REVIEW: Depth unrivaled....I don't even know how to explain it.
"It was us against the world, forever and ever."

I am not a huge YA reader. I have found that some of what I have read has over-done drama and it's aggravating. Eye-roll worthy plots, unrealistic drama, and serious immaturity to the point that I just don't enjoy it. This one was different for ALL the reasons. I didn't roll my eyes at the actions and realities of these two teenagers because they were explained in the most "teenage" way, but drama free. I know that sounds weird, but it didn't seem drama-induced in any way, and that is what I like. I liked the buildup the most, though. The buildup was innocence being portrayed in such a way that you had no choice but to remember what it was like for YOU growing up. It was relatable in that aspect, and that made me love this book.

The reality of the feelings, the deep rooted feelings of these two very different kids from very different worlds that met on some unfortunate night created a relationship of epic proportions. I loved the depth in this book. I loved that it wasn't a mass of uncontrolled emotions, but a smooth, even story that dragged me in immediately and kept me reading. It didn't feel long and drawn out, but it didn't read quickly either. I loved how the basics of the storyline and characters were set up. I really liked how she handled the way Edie retreated and changed, and I love how John came out and wanted more. I really liked this book A LOT. What a dynamic between these two characters. So NEAT. I am at a loss. I really enjoyed this one.

"We keep trying," he said simply. "If we really want it, then we don't give up. That easy."

BREAKDOWN: The reality behind this story? My gosh -- it's insane to even begin to think about because it was a life changing, mind altering, mood shifting event that just made you.......think, for the lack of a better word. I mean, I can't even begin to imagine being in that predicament, and trying to deal with the aftermath? Learning to see life in a whole new light? With a fresh set of goals and "fuck yous" to deal with? Man, I loved that about Edie. Her mouth, her quirky responses, her attitude. I love it. I loved seeing her whole perspective shift, her whole outlook on life completely change, and that was refreshing. I loved the slow build between these two as well. An unlikely friendship had life not altered it's course.

LOOK AT THAT COVER.....study it, drool over it, and then understand that this, to me, was the perfect picture for John. We got to "meet" him, but not having a face made it so easy to relate to and 'picture'. I loved this cover!!! PERFECT cover.

"I pressed the palm of my hand over his heart, feeling it beating fast. Inside of him seemed every bit as stirred up as inside of me."

I will be honest, I got a verrrrry unedited and unformatted copy so it made it rather hard to read, but the story itself was a breath of fresh air. It was long and wordy, but they were not misplaced words for space. They really told a story of growing/learning/experimenting and the journey we took with them led us along a path of discovery. It was a very well written and a wonderful story to read. For being my first Kylie Scott book, I will make sure I check out her other books and read more. I really enjoyed her style of storytelling. I feel like she, to me, is going to be one I really need to pay attention to because her words had depth and meaning, and I found myself clinging to the emotion and the reality behind her words....and that was a great first impression for me.

"You're here?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"Because this is where you are." -- sigh

Could have been better, but I loved the conceit of following two people who had been involved in a traumatic event and seeing how their lives unfold afterward. Most narratives end shortly after the trauma.

Holy cannoli this book is AMAZING! I can't believe how well written and emotional this book was. Kylie knows how to punch you in the gut and not let you breath for a bit but when you release that deep breath it was all worth it.

This is one of the most emotional and truly realistic novels I have read in a while. If someone told me that this novel was based on true events I wouldn’t bat and eye. This was a coming of age story about changing your outlook on life and finding who you truly want to be. About finding love in the last place you expect it. A story about finding your place.

I don’t know, this book is about a lot of things. After a near death experience, John and Edie’s lives are changed by each other, and not for the worse. They both were stuck int here lives and when they endure this, they come out the other side looking at life in a new way.

I loved experiencing the book with Edie. This book made me think about being 17 again, experiencing all the firsts again with the people you think are going to be your end-all. It was beautiful and heart breaking and then at the same time it turned around to be healing.

I lived Edie. I loved watching her find herself and I loved even more being with her as she connected with John. Oh, John. I could read this whole book from his POV and not be bored at all. Kylie SLAYED with this novel. This was a beautiful story with an even more powerful message.

I went into this totally blind. I was just excited to read Kylie Scott’s latest novel. Trust follows Edie’s journey after she’s held hostage at a convenience store. Feeling like an outcast, feeling lost and betrayed and dealing with the aftermath of this situation she finds a friend in John, her conveyance store savior. They are bonded through that night. I truly hated every time I had to put this down. It carried a really beautiful message to young girls that feel like they don’t fit in. It also shows that anybody can turn their lives around if they want it bad enough. The ending left me a bit deflated. I wished more time had passed in the epilogue. But that little detail doesn’t change the way I feel about the rest of the book.

I’ll be completely honest with you, I only requested this ARC because the female MC was described as chubby, curvy or not-the-typical-skinny in some reviews. Or in other words, the female MC, Edie, was fat. Oh man, how much I dread that ugly ugly word. Anyway, it’s not that often that the heroine of the story is curvy and the story itself doesn’t revolve around that fact in particular. I’ve got to say, it was quite refreshing that she wouldn’t put up with any crap regarding her weight, that she wasn’t going on and on about diets, or that she was not constantly thinking on how to lose that weight to get the hot guy. She had complexes, yes, but the author dealt with them in a very natural way. And to be frank, Edie had other issues to occupy her mind with.

[Blurb from goodreads] After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

This book starts right away with a kick. The first few chapters are action packed, and not only I absolutely loved them but they got me instantly hooked and glued to the story. The robbery changes the way Edie sees life, and ultimately, changes her. I loved her character in the first quarter of the book, she stopped allowing bullies to get to her, she stood up for herself and she didn’t put up with any crap. The problem is that things go downhill from there. After changing schools she crosses paths with John – the guy that saved her in the robbery incident – and they sort of become friends. And I say sort of because John’s character was so unreadable, I find hard to say what he thought of Edie or basically anything about him. He starts right off with this stay away from me I am no good for you pitch and from there, Edie decides she doesn’t care and proceeds to basically drool after him while repeating time and time again how much he gets her or how he’s the only one that understands how life has changed. But still, John barely gives her anything a part from the word “Right.” which was his favourite reply to literally anything she says.

So the special emotional connection after that night, I can understand. What I didn’t see anywhere was chemistry, or anything else deeper than friendship. The author was so concerned about creating this mysterious and whimsical but protective character, that she forgot to actually give the reader a reason to care about him.

*I received this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Can we please get a hell yeah for a fat protagonist??

It is always such a nice but unfortunately rare change of pace when we get a leading character who is outside the realms of 'normal' body types, and as a big gal I sure appreciate having a character that looks like I do.

ALSO FUN FACT while I was travelling in Kenya with my brother a few years ago I was mugged at gun point. So yeah, a lot of similarities between the protagonist and my own experiences. And shit like that does fuck you up a bit, so I was pretty pleased with how the author wrote about the trauma of people who have experienced gun violence. Guns terrify me and thus I'm always a little uncomfortable around police etc, but I am so, so thankful I live in Australia and not America because of our A+ gun policies.

ANYWAY moving aside from politics, I was a tad surprised by how much I liked this book. I was pretty prepared for this to be a bit meh, a bit of a smutty love fest with an average story line and characters I didn't particularly care about. The result was so much better than expected. The story line was really nice and engaging, I liked the characters a lot (both Edie and John need a little more chill though, so many dumb arguments that luckily only lasted a few pages) and I was a big fan of Hang for being such a solid bestie to Edie. And I mean we all need a little smut in our lives right? I sure wasn't complaining- hat tip to Kylie Scott.

I downed this book in about half a day- easy to binge, super likeable and diverse characters and especially good romance, and a really decent portrayal of gun trauma. Well done.

Review: 3 out of 5 stars

Trust is a book that took me by surprise, after reading the synopsis I was eager to delve into this book which was raw and real with enjoyable characters and a creative storyline.

Our MC’s are John Cole and Edie Millen, complete opposites but bought together by a traumatic event which affected them both. When Edie has enough of her private school life she moves to the local public school and again meets up with John.

These characters share a connection, John understands what Edie is going through emotionally and vice versa; they support one another and get what each are feeling, they are both needing support and rely on one another to get through each day.

Edie wasn’t your typical YA heroine, not stick figure perfect or popular but she was kind-hearted and strong; I really liked John – he had his issues and has made mistakes but he was working through them and trying to be a better person.

The storyline in a nutshell is about Edie and John being held up in a convenience store, their feelings and the way they deal with the event and the aftermath and their growing friendship and feelings towards one another.

Unfortunately, I found the plot to be unclear and inconsistent which let it down for me, there was too much happening. The pacing started off at a rapid pace but throughout the rest of the book it was varied; I also found the ending to be quite rushed.

Overall, I enjoyed Kylie Scott’s writing style and the way she dealt with serious issues, I also liked her interesting characters but the points above let it down for me.

The characters were definitely the highlight of this one for me, and I have to credit Scott, because she developed them beautifully.

John, the love interest, was pretty great, too. He had that sort of "reformed bad boy" thing going for him which was refreshing since we usually just get bad boy, period. It's obvious that he really cares for Edie and is intent on protecting her (but not in a controlling way, which, again, pleases me greatly!) But just because John was reformed, doesn't mean he wasn't mysterious, as well.

Unfortunately this book was just kind of... forgettable. None of the characters really stuck with me, and the romance was cute but not that cute.

This story lacked plot. While I was interested from start to finish, there wasn't much structure to the story after the original hostage situation. Everything sort of explodes at the end, slightly out of the blue, and I wish there'd been more buildup.

As a whole the book just felt a little bit... meh. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it and it wasn't bad, but I just wanted more out of it than it gave me.

Love love love!

It was supposed to be a night of junk food, chilling in PJs and binge watching. Before that happens, Edie walks into the gas station to grab the junk food for the night. Unfortunately that night goes way off track. Edie and two guys are trapped in the gas station with a crazy person waving around a gun. By the end of it all, not everyone will make it alive....

While Edie is trying to heal and forget everything that happened, the world around her isn't letting her forget forget what happened. Her supposed BF is selling out her story to any new station who will give her the spotlight. The kids at school are still being horrid to her and frankly she is tired of it. So its off to public school for her.

When Edie and John meet again....life will start to change for them and for the better. Laughter, socialize, new friends, and even a new romance.

Kylie did an amazing job. The characters and story was perfectly done. Your emotions will come out and its a story you can't miss.

It is a great young adult/new adult book. Emotional, intriguing and addictive.

The action packed start was exciting and introduced me to Edie and John in quite an intense way. The after-effects of that life changing event were fascinating, sometimes surprising and easily held my interest.

Edie and John had a fiery friendship, I guess being thrown together in the way that they were made things more complicated than usual. Personally I loved the tense banter between the two of them, it was exciting! Edie's female friends were just as entertaining, particularly Hang - she was one of my favourites and I'd love to read her story too.

The storyline was filled with typical and not-so-typical teen angst alongside a whole load of firsts and some sweet moments too. Raw attitude rolled off the pages at me and gave the book a youthful, energetic vibe.

Trust was enjoyable right from the start, it finished with a murky twist which left me hoping for more to come!

I was so consumed by Trust by Kylie Scott! I had read the blurb and knew what it was about and still was blown away by this story. This book was so powerful and emotional.

John and Edie experience a traumatic event together that impacts their future in different ways. John was there for her and the only one who understands. They believe they will never see each other again, but when Edie needs a change, she crosses paths with John again.

John was not perfect. He had made mistakes and many wrong choices in the past. But after what happened, he wanted to make better choices and build a future. Edie on the other hand begins acting out and is troubled. John steps in and helps her. He is the only other person who understands what she is going through. But when their friendship leads to more, things really begin to get complicated.

I loved seeing John and Edie’s relationship grow throughout the story. John was the bad boy with heart. He tried to do the best thing and stay away from her, but they kept being drawn to each other. Though Edie suffered through bullying in her previous school, I loved that she was okay with herself. Like anyone else, she has self-doubts and insecurities, but she was also loving with a sense of humor.

I loved this story. It was an intense and beautiful young adult story. I loved the characters, the story and how well it all flowed together. John and Edie face so many obstacles togethers, but are so strong together.

Basically I’m not used to read in english, but i didn’t think twice when it comes to an author that i do appreciate. This is why I’ve jumped at the chance to read the new Kylie Scott book !
Trust is different from the other Kylie’s books and it was very pleasant to discover the author with another type of books.
Edie is a normal, reasonable and disciplined adolescent. With no extraordinary shape or talent. She likes books, films and has a sweet tooth. We cannot say that she is neither popular nor extravagant even if she reached an age where she can feel herself capable and curious of everything. Her life has changed one evening at the local supermarket where she has been captured and made hostage. When she has been left alive, she came to a conclusion where she reordered her priorities accordingly.
While she is tranferred to a public high school, she meet up with John, the other victim of the hold-up who helped her at the risk of his own life. Despite the fact of John being a bad boy and a dealer, he was impacted by the event and behind the unreachable cold guy, we can see the man he could bacome, the one he would be.
Ours wounded souls are now tied with a strange link. They have been gathered by the threat of losing their lifes and they are now taking a different directions of what they truly are.

While John is doing his best for a better future, Elie is experiencing anger that never leaves her since the accident.
Their friendship will help them to recover, they are more and more open to each other and more and more supportive as well, allowing them to be better persons. But it won’t prevent them from the mess they will face when the feelings are getting more and more intense.

I really loved the construction and the development of the characters. The author doesn’t only talk about confidence towards people in general but also about being confident towards ourselves, to be authentic with our feelings, to be faithful about what we stand up for and to be real.
If you have already read Stage dive and Dive bar by Kylie Scott, you won’t miss the difference between these books and Trust which is more realistic with a bitt of drama and angst.
The writing is pleasant a s usual and i have been delightfully swept into Kylie’s story. Is was a beautiful reading, as always when it comes to Kylie Scott books. So you guys need to read it !

I absolutely loved this book by kylie Scott her writing style is flawless and the story just flowed ....can't wait to hear more from this author

TRUST kept me up past 2 am to finish. It was one of those that had me so invested, I didn't even realize I was up way past my bedtime. But I had to see outcome and what becomes of these wonderful characters I quickly became so invested in. Then, once I was done, I stayed up even later thinking back on it. I even open the book to pages read and relived certain scenes. I was enamored with the story and the characters and absolutely could not get enough of either.

This was my first book by Scott, but I can definitely say it will not be my last. I enjoyed her writing and the way she told her story. Even being long past my teen years, I was easily addicted to the YA story, the characters, and everything else that makes up this crazy, wild book. There is quite a bit of heavy as the characters are dealing with the after effects of a robbery gone wrong. But even still, I couldn't get enough.

Can I just tell you how much I loved Edie? Because I adored everything about her. She wasn’t the typical girl we read about in our favorites of favorites. And after spending a bit of time with a crazed druggie and his gun barrel, she changes a few things in her life; rearranging her priorities. And becomes a bit more braver. She is a beautiful person with a wonderful soul.

Amazing and emotional...heartbreaking and heart wrenching...steamy and romantic! TRUST is an absolute must read and delivers all fronts! 5 Stars!
