Pic Candle is a professional Doodle artist - who knew there was such a thing? Her kawaii (cute) depictions of everyday objects are charming and after reading this book, I am now motivated to try to have ango myself. Are the doodles simple? Yes, but I know I lack the vision to come up with these things myself so this book gives me loads of inspiration to have a go. A fun book which will give you an enjoyable hobby.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

These doodles are incredibly cute! The steps are very simple and I appreciated the tips about drawing tools as well. I would have liked to see some animal doodles, but the friendly monsters were very imaginative. Overall the book is appropriate for kids, teens and adults - anyone who likes cute things!

A cute little book that introduces you to the concept of kawaii and gives simple instructions to create your own kawaii drawings. There is also room inside for drawing. Perfect for anybody into bullet journaling.

Many doodling books have examples of doodles but don't break down the steps to making them. That's one of the things that sets Kawaii Doodle Class apart. All of the adorable doodles are built up step-by-step. Not only does this make it easy to recreate the doodles, but it teaches the doodler how to think about shapes and gives them the experience to make their own doodles.

The style is--of course--very cute and fun. Lots of the doodles would be perfect for using on calendars and planners. Despite the cuteness, this isn't a book aimed at children. Adults with a love of kawaii or cute things will love this book, too.

This is a cute book with easy to follow, step by step instructions. Following the steps to draw the numerous items in each section helps you learn the curves and lines and faces. Then you get to the "Get Inspired" section and you can use the tools you learned in the earlier pages to doodle whole groups of friendly cuteness!
Plus, my 7 year old was able to follow along and draw the characters as well. It is a great springboard for anyone who is interested in learning the basics on kawaii and cartoon type drawing.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I loved kawaii things, my house is full with them. :P So of course I had to check out this book. Which I mostly got because of the kawaii doodles and less for getting to draw them. Yep, I wasn't that interested in learning to draw them, I just wanted to see them and squee all the time.

There are 5 chapters each of them a new category of cuteness. From Adorable Foods & Drinks to Cheerful Doodle Monsters, this book features a heavy load of all that is cute.

The instructions for the doodles are quite easy, though at times I found it weird that there were two ways listed which are pretty much the same just a bit different (like with the moon, you can start with a small semi-circle or an incomplete circle, I just didn't see why it was needed to have two ways).

On one page I couldn't help but laugh: "Check out their fun facial expressions..." Um, unless I am blind, but they all had the same expression, smiley face. Just like about 90-95% of the doodles in the book. Given that line I would have thought they all had different ones, or that they were a bit mixed.
Later on in the book (with the monsters) the sentence actually made sense, as the monsters there had a whole mix of fun expressions.

And that is also what stood out, he tells us you can use various expressions, yet in almost all his doodles he uses the same one (smiley face). And it gets a bit bland.

Plus after a while I got a bit bored, since all his stuff was just x item or x plant or x whatever with a smiley face. Just adding a smiley face to everything doesn't make something kawaii....

I do hope that in the finished version the blue blocks (located in the clouds at each new chapter) are removed and that something else is in its place. Now it looked a bit ugly.

A few bonus points for those Fun Time pages, though they don't really work on a tablet. :P Can't colour them after all, and I can only view one page at a time, so I have to go flip through those 2 pages to find things. But in a paperback/physical copy of the book it would work perfectly.

All in all, it started off pretty well, but it just wasn't as enjoyable and fun as I had hoped it would be. :(

A really cute book full of easy to follow tutorials and great tips. Perfect for beginners or experienced doodlers looking for some creative inspiration!

This book was absolutely adorable. I had a fantastic time going through each of the sections and drawing the little doodles. Once I practice them more, I intend to branch out and try some of the "get inspired" doodles. This really did make me feel more comfortable doodling, that it doesn't have to be perfect. Adding a little face to all the inanimate objects really did make them cuter. I can't wait to share this with friends so they can enjoy it too.

As soon as I was approved for this review, my son and I sat down and tried it out. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The items in the book that you are trying to draw are super cute and easy to personalize. I will be purchasing a copy of this book (and more pencils and paper) very soon. This would be a great gift for a person who wants to learn to draw.

This book is adorable and easy to follow! Both my 7 year old and 13 year old love Kawaii and they looked through the book with me -- they can't wait to sit down with their art supplies. This is definitely a book I would add a hard copy of to our collection. I think it will be the used for our beginning of the year fun art projects. :)

"Kawaii" is a Japanese concept/idea dating back to the 1970's which loosely translates to "cuteness" in English. In Japan, it basically is used to describe anything that is cue, from clothing to handwriting. This book includes five sections: Adorable Food and Drinks, Lovable Nature, Cheerful Doodle Monsters, Everyday Cute and Charming Holiday decorations. It offers more than 75 characters for readers to learn to draw and has other suggestions for which one can expand on what they've just learned.

In addition to the basic tools for learning to draw being outlined, there's a very helpful set of pages within the Everyday Cute about the easiest way to draw some basic shapes, like a cone or a cube or a pyramid. These things are often left out of "How to Draw" books and it's useful to remember that not every beginner knows how to do these.

Overall, the book really captures both Kawaii basics and an easy level for new "artists". Definitely think it's great for anyone wanting to learn.

Thank you NetGalley and Race Point for allowing me an advanced copy of what is a brilliant book from Zainab Khan. In return for the privilege this is my review. I came to this in total ignorance of what Kawaii Doodles are my interest being raised by have two relatively new grand children and wanting to find out how to draw pictures with them in apparent simple ways. So, for all those who say - "I can't draw", "I'm no good at drawing" here is the book for you and also for those of us who think we can draw but spend more time erasing than drawing.
This volume is well laid out, simple to follow and the author has spent a lot of time and effort in organising it with plenty of examples. I cannot heap too much praise.
By the end you will not be a Michelangelo but you will be able to win at Pictionary and also entertain your little ones.
So, but the book a pad and some colour pencils and away you go.

I used to buy KAWAII stickers on ETSY a lot, for use in my planner, bullet journal, and personal journals. I love the fact that they are so cute. This doodle book made it possible for me to start doodling KAWAII characters instead of buying stickers constantly. I feel like this is going to save me so much money in the long run.
This book has a wonderful variety of doodles ranging from adorable food and drinks, lovable nature, cheerful doodle monsters, everyday cute objects, to charming holiday decorations. The search & find puzzles that you can also color at the end of the book looks so fun and calming. I am in no way what I consider artistically inclined, yet found the direction very easy to follow. I took the advice given and sketched in pencil first so I could erase any mistakes.
I think this book is wonderful for anyone interested in learning how to doodle. The step by step directions are so easy to follow it doesn't matter your artistic ability. If you are buying stickers, why not switch it up and learn a fun hobby while you are at it.

Kawaii meaning cute.

If like me you can't draw a thing but still love to try, then this book is for you. Each Kawaii Doodle can be completed very simply, following the step by step pictures with guidance notes in plain English. The addition of the face transforms the doodle into an adorable character. In a nutshell, these doodles are very addictive and will have both children and adults drawing like a pro. Loved it.

Many thanks to Netgalley who provided me with this ARC. I chose to read it and give a voluntary and unbiased review.

I've following Zainab Khan for a while now, i'm happy and proud to be able to have this book. However, even it's the cutest book out there, i just don't feel it was as instructive as it was supossed to be, the step by step tutorial were a little.... I don't know, im a amateur doobler and some of the tutorials seems to have BEEEN made complicated on purpose. I'm just saying there are ways to draw those doodle without so much steps, but, as i said at the beginning, i´m just an amateur.

But it was a beautiful book, very kawaii, i'm totally going to recommed it

Sooooooo cute!
If Kawaii translates to ‘cuteness’ then I guess this book is oozing Kawaii.
This book takes simple objects and shows you how you can turn them into cute little doodle characters.

After a quick introduction the book is divided into five different categories…..
Adorable Food and Drinks
Lovable Nature
Cheerful Doodle Monsters
Everyday Cute
and Charming Holiday Decorations.

Within each of these sections we are presented with a selection of cute characters; each with step by step directions on how to create them for ourselves, and further useful tips on how we can make them our own with cute additions to the basic character idea.
The book provides plenty of inspiration to then go on to create your own doodle characters.

Aimed at the beginner, this book would be ideal for those starting out with Kawaii doodling or those nervous of their doodling/artistic capabilities. Or to be honest those like myself just looking for a stress free doodle release.
I have previously purchased several doodling books and I have a wide selection of adult colouring books and I can see this book fitting in well with those.
Most of the doodles within the book are coloured with a couple of pastel shades; in keeping with the general cutesy theme, but the colourist in me can see much scope in creating little characters which I can then let my coloured pencils loose on.
I think the book would make a great gift; particularly for those who like cutesy things.
