As an avid traveller myself, I was immediately drawn to the book's description and I really, really wanted to love it. I didn't. Instead I had to force myself to make it past the first chapter. The writing itself is okay, although not overwhelming and the author says as much in the foreword that he wrote this purposefully in a more colloquial style to draw the reader in like he was talking to a friend. Unfortunately, this did not work for me at all. It just felt like trying way too hard. I didn't gel with the obvious efforts to be funny and cool and "chilled out" and the approach of "we just need to love each other" and "life is awesome, dude" came on a bit too strong and I rolled my eyes so badly several times, I might have permanently damaged them. I hate slagging off a book and maybe this is just a case of too high expectations not being met, but I just couldn't finish this one.

Additionally, I don't think the "random stats" were a very good idea. For one, suffering through "extended bus rides" is a given for many long-distance workers and students. Six hours is nothing. I do 10 hour rides and retour almost every month. Secondly, a list like this generally looks like bragging if you put it right at the front of the book and any seasoned traveller worth their salt will shrug their shoulders at about half of them and go "Yeah, did that too.". Sure, the timeline here might be shorter, but to fully appreciate that it might have been better to include it as a recap at the end of the book.

I did really think I'd enjoy this book, however it didn't really appeal. It is part travel memoir, part MBS. Funny in places and I guess it does make you think, however it can be a little too overbearing in the way he describes positive aspects or self help.

Just not my cup of tea-I love to read travel books and memoirs but there wasn't very much information about the places that were visited just a lot of boring philosophizing matter.
