Great book, a real page turner with a lovely gothic feel to it,
We all know that when you're phone rings late at night that its not good news Irini feels real fear when hers rings, she knows exactly who it will be and she really doesn't want to answer as it means that Elle has found her again. Elle tells her that their mother has died, Irini doesn't ask how she died, she just thinks that Elle has killed her. What a start to a book, if the first couple of chapters don't grab you nothing will.
the whole story is based around the fraught relationship between the two sisters, Irini and Elle. Irini was sent away at the age of three to live with her aunt and uncle and Elle stayed with their family, this leaves Elle Irini with questions about why her parents would keep Elle and discard her. They travel to the family home in Scotland for the funeral and Irini meets her father for the first time. she realises that both her father and herself are more than a little afraid of Elle with her erratic behaviour and her need to be in control. Irini obviously has questions for her father but he seems reluctant to speak to her.
What secrets are waiting to be uncovered, will Irini finally get the answers she so desperately needs and wants

This was an OK read for me. It was an unusual pyschological drama but I found it slow to get into. Just not for me.

My Sister by Michelle Adams is a story of two sisters who were seperated when they were young and Irini wants answers as to why. When she returns to the family home for her mothers funeral she hopes to find out the truth from her sister Elle but she is unstable and what follows is a story of secrets and lies.I found the book a bit boring and couldn't really get into it at all.It had a slow start which i thought would improve but for me it never.Even towards the end when Casey another sister who is thrown into the mix appears i found myself not really caring how it ended because by then i just wanted to finish the book. Not for me i'm afraid.

Michelle Adams' debut novel, My Sister, is probably number one contender right now for most creepy, unsettling, and deliciously sinister book of the year. This book got under my skin right from the very first page and kept me hooked from beginning to end.

It starts when Irini gets a late night phone call from her sister Elle to tell her their mother has passed away. Immediately there's an intriguing tension between the two sisters and it's clear that this is a family with a lot of skeletons in the cupboard. Irene doesn't know her parents, having been sent to live with an aunt when she was very small and she wants to know why was she sent away and not her sister. What did she do to make her parents abandon their relationship with her in favour of Elle. So she goes back home for the first time since she was a child hoping for answers. But no-one seems to be able to tell the straight truth, least of all her increasingly erratic sister.

God, this was such an intense read. The relationship between the two sisters was fascinating and I thought Elle in particular was written very well. She was terrifying, clearly damaged and dangerous, yet also compelling and addictive. I could see why Irene both idolised and feared her. As far as characters go, she's one of the most chilling and intriguing I've come across in a while. In contrast, Irini is delicate, easily manipulated and at times weak. I found her frustrating now and then, wishing she'd get a back bone and stop skirting around issues with her family. Some of decisions she makes seem a little foolish and contrived, considering what she knows about her sister. Other times I felt only sorry for her, as it seems everyone around her manipulates and mistreats her.

Despite being very much a modern story, set firmly in the present day, there's a feel of the gothic novel to this story. The huge, eerie house, the pained and silent father and the devoted staff who help to keep the hideous secrets of the family firmly kept all serve to create a wonderful atmosphere of sinister suspense. I wanted to know as much as Irini did why she'd been sent away, what had caused Elle to be so disturbed and what the secrets of this toxic relationship were. There's some real shocking moments which had me on the edge of my seat, and a very clever twist at the end which I would never have guessed in a million years.

My Sister is a gripping story, and Michelle Adams' writing is filled with tension and atmosphere, meaning that I devoured this book in two sittings. It's pretty twisted at times and probably not for the fainthearted, but I loved this sinister and chilling book and I'd happily recommend it to anyone who loves a story of tangled, twisted and toxic relationships and sinister settings.

A debut psychological thriller from Michelle Adams, from the moment you start reading this book it will have a hold of your breath, grabbing and pulling you in.
Michelle has created two very different sisters, both raised in very different ways, Elle habitually seeks out her sister Irini and destruction follows. The story breaks with a telephone call which sends Irini down a path hoping for closure, behind the reason why she was given away.
Following Irini we discover a fractured family with secrets, a fair few skeletons and the reasons behind why Irini was given away. Whilst discovering about one sister we find out the depths Elle will go to keep the secrets.
Michelle writes a compelling, gut wrenching and sometimes heart breaking storyline which will have you turning the pages faster and unwilling to put the book down.
I thank NetGalley and Headline for an advanced copy of My Sister for my honest review.

This book wasnt for me. It was too slow and whiney. Irini was just plain ole annoying. I found nothing in the story overly interesting, just very average.

Such a dark and creepy story that does not leave you feeling warm and fuzzy at the end - just the way I like it! Steeped in complex family drama and psychological turmoil, when the main character Irini get a call in the middle of the night to tell her that her mother is dead, she goes back to her family home to find out why her family gave her away at three years old.
Raw, heart-breaking and gripping novel that I just could not put down!!
Addictive.

My Sister follows the story of Irini, estranged from her family for many years until one day she gets a call from her sister, Elle, informing her their mother has died. She is compelled to return to their family home in Scotland to try and uncover the shocking truth that has defined both their lives.

I found this nook a compelling read that I skipped through in a couple of days. I have to say that the character of Elle leaves you slightly on edge the whole time but this really adds to the book.

This is the first book I've read by his author and I'm looking forward to reading more. Thank you to NetGalley, Headline and Michelle Adams for the chance to review.

I really enjoyed this book from the beginning. My Sister is cleverly written, all the characters are completely believable. Michelle Adams has written a great debut novel which is paced just right. It doesn't race along but it never drags either.
It's one of those books where you know there is a secret to be revealed towards the end so you spend your whole time trying to guess what it is. A great first novel and I will definitely be looking out for more by the author.

Thank you!

My sister kept me hooked from the first few pages. A great psychological thriller that keeps you in suspense.
Two sisters were separated when young, the story is told from Irini's point of view as she discovers the reason she was removed from the family home to live with relatives but her sister was allowed to stay with their parents.
I did not expect that twist at the end, a great book and I loved it.

I loved the relationship between the two sisters and was never quite sure who was telling the truth. I do enjoy books that delve back into the past. I shall definitely recommend and look out for Michell's next book.

This is a really good book. I didn't gallop through it as I normally would and I think perhaps it was because mentally this book just tires you out.
The book revolves around Irini, given away by her patents at age 3 to an aunt and uncle who seemingly never wanted her and did little to hide the fact. She struggles with the fact that her parents chose to keep her sister Elle instead of her. Was it because she was damaged with her disfigured hip? Never having been given an answer to any of her questions and being kept away from her family for most of her life, the news that her mother has died may perhaps give her the chance to get the answers she so badly needs....but to do that she needs to face her sister Elle who is unstable and vindictive but who in a very strange way Irini loves.
The games that Elle plays with Irini as the story unfolds are unsettling and you can see it coming, Irini can too but she just cannot help herself. This is a great read....hard on the head at times but so worth it!

The basic premise requires a hefty suspension of disbelief but if you can get past that, this is a fantastic book. Fast paced, gripping and very, very compelling.

Wow what a first book!
Irini and Elle are sisters but one is given away at the age of three and one is kept.
Could you chose one over the other? What reasons could justify this? Was the choice the right one? What impact does this have on the child given away?
These questions and more are addressed in this psychological thriller. You think you have solved it and then the tale takes a twist and you are left wondering why you hadn't seen that coming.
Who do you trust?
This is a must read book which grabs you from the off and has you wanting to sit and read to the very end in one sitting.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for this advanced copy.
