Books about weather, especially "bad" weather, are generally a safe bet with young readers. I'm fond of the approach this one takes. By framing it with the titular question, Cobb is able to explore not only the mechanics of hurricanes but how we've learned about them. And I like nonfiction that leaves the reader considering possibilities. Add in some truly awe inspiring photos and you've got a solid selection.

I did enjoy this book and thought it was crammed full of interesting information and facts that would be ideal for school age children, even I learnt from it - 5 stars and the glossary at the end was a nice touch!!

I just couldn't finish this one, sadly. I was really looking forward to it, as I just adore books about the weather.
However I struggled to get through this, I got to page 12 or so before I just didn't want to read further. The text was just so bone-dry, there was no spark of energy. It was like reading a text book. This could have been so much better if they had written it more engaging, more fun.
So sad. :( It started off pretty great with a personal story, so I had even higher hopes.
