A fun book which helps you get a deeper insight into the world of Anne of Green Gables. It feels particularly apt as food, cooking and baking often play a central role in the original stories, so it’s nice to put yourself in Anne’s shoes and throw yourself into cooking as she might have done.

"Have you ever wanted to sneak a sip of Diana Barry’s Favorite Raspberry Cordial or try a slice of Anne Shirley’s Liniment Cake (without the liniment!)? Now you can, with the delightful teatime snacks, mains, desserts, and more created by Kate Macdonald, L.M. Montgomery’s granddaughter."

The recipes contained within this book will evoke nostalgia in every "Anne of Green Gables" fan.

I love the fact that this cookbook was written by Lucy Maud Montgomery's granddaughter. It lends an extra dose of credibility to the recipes contained within.

I rate this wonderful cookbook as 5 OUT OF 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to Kate Macdonald, L.M. Montgomery, Quarto Publishing Group, and Race Point Publishing and NetGalley for this free honest reviewer copy of The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook: Charming Recipes from Anne and Her Friends in Avonlea."

I have loved Anne and Avonlea since I was a very small child, pouring over first the tv show and then devouring the novels at such a fast pace. I have such a deep love for all the young, precocious heroines I fell in love with, every bit of their lives as they grew up, and all the gorgeous world around them that it happened within.

This cookbook was originally published in 1985, and so this version is a reprinting updating a good portion of the interior, adding a more modern spin on it while making sure to hold tight to the charm and class that belonged to all things Montgomery. It's relatively short compared to its contemporaries coming out, but it makes up for that with amazing amounts of charm.

The chapter titles are incredibly darling (from several time periods of Anne's life: Green Gables, Avonlea, the Windy Poplars). There are even recipes from the kitchen of L.M. Montgomery's own kitchen, which made my heart swoon. Several of the recipes are, also, all familiar titles and names, and you'll definitely find yourself remembering where in the books these dishes were mentioned and enjoyed.

It was, also, deeply touching to read the short stories that accompanied the recipes, knowing that they were written for L.M. Montgomery's own grandchildren. I will be keeping a copy of this and gifting it with the novels to children all through my family.

These are excellent recipes in their own right, and are made more special by their connection to the Anne of Green Gables book. It would be fantastic to make them as you are reading the book with children or grandchildren!

One of the absolute delights of my childhood was discovering the Anne of Green Gables set of books by Lucy Maud Montgomery.  They were my favourite books for years!  And to be honest, although I haven't read one in forever, I still have the entire series and it wouldn't take much for me to be again drawn into the world of Matthew and Marilla, Diana Barry and Gilbert Blythe and the adorable red-haired, high-spirited feisty girl known as Anne of Green Gables.  And that's Anne with an E and don't you forget it!

These books taught me so much about the world - about love, about friendship and family, about how it's okay to be different (and how to embrace that difference).  Oh, and how I wasn't the only person in the world who constantly had to spell their name to people to ensure that they got it right!

So I was overjoyed to find out that there is an Anne of Green Gables Cookbook.

First up, this book is gorgeous!  The illustrations and the photos are beautiful.  And all of the recipes are referenced to the exact place in the books where they occurred..which a pedant like me totally loves!

I choose to make Anne's Poetical Egg Salad sandwiches.  And they were delicious.

OMG...these were so good!

I think sometimes it's hard when blogging to present something as simple as these sandwiches because.....well...it's egg salad right and everyone knows how to make that.  so why bother?  But this is also real food, the kind of food I want to make. Eat. Repeat.

And you can also fancy these up.  The version you are looking at has some chives in the mix.  It's great with lettuce in the sandwich.  To make it really fancy, a slice of smoked salmon is divine!

I adored this book almost as much as the novels that inspired it!  There are some other wonderful recipes including Anne's Liniment cake, Diana's raspberry cordial, vanilla ice cream, scalloped tomatoes and vegetable soup. I can't wait to try more!

Although I haven't read any of the books from the Anne of the green gables series, I liked getting to know some of the story through the recipes. The edition is gorgeous <3. Of course I am going to prepare(or at least try) some of the recipes of the book.

A delightful cookbook that will be cherished!

I very much enjoyed THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES COOKBOOK. Reading this treasure took me back to a loving place, and made me long for simpler times.

This book starts with an introduction from author Kate Macdonald, daughter of Anne of Green Gables author, L.M. Montgomery. While this cookbook will be a favorite among adults, in the introduction, Ms. Macdonald is clearly speaking to young (child) cooks, with instructions for safety, and cleanliness (though good reminders for us adult cooks as well). The introduction is followed by helpful cooking tips and terms.

Each chapter of THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES COOKBOOK is based on a different series. Chapter 1 - Recipes from Anne of Green Gables, Chapter 2 – Recipes from Anne of Avonlea, Chapter 3 – Recipes from Anne of Windy Poplars, and finally Chapter 4 – Recipes from L.M. Montgomery’s Kitchen. Every chapter is filled with beautiful color photos of most of the recipes, along with quaint sights. Also, on just about every page, are quotes from the beloved characters of the series.

Some of the recipes you’ll find are . . . Puffy Apple Dumplings, Gilbert’s Hurry-Up Dinner, Marilla’s Plum Pudding, Miss Stacy’s Baked Macaroni, White Sands Scalloped Tomatoes, Poetical Egg Salad Sandwiches, Thick and Creamy Vegetable Soup, Orange Angel Cake, Fire and Dew Sweet Potatoes, Cavendish Catsup, and so many more!

I can’t stress how much I loved THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES COOKBOOK. This heart and tummy warming cookbook is a much have for cooks off all ages, and of course, fans of Anne of Green Gables. Pick up a copy for yourself, and for a friend. You’re going to adore it!

Oh, how I love Anne of Green Gables! This book brought a smile to my face and it was a great way to revisit my old friend. I cannot wait to share these recipes with my own little girl who I just know will fall in love with Anne just like I did!

This cookbook encompassed so many of the recipes that I myself dreamed about while reading this series as a young girl. The recipes are so easy to follow and create delicious dishes to be shared! I love this cookbook as much as I love the series!

If you love Anne of Green Gables then you will love this cookbook. I always wondered what they would eat and drink during this time. It was fun to go down memory lane.

Book received from NetGalley.

I had the original printed version of this book in the early 2000's, but I never really used it. The recipes were interesting but with how they were sorted I couldn't find certain recipes that were mentioned in specific books in the series. In this version they fixed that issue and I liked it much better. In these pages you'll find the cordial that Anne set Diana drunk on, the monkey face cookies that Davy and Dora loved, as well as Miss Ellen's pound cake. Unfortunately the recipes don't go further than foods that are found in "Anne of Windy Poplars" though we do get a section of recipes from L.M. Montgomery's kitchen. This is a definite buy for anyone who has ever wondered just what are they talking about when they mention specific foods in the series.

Reader, you know they had me at Anne.

I was happy to receive a courtesy copy of this beautifully illustrated reissue of Kate Macdonald's 1985 book, The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook. I was even happier to see that many of the recipes are gluten-free or readily adapted to gluten-free! And I was also happy to see that celery and cucumber are evidently popular in the P.E.I. kitchen, since I love both.

This book is clearly targeted to middle grade to high school age readers who are learning to cook. The recipes are simple enough so that any child age eleven or older, with a bit of low-key supervision, will be able to have success. (I'm pretty sure grown-ups can enjoy them, too.) There is a brief set of useful tips at the start and a glossary for common cooking terms like folding, kneading and simmering. Photos for each dish help the young cook visualize how the finished dish should look.

These recipes are drawn from foods and beverages mentioned in the books Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of Windy Poplars. I've only tried two of the recipes thus far (Raspberry Cordial and the best and yummiest egg salad sandwich, using gluten-free bread and goat butter or ghee!) but a number of the recipes, while simple and homespun, look quite lovely. The vegetable soup is up next for me (part of my Instant Pot project, actually. But that's going to be another review...) And who knows, if I can figure out how to adapt it, Anne's Liniment Cake might be after that. (Sans Liniment, I promise.) Then I long to try to adapt the Rebecca Dew-inspired Orange Angel Cake. (Yes, that's a lot of eggs to be experimenting with. And you guys wonder why I want to raise chickens?)

This is a beautiful, if slim, cookbook, already available in hardcover or Kindle edition.

I fell in love with Anne Shirley watching "Anne with an E" on Netflix, and really want to get round to reading the books.

This book contains recipes of food mentioned in the book along with food inspired by the books and L M Montgomery. The layout is simple and clear with quotes from the books and beautiful illustrations. The instructions seem clear and easy to follow, though it does use American cups for measurements.

I loved the original Cookbook that came out when I was growing up, and this one is just as magical. The sections are divided by 3 of the books, and the fourth section has recipes from L.M. Montgomery herself! I loved the raspberry tarts and can't wait to try out the others! This is an absolute must-have for any Anne-fans!

Perfect for superfans of L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables books, featuring a bunch of a recipes inspired by both the books, and by life on early twentieth century Prince Edward Island.

I love this! What better way to immerse yourself in Anne's world than by experiencing the very same things she did? What a great teaching tool to bring the book to life for young students!

This is an incredibly sweet and thoughtful cookbook. The Anne of Green Gables book series/movies impacted my childhood heavily, and to be able to prepare dishes from the cookbook is amazing. I love that each recipe has the related excerpt of the books which helps bring back memories as you prepare the dish. My favorite recipes so far include the Puffy Apple Dumplings, Dianna Berry's Favorite Raspberry Cordial (of course!), Marilla's Plum Pudding, and so many more!
