Not what I was expecting, and I stopped after 40%. I was interested in getting some different ideas about happiness and how I could think differently about my thoughts and actions. I found the book repetitive with just a few messages that were said again and again in different ways.

However, I did get some takeaways:
* we all started life babies with nothing, so we've already learned and experienced lots, we can build on this
* comparing yourself to others or judging them holds back your development
* there are always new opportunities and improvements, you may need to shift your thinking to see them

This book looks at happiness and how we can achieve more of it by giving rather than taking. There is countless scientific evidence to show that generosity and having an outward mindset is part of the happiness equation.

This book would suit those who are new to reading about happiness, however it tended to be repetitive and focused on one aspect of becoming happy.

In The Starting Point of Happiness, author Ryuho Okawa awakens us to the true spiritual values of our life; he beautifully illustrates, in simple but profound words, how we can find purpose and meaning in life and attain happiness that lasts forever. Okawa stresses the importance of cultivating and polishing our mind as the mind is the only thing we can take with us when return to the other world; we have to leave behind everything we thought to be valuable in this world. This book empowers spiritual seekers to find the strength in the midst of difficult times, to savor the joy of giving love to others, and to be in tune with the will of the great universe. This self-renewing guide to positive living will awaken us to the spiritual truths, infuse us with hope, strength and fulfillment, and lead us to walk the path to authentic, lasting happiness.

Ryuho Okawa shares the right view of how to understand your true soul and how happiness is your natural birth right.

There is a lot to learn from this book and a lot to consider. This book is definitely thought provoking and definitely challenging for readers to examine their own lives.

The title is exactly as it should be. The contents in the book are deep for what could be considered a self help book but the audience of this book is for anyone who is of any spiritual background. There is much to learn about happiness and much to learn about ourselves.

I recommend this book for anyone who is curious about the subject of happiness or anyone who is struggling to find happiness. There is so much to learn about the topic and there is more in the subject to control than you think.

The Starting Point of Happiness shows us that to have happiness we must give love without expecting anything in return. I liked this book, but found it repetitive at times.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

It is a book written by a person who talks to spirits and tells me every page that. The book is very repetitive, I succeeded to reach 22% of the book. I recommend it for those that are more religious probably. It is not necessary a bad book but is is not for everyone. It includes also some interesting thoughts and ideas besides the religion part.

Interesting book with good short chapters, easy to pick up and dip into. It has some good concepts in and is written in the style of the old self help classics. You are aware that it is a translation and has been written with a specific culture in mind, but it is still a good read, Books like this can only spread more love and happiness in the world. Thank you
