.

It must be hard for a father to see his dead daughter's husband fall in love with someone else.

This kangaroo court is clearly biased towards "poor" Jeremiah.

Haha, I like this doctor!

"Slapped his wife around"? How about I slap you, Langtree?

If you see something, and do nothing to stop it, you're just as guilty.

Oh, Morgan, you stupid man. You just proved that you're an unreliable witness.

They're going to need a bigger house.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
