So I actually thought this was a new cook book when I requested it from NetGalley, but alas it appears to be from 1985. Although it does mention inside the cover that This is a revised and expanded edition of The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook published in 1985 by Oxford University Press. So I guess there is some new material here. I have to admit I am not a fan of when NetGalley does this. There should be some mention in the descriptions that this is a reissue or something.

Moving on...I am a HUGE fan of Anne Of Green Gables. I am not sure you can call yourself a Canadian and not be. So you can imagine how excited I was to get my hands on this book. This is a relatively short little book coming in at just over 100 pages. The graphics and photos are beautiful, and the book is broken up into a few different chapters (COOKING TIPS, RECIPES FROM ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, RECIPES FROM ANNE OF AVONLEA, RECIPES FROM ANNE OF WINDY POPLARS, RECIPES FROM L.M. MONTGOMERY’S KITCHEN). The recipes are easy to follow and include quotes from different books in the series. If you are a fan of this series or know someone that is then this would make a great gift. Two thumbs up from yours truly.

Here is just a small sampling of the recipes you will find within...

-- Sunshiny Corn Soufflé
-- Anne’s Liniment Cake
-- Matthew Cuthbert’s Yummy Biscuit Sandwich
-- Old-Fashioned Lemonade
-- Creamy Butterscotch Pudding
-- Orange Angel Cake
-- Green Gables Shepherd’s Pie

A must have for the tried and true Anne of Green Gables fan. Beautiful photos and yummy recipes will take readers right back to their favorite food moments in the stories.

This is a lovely little cookbook for youngsters and the young at heart who have been introduced to the world of Anne of Green Gables. Most of the recipes are for dishes mentioned in one or another of the first four books. A new chapter has been added with recipes from the personal collection of L.M. Montgomery. Photos show the dishes simply displayed. The measurements and methods use equipment found in the modern kitchen. Each recipe is accompanied by an appropriate quote from the Anne books. I have owned the original version for many years and I think this will make a thoughtful gift for the next generation of readers to be charmed by the Anne of Green Gables books.
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley and I offer my honest opinion in response.

Short book of recipes of old times straight from the pages of Anne of the green gables. Best part was reading the short stories that accompanied the recipes and knowing that were written from one of Montgomery's grand-grandchildren. For lovers of Anne.

THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

This is a delightful add-on for Anne fans and budding cooks. While not all the recipes will appeal to youngsters, the relatively simple instructions are sure to entice them to try.

I was thrilled to receive this book prior to publication. It is beautifully illustrated and has lovely photos and wonderful excerpts from the novels. The recipes are great and I look forward to trying many of them. I especially like that it has imperial and metric measures to suit all cooks worldwide.

If you grew up reading the Anne series then this book needs very little introduction. Surely you will remember how often food played a part in the young orphan’s life and if you don’t then you will still have no worry because the author has lovingly added quotes from the various books with each recipe to refresh your memory as to why this particular item is important. By the time you’re done flipping through the colorful, easy to read pages and salivating over the dishes presented you will want to bake up some treats then settle in with the books to enjoy them in a thoroughly more interactive way and relive this aspect of your childhood.

There are four sections of recipes. The first 3 are from the books and they are broken down by title with quotes from the chapters attached to the recipes. The last are recipes from L. M. Montgomery herself including an Americanized version of an old Irish staple – Shepard’s Pie.

All of the recipes are easy to follow, contain ingredients that will not be hard to come by and include pictures to help anyone who is cooking impaired so they can compare their dish to what it’s supposed to look like and gauge how close they got. I tried a few of these and found them quite easy to follow though I do admit to cooking regularly from scratch so I’m not exactly a beginner. Cooking tips and terms have been included as well as some advice from a seasoned cook so if carefully read and followed no worries should be had.

This collection was originally published in 1985 and has been updated with 11 new recipes and since this has been put together by none other than L. M. Montgomery’s own granddaughter it feels safe to say the integrity of what the author originally created has been kept intact.

If you are a “kindred spirit” of Anne’s then why shouldn’t you pick this up and join in her culinary adventures?

A lovely book for fans of Anne of Green Gables of all ages, young and old. Full of tasty recipes inspired by the series, it is a treat to read and would make an ideal gift.
The simple format and handy tips is perfect as an introduction to cookery for children though it will appeal to adults too. I love the fact it does not just cover sweet food but a range of meals.

The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook is everything it should be! It includes cooking tips and terms, beautiful photos and artwork, and most of all, many foods that we will remember from the book series that we know and love. I can't wait to try out the recipes. I'll be posting a full review on Goodreads in the coming weeks after testing them out.

I guess that we all remember Anne of Green Gables's books, cartoons, movies, TV series and her sad at first, unhappy life as a orphan and her new wonderful life with Marilla and Matthew. One of the best books, cartoons, movies that a kid can sees, because they're plenty of encouragement, positive vibe, great values.

But... What kind of food Anne ate at the Cuthbert's house?

In this book by QuartoKnows, and discovered thanks to NetGalley a new edition with more recipes of: The Anne of Green Gables Cookbooks Charming recipes from Anne and her friends in Avonlea written by Kate MacDonald the grandchild of mrs. L.M.Montgomery and L. M. Montgomery the creator and writer of the various books about Anne of Green Gables.

We will discover dozens of delicious old-fashioned recipes that you can try for the joy of your loved ones, your neighbors, your children.
Chocolate caramels, the recipe of Marilla's plum pudding, a sunshiny corn soufflé, little rapsberry tarts, the rapsberry cordial, but also a good cake with delicious chocolate inside and outside.

We will find an italian recipe in Miss Stacy's baked macaroni :-) but also some recipes of biscuits for tea, like also Matthew Cuthbert's Yummy Biscuit Sandwich.

If you want to try, during the warm summer time, there is also an old fashioned lemonade recipe for restoring your body and soul.

Do you want to refresh yourself with veggies? Why not to eat a delicious lettuce salad?
If you want to stay warm or you search for a healthy dish goes for the a thick and creamy vegetable soup.

Mrs. Irving's delicious shortbread is waiting for you like also Miss Ellen's Pound Cake or a yummy orange angel cake.

During this season don't forget one of the best Montgomerys favorite's recipes: Fire and Dew Sweet Potatoes.

The book is divided in four sections. While the first three follow Anne's books the last one the kitchen by mrs. Montgomery.

Enjoy this book. Pity that the PDF is so poor and frustrating in the visualization through Adobe Digital Edition.

Highly recommended.

I thank NetGalley for this ebook

First I must say that this book looks very beautiful. It has a romantic and nostalgic feeling to it and every recipe is accompanied by a page-wide picture of the dish that looks like taken straight from the world of Anne. It includes all the recipes from the original collection of 1985 (inspired by passages from the stories of Anne of Green Gables series) plus 11 new recipes including some from L.M. Montgomery's own kitchen.

I loved that each recipe starts with a quote from one of L.M. Montgomery's books that refers to the dish we are about to make. It is as if you are summoning the story as you cook and bringing it back to life with every bite. If you are a fan of L.M. Montgomery's stories, you definitely want this book, and if you haven't read them yet, you will find plenty of inspiration here to start your journey.

Two words: raspberry cordial.

If you adored Anne of Green Gables, then you know the infamous raspberry cordial/wine scene. I was nine or ten when I first read Anne, and afterwards asked my mom where we could get some raspberry cordial. I wanted to try that beautiful drink that Diana Barry was so obsessed with. Of course, I also wanted to try red currant wine (the stuff Diana has mistaken for raspberry cordial), but I knew better than to ask for that.

At the time, my mom was very much a Marilla to my flights-of-fancy Anne, so the idea was immediately shot down. I had apple juice, and the super-sweet syrup we made fruit punch with. There was no need for raspberry cordial.

Well, this gorgeous cookbook has a few dozen scrumptious-looking recipes, including one for raspberry cordial!!!! Guess who just bought a few bags of frozen raspberries??!!

I was very impressed by this cookbook. There are four sections: recipes from Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Windy Poplars, and recipes from L.M. Montgomery's kitchen. Every recipe is accompanied by a picture, which manages to give you an old-fashioned, whimsical Anne feeling. There are desserts, salads, and even a few seafood recipes, which is great for my pescatarian diet.

I can't wait to cook up some Anne-with-an-e worthy dishes.

"Anne of Green Gables" was a huge part of my childhood, so I couldn't resist requesting this cookbook. It's by L.M.Montgomery's granddaughter and was previously published in 1985. This edition includes eleven new recipes, some by L.M. Montgomery herself.

The design is very cute, and fits the image of the "Anne of Green Gables" books. There are plenty of scenic pictures capturing scenes from the book. The food photography is simple, but good and makes you want to try out the recipes presented here.

It's a cookbook aimed at children, and there are plenty of helpful explanations as well as general advice in the beginning of the book.

The recipes are inspired by the books "Anne of Green Gables", "Anne of Avonlea" and "Anne of Windy Poplars". The emphasis is more on easy to make sweets and cakes than hearty dishes, but there are some recipes for soups, sandwiches and salads and such as well. All recipes look like something children should be able to make, maybe with occasional assistance by an adult.

Some recipes, like "Diana Barry's Favorite Raspberry Cordial" brought back fond memories of the books and made me smile. Even though the way the recipes are written suggest this is mostly aimed at a younger audience it definitely also is something for everyone who loved Anne, Diana and their other friends as children, and there are plenty of ideas for an "Anne of Green Gables" inspired tea party in here.

A lovely cookbook with easy yet delicious-sounding (and -looking) recipes that truly captures the spirit of one of my favorite childhood series.

This was such a treat! The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook will be a wonderful additon to all fans' collections but it's also a really amazing cookbook, no matter if you're familiar with L.M. Montgomery's work or not.

This cookbook was originally published in 1985 and is now re-editioned by Race Point Publishing with brand new graphic layout and additional recipes! The book includes a variety of recipes inspired by passages from Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and Anne of Windy Poplars, as well as recipes from L.M. Montgomery's kitchen, which were an especially nice surprise :)

I absolutely adored this cookbook, from the first to the very last page! I loved how well thought-out an composed it was in order to appeal to modern audience, yet it preserved the vintage feel. The recipes are all easy to understand and follow, and they use the ingredients which should be widely available. I really appreciated a few tips and terms useful in cooking, included at the beginning and the fact that the measurements were converted for people all over the world. I found the cookbook to be suitable for both adults and younger readers, who just start their journey with cooking.

Now, to the less "technical" parts, each recipe is linked to the dish that appeared or was mentioned in the books and they're accompanied by a quote. On top of that, the overall artwork is simply gorgeous. Beautiful photos and flowery illustrations fit the whole cookbook perfectly and bring out the mood of the Anne books. If my electronic copy was such a feast for the eyes, I cannot imagine how wonderful would the actual book be!

The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook by Kate Macdonald is a book that I highly recommend to all lovers of L.M. Montgomery's works or simply to those of you, who would like to learn how to cook. I can't wait to try out all the recipes myself!

I have been a fan of the Anne of Green Gables series since I was a child. This is a delightful cookbook filled with recipes from the books and from the authors own kitchen. The recipes are not too complicated and the directions are clear and easy to follow so this would be a great book for a young Anne reader to begin to learn to cook with. It is filled with lots of picture of the recipes, some pictures that look like they are from Green Gables, and there are also a few wonderful quotes from the book series. So far I have tried the apple dumplings and they came out great. I am looking forward to trying more of the recipes soon.

This is a lovely little recipe book that would appeal to both young and old. Featuring wonderful recipes and beautiful pictures, it’s a must for any Anne fan.

I loved this revised edition written by L.M. Montgomery's granddaughter! The pictures are divine, not to mention the recipes and the wonderful stories that accompany the eye-catching dishes. Anyone who loves "Anne of Green Gables, the "Emily" books or anything written by L.M. Montgomery will enjoy savoring this book and making delicious treats such as Fire and Dew Sweet Potatoes, Chocolate Goblin's Food Cake, and of course Diana Barry's Favorite Raspberry Cordial.

What a wonderful book. It is a charming cookbook that brings Prince Edward Island right into your kitchen. Each chapter is based on books in the series, or the cookbook of Montgomery herself. There are recipes for the classic raspberry tart, and raspberry cordial (that will not get Diana drunk). And I forgot about the incident with the liniment. They even have a Liniment cake recipe. The book is written by a grandchild of Montgomery, and you can see the love crafted in every page.

The cover art on this cookbook is so beautiful, and so very Anne, I couldn't resist. The cookbook is filled with treats mentioned in the Anne of Green Gables series, which are like a step back in time, but still will hold up today. For fans of Anne Shirley, this is a must have. The cookbook is short but filled with beautiful pictures and illustrations and will help you relive some of the food moments from such a wonderful book series.

The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook by Kate MacDonald and L.M. Montgomery is a great cookbook for fans of Anne of Green Gables. The pictures of the finished recipes are beautiful. I appreciate that the recipes use basic ingredients. I made the apple dumplings. Although I needed to seriously adjust the cooking time, the flavor of the finished dessert was delicious. It is something that I will make again. I have several more recipes marked to try. The recipes are simple enough that they can be made with children.

Kate McDonald, who is a granddaughter of L.M. Mongomery, author of Anne of Green Gables and the other books in the series, has compiled recipes that seem out of another age, and most definitely seem true-to-form as to what Anne Shirley and her friends were eating at the time the books were written. The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook: Charming Recipes from Anne and Her Friends in Avonlea is a delightful read, as well as a cookbook, and will inspire readers to go back and read the series again. There is a charming quote from one of the novels on each recipe page.

When we love characters in a series like most of us love Anne Shirley, it seems appropriate that we would like to prepare dishes that Anne and her friends ate. This is a charming cookbook, with recipes that are actually appealing and simple to make. The directions are easy to understand, and the beautiful photographs take readers back to another simpler time. Mrs. Irving’s Delicious Shortbread is decadent and buttery; it has minimal ingredients and turns out perfectly. There is a recipe for Old Fashioned Lemonade, as well as fancy egg salad sandwiches topped with herb butter. The Sunshiny Corn Soufflé is excellent, and the Afternoon Ruby Tea Biscuits are perfect for an old fashioned tea. The Shepherd’s Pie is very typical, and there is also a good recipe for vegetable soup. Most of the recipes will appeal to both children and adults, and are simple to make.

All told, The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook is charming, and with its literary ties to the wonderful books, would make an excellent gift or coffee-table book.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

YOUR FAVORITE BOOK FROM CHILDHOOD IS NOW A COOKBOOK (4 STARS)

If you grew up reading the marvelous Anne of Green Gables series chances are you're going to adore this cookbook. Peppered with story quotes, charming illustrations, and beautiful photographs this is a cookbook that would make a lovely gift for a fan. I rarely use but have a wide collection of fandom and pop culture-centric cookbooks so I can't vouch for whether the recipes are actually practical or delicious. My guess is that if the author paid as much close attention to the recipes as she did the little details they're probably great.

Whether you pick it up as a gift for a lover of all things Avonlea or for your own shelf it's a beautiful book.

If you know anyone in your life that LOVES Anne of Green Gables? This is the book to get for them!

Its really cute, the pictures are nice, the recipes great and generally just a beautiful little thing to add to anyone that loves the actual stories!

The entire book is made up in a very "Anne" way -if you know what i mean- very fitting to the books and is separated by the different Anne books and the recipes mentioned as well as a little section of Montgomery's favourite recipes.

As i said its really nicely done, the recipes are great and if you see this and think it might be for you or someone you know? IT WILL BE!

The only think i found a bit disappointing is how few recipes there actually are and i think that it might have been nice to add a few more "old-fashioned" recipes into at the end of the book, for example of complimentary recipes to try as well or something after Montogmery's favourite recipe section. That would have been nice and added a little something to the book and make it a bit more worth it.

Still overall a fantastic book and i am sure a must get for any Anne fan!

This is a must have for fans of Anne of Green Gables. This collection of recipes was originally published in 1985, but there is an additional section of recipes from L. M. Montgomery's personal collection that has been added.

There is a short introduction by Kate MacDonald , who is L. M. Montgomery's granddaughter, followed by a section with cooking tips and terms. The end of the book also contains a small biography of L. M. Montgomery. The recipes in the book are broken down as follows:
1. Recipes from Anne of Green Gables
2. Recipes from Anne of Avonlea
3. Recipes from Anne of Windy Poplars
4. Recipes from L. M. Montgomery's Kitchen

There is a total of 31 delicious, easy to prepare recipes. Vibrant full-color photographs accompany each recipe. I would recommend this cookbook to fans of the movies or books, as well as anyone looking for a few new tasty treats.

I received this as a free ARC from Quarto Publishing Group - Race Point Publishing on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is an incredibly sweet and thoughtful cookbook. The Anne of Green Gables book series/movies impacted my childhood heavily, and to be able to prepare dishes from the cookbook is amazing. I love that each recipe has the related excerpt of the books which helps bring back memories as you prepare the dish. My favorite recipes so far include the Puffy Apple Dumplings, Dianna Berry's Favorite Raspberry Cordial (of course!), Marilla's Plum Pudding, and so many more!

I loved the original Cookbook that came out when I was growing up, and this one is just as magical. The sections are divided by 3 of the books, and the fourth section has recipes from L.M. Montgomery herself! I loved the raspberry tarts and can't wait to try out the others! This is an absolute must-have for any Anne-fans!

Reader, you know they had me at Anne.

I was happy to receive a courtesy copy of this beautifully illustrated reissue of Kate Macdonald's 1985 book, The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook. I was even happier to see that many of the recipes are gluten-free or readily adapted to gluten-free! And I was also happy to see that celery and cucumber are evidently popular in the P.E.I. kitchen, since I love both.

This book is clearly targeted to middle grade to high school age readers who are learning to cook. The recipes are simple enough so that any child age eleven or older, with a bit of low-key supervision, will be able to have success. (I'm pretty sure grown-ups can enjoy them, too.) There is a brief set of useful tips at the start and a glossary for common cooking terms like folding, kneading and simmering. Photos for each dish help the young cook visualize how the finished dish should look.

These recipes are drawn from foods and beverages mentioned in the books Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of Windy Poplars. I've only tried two of the recipes thus far (Raspberry Cordial and the best and yummiest egg salad sandwich, using gluten-free bread and goat butter or ghee!) but a number of the recipes, while simple and homespun, look quite lovely. The vegetable soup is up next for me (part of my Instant Pot project, actually. But that's going to be another review...) And who knows, if I can figure out how to adapt it, Anne's Liniment Cake might be after that. (Sans Liniment, I promise.) Then I long to try to adapt the Rebecca Dew-inspired Orange Angel Cake. (Yes, that's a lot of eggs to be experimenting with. And you guys wonder why I want to raise chickens?)

This is a beautiful, if slim, cookbook, already available in hardcover or Kindle edition.

Book received from NetGalley.

I had the original printed version of this book in the early 2000's, but I never really used it. The recipes were interesting but with how they were sorted I couldn't find certain recipes that were mentioned in specific books in the series. In this version they fixed that issue and I liked it much better. In these pages you'll find the cordial that Anne set Diana drunk on, the monkey face cookies that Davy and Dora loved, as well as Miss Ellen's pound cake. Unfortunately the recipes don't go further than foods that are found in "Anne of Windy Poplars" though we do get a section of recipes from L.M. Montgomery's kitchen. This is a definite buy for anyone who has ever wondered just what are they talking about when they mention specific foods in the series.

A delightful cookbook that will be cherished!

I very much enjoyed THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES COOKBOOK. Reading this treasure took me back to a loving place, and made me long for simpler times.

This book starts with an introduction from author Kate Macdonald, daughter of Anne of Green Gables author, L.M. Montgomery. While this cookbook will be a favorite among adults, in the introduction, Ms. Macdonald is clearly speaking to young (child) cooks, with instructions for safety, and cleanliness (though good reminders for us adult cooks as well). The introduction is followed by helpful cooking tips and terms.

Each chapter of THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES COOKBOOK is based on a different series. Chapter 1 - Recipes from Anne of Green Gables, Chapter 2 – Recipes from Anne of Avonlea, Chapter 3 – Recipes from Anne of Windy Poplars, and finally Chapter 4 – Recipes from L.M. Montgomery’s Kitchen. Every chapter is filled with beautiful color photos of most of the recipes, along with quaint sights. Also, on just about every page, are quotes from the beloved characters of the series.

Some of the recipes you’ll find are . . . Puffy Apple Dumplings, Gilbert’s Hurry-Up Dinner, Marilla’s Plum Pudding, Miss Stacy’s Baked Macaroni, White Sands Scalloped Tomatoes, Poetical Egg Salad Sandwiches, Thick and Creamy Vegetable Soup, Orange Angel Cake, Fire and Dew Sweet Potatoes, Cavendish Catsup, and so many more!

I can’t stress how much I loved THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES COOKBOOK. This heart and tummy warming cookbook is a much have for cooks off all ages, and of course, fans of Anne of Green Gables. Pick up a copy for yourself, and for a friend. You’re going to adore it!

Although I haven't read any of the books from the Anne of the green gables series, I liked getting to know some of the story through the recipes. The edition is gorgeous <3. Of course I am going to prepare(or at least try) some of the recipes of the book.

One of the absolute delights of my childhood was discovering the Anne of Green Gables set of books by Lucy Maud Montgomery.  They were my favourite books for years!  And to be honest, although I haven't read one in forever, I still have the entire series and it wouldn't take much for me to be again drawn into the world of Matthew and Marilla, Diana Barry and Gilbert Blythe and the adorable red-haired, high-spirited feisty girl known as Anne of Green Gables.  And that's Anne with an E and don't you forget it!

These books taught me so much about the world - about love, about friendship and family, about how it's okay to be different (and how to embrace that difference).  Oh, and how I wasn't the only person in the world who constantly had to spell their name to people to ensure that they got it right!

So I was overjoyed to find out that there is an Anne of Green Gables Cookbook.

First up, this book is gorgeous!  The illustrations and the photos are beautiful.  And all of the recipes are referenced to the exact place in the books where they occurred..which a pedant like me totally loves!

I choose to make Anne's Poetical Egg Salad sandwiches.  And they were delicious.

OMG...these were so good!

I think sometimes it's hard when blogging to present something as simple as these sandwiches because.....well...it's egg salad right and everyone knows how to make that.  so why bother?  But this is also real food, the kind of food I want to make. Eat. Repeat.

And you can also fancy these up.  The version you are looking at has some chives in the mix.  It's great with lettuce in the sandwich.  To make it really fancy, a slice of smoked salmon is divine!

I adored this book almost as much as the novels that inspired it!  There are some other wonderful recipes including Anne's Liniment cake, Diana's raspberry cordial, vanilla ice cream, scalloped tomatoes and vegetable soup. I can't wait to try more!

Thank you to Kate Macdonald, L.M. Montgomery, Quarto Publishing Group, and Race Point Publishing and NetGalley for this free honest reviewer copy of The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook: Charming Recipes from Anne and Her Friends in Avonlea."

I have loved Anne and Avonlea since I was a very small child, pouring over first the tv show and then devouring the novels at such a fast pace. I have such a deep love for all the young, precocious heroines I fell in love with, every bit of their lives as they grew up, and all the gorgeous world around them that it happened within.

This cookbook was originally published in 1985, and so this version is a reprinting updating a good portion of the interior, adding a more modern spin on it while making sure to hold tight to the charm and class that belonged to all things Montgomery. It's relatively short compared to its contemporaries coming out, but it makes up for that with amazing amounts of charm.

The chapter titles are incredibly darling (from several time periods of Anne's life: Green Gables, Avonlea, the Windy Poplars). There are even recipes from the kitchen of L.M. Montgomery's own kitchen, which made my heart swoon. Several of the recipes are, also, all familiar titles and names, and you'll definitely find yourself remembering where in the books these dishes were mentioned and enjoyed.

It was, also, deeply touching to read the short stories that accompanied the recipes, knowing that they were written for L.M. Montgomery's own grandchildren. I will be keeping a copy of this and gifting it with the novels to children all through my family.
