A great book by a fantastic author. The writing is excellent and the mystery keeps you turning the pages. Characters are well developed. Highly recommend.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

This book was an amazing journey. Well written, exciting and well worth the time spend with Verity, Frankie and Ellis. Get your cup of coffee ready, brake out the chocolates and grab a comfy chair. You are going to be in that chair for awhile....

I loved this! Anything written by Angie Fox is always a winner for me. The only thing missing was more Lucy. Just love that skunk. This was all around fabulous with Verity and Frankie in the midst of murder on a train both past and present. Verity is sure to be a hit for a long time to come with new and established fans of the series.

5 stars
I am in love with this series...super love it...
Verity and Ellis just want to have a nice quiet vacation, but nooooo, her destiny is to always be involved with ghosts.
This book reminded me of the famous Murder on the Orient Express, which i love, obviously.
As always, Verity puts herself in danger but always solves the mystery.
I really hate Ellis' brother, when is he going to get it? I really do think that in this book he finally saw reason, but you never know...
Can't wait for the next book, which I hope is soon...pleaseeee

I am a huge fan of Angie Fox. I 've never read a book of her's that disappoints. Verity is a favourite character now for sure. She writes such a great combination of mystery, humour etc. that I'm always entertained.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

There was so much more I would have liked to have seen with this story. It felt rushed and forced. The basics were good though. The story overall just felt weak and the characters were very one- dimensional. I had to force myself to finish this one and I normally love this author.

Another great addition to a fun paranormal series. can't wait for the next one.

This cozy mystery is sorta like Murder on the Orient Express, only with a bit of a twist - there are two murders, one in the physical case and then one in the ghost world. It is a fun and exciting world that has been created here. The author. here writes very well, and sets out to have a fun storyline, Her characters are great characters, very detailed and real (even though some are really dead!). It is hard to put down and easy to read and forget how long you have been reading!. I highly recommend this book!

I love this series. It keeps getting better & better. If you love paranormal mysteries you'll love it too.
Going on a historical train trip seems so fun & romantic however you can't leave the ghosts home & here start the mysteries. There's a double murder, one in the past & one in the present & both must be solved before the present train meets the fate of the first train. It was nice to see the relationship with the ex's family improving with everyone working together to solve the mysteries. I can't wait to see Ellis & Verity's romance go to the next level. I was given the opportunity to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley and the publisher.

love this series, it's like a bag of potato chips - can't put it down! The exciting plot is the real star of this book. A well crafted homage to the iconic Murder on the Orient Express, the rip-roaring dual plot combined a long ago ghostly unsolved murder with a current day murder under similar circumstances. Fast-paced with an ending that left my heart racing, it was thoroughly enjoyable and memorable and I admit, I was surprised by whodunit and why. It was an exceptionally well done mystery that even Agatha would appreciate!
The ghostly victims of the first derailment returning to the scene of te crime (complete with a Poirot-esque police inspector!) and the thrilling solve of the first case was entertaining (I loved how The Green Lady redeemed herself at the end!) but it was the modern day murder that tugged at my heart, thanks to the great characters, I love how they've progressed as the series goes on; all of them have grown to become vivid and realistic and darn it, so likable (even Virginia!) They're all the reason I eagerly come back with each new book.

I would like to thank Moose Island Books for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book, via Netgalley, in exchange for an open and honest review.
Okay, I am still catching up! I finished this book back in January and am only now popping in the review.
Here and now I will state I am a HUGE fan of ‘The Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery Series’ and so did a little happy dance when I was approved to read this ARC of ‘Murder on the Sugarland Express’.
This is the 6th book in ‘The Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery Series’ and gels perfectly with the other books in the series. It’s not a rehash or a cookie cutter repeat of the same stuff - she see ghosts, solves mysteries - and anyone who says that needs to be banned from reading. End of. ;-)
Although the main characters are still the same ones we’ve been reading throughout the series, ‘Murder on the Sugarland Express’ is an adventure on its own. Characters are developing, relationships - good and bad - are progressing and there are ghosts who are there to often hinder more than help… or so it sometimes seems. The same light hearted, tongue in cheek southern style moments are there too and they simply add to the richness of it all.
The descriptions of the places visited by Verity, as well as the train itself - simply gorgeous and proof research has been done by Ms Fox to ensure we the reader is getting what we came for.
There’s not so much from Lucy the skunk in this book… but not all the books can centre around such a little cutie. Instead we get to delve into Verity’s relationship with her boyfriend Ellis, her ex-fiancé Beau and their mother. It was interesting to see how her interaction with these three characters progressed and I feel there is a story of two to follow to continue on to explain why people are starting to act the way they are.
Or is that just wishful thinking, as I really want Ms Fox to WRITE MORE!? ;-)
I have to add that I also enjoyed the few nail biting moments laced through the book. I won’t go and spoil things by describing them here… but well played Ms Fox, thank you of robbing me of my sleep for a few nights as I simply HAD to finish! :-D
Would I recommend this book to others?
Yes I would. It’s a cosy crime/ mystery and so more light hearted and “fluffy” than other crime series I read. But it was still a very enjoyable story.
However, I really would recommend people go and get/ read the first 5 books in ‘The Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery Series’ first. I suppose you could read ‘Murder on the Sugarland Express’ as a standalone… but you would be doing yourself and Ms Fox an injustice. Just go get them, read them and thank me later, okay?
Would I buy this book for myself?
Most definitely! I absolutely LOVE this series and ‘Murder on the Sugarland Express’ was as good a read as the others have been, and so am happy to go buy a copy to enjoy.
In summary: A continuation of the thrills, chills, and love in Verity Long’s life. I highly recommend this book.

I love all of the Angie Fox books!!! Interesting stories and fast easy reading. My perfect go to books when i want to just relax and enjoy a read!!!!!

A train murder mystery set on a restored steam train set in the Tennessee mountains.. What begins as a romantic get-away quickly turns into murder investigations. Yes, more than one. Throw in a few ghosts, an ex-boyfriend and villains and we’re off. Lots of twists and turns to keep you engaged. Read and see what happens and how it’s resolved.
This is the first book in the series that I have read. I enjoyed it.

Advanced reader copy (ACR) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
An enjoyable, light hearted, funny read, with a soft suspenseful mystery! This book is a nod to Murder on the Orient Express but with ghosts, and Southern ghosts at that.
It's my first book read by this author, whom I've been wanting to read for sometime now. It is the 6th book in a series, but the author briefly covers enough of the back story so that I didn't feel lost or confused. Her writing flows easily and her descriptions are vivid. I could picture the translucent ghosts and the colorful train passengers, along with the opulence of the train suites and the beautiful mountain scenery.
Murder on the Sugarland Express is a great beach or vacation read, perfect for traveling or just sitting home by a cozy fire.

This is one of my favorite cozy series. Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries have Verity and Ellis along with ghost Frankie and his new ghost girlfriend solving another murder. You can read this as a stand alone but all the previous books are fun and add clues to the back stories. Verity discovered Frankie the ghost could travel with her when she put his urn in her pocketbook. Ellis, the local police detective can't see all the ghosts in his girlfriend's life but accepts their help when it comes to crime solving. If you're looking for a fun paranormal series, this is a good one.

This was a great addition to the series, and I continue to enjoy the characters, the romance, and the mystery. This was a nice homage to Agatha Christies Murder on the Orient Express, and I will anxiously waiting for the next installment of Verity.

Murder on the Sugarland Express by Angie Fox is amazing. Her main protagonist, Verity, is a ghost hunter. She helps the ghosts she sees and helps them move into the light. Then, there's the gangster ghost, Frankie, who is attached to the urn that she possesses. Wherever she goes with the urn, Frankie goes to...
Verity and her boyfriend, Ellis, want to escape their town and have a romantic getaway. However, Frankie convinces Verity to let him tag along so he could seduce his lady ghost friend. Then, there's the other ghosts she meets while on the train. The train they're on, is new except for the bell that was rummaged from the original Sugarland Express train. That train had several mishaps, like murder and taking all of its passengers down into the river...so many died that day. Now, with the original bell attached to the new Sugarland Express train, the ghosts are being called back to the living world. There, Verity, Ellis, and Frankie will have their hands full trying to solve the past and current murders. Plus, if they're not fast enough, they may all die in a train wreck...
Angie Fox sure knows how to engage readers like myself. I was hooked. The plot kept me guessing, laughing, and rooting for Verity and Frankie. Ellis was a major help in solving the murders too. Being a cop, Ellis, is always answering his calling. The romance between Ellis and Verity felt real. I love this couple. No matter what happens they stick through it. Overall, I highly recommend this paranormal romance mystery to all.

I have read the first two books in this series and enjoyed parts of them, so I was interested to review this 6th book in the series. This book had the charm that I enjoyed in the first two book, but I felt like the train setting hindered the plot. I had a very Agatha Christie feel and the time limit to solving the case gave it an excitement factor, which were both positives. Yet, the lack of characters made the outcome more obvious to the reader and almost made it seem repetitive because there where only a few places for the characters to travel to. They only had the travels on the train and the train cars to investigate (it was not a big train). I ended up rating it kind of low, only 2.5, but I think if you really liked the first 5 books on the series you'd probably enjoy it!

I received his from NetGalley to read and review. Having read the other books in the series, I was eager to read this one. However, I am trying to figure out why I did not feel so good about this one as most of the other reviewers. I may be tired of the series and its characters or I may just not see humor in some of the silly/humorous things that happen in this one.
In this book, Verity Long and her current squeeze, Ellis, take a trip on a vintage train through the Tennessee mountains. The train carries a lot of history with it, but Verity is determined to enjoy this R&R without ghostly interference or reliving the history. The ghosts and the history, however, do not want to be left out of this adventure, so end up being a big part of it. The history of the train reveals that a young woman was stabbed to death in a locked compartment of the train nearly a hundred years ago, and the Belgian detective on the case is still pursuing it after all this time. In this book, history repeats itself, and Verity finds herself and Ellis trying to piece together the clues in a copy-cat murder while figuring out what exactly happened this time and so long ago.
The book was filled with the usual quirky characters, both ghosts and human. I though it interesting that Verity’s former beau and the brother of Ellis as well as their difficult-to-take mother were included as passengers/owners of the Sugarland Express. I found this inclusion a bit much, and the characters, especially Verity’s former beau, almost a detraction and too much to take with the rest of the story unfolding. True to form, Verity’s ghost and untethered house tenant, Frankie, the former mobster, is up to his regular antics. This time, however, he has a female ghost he is pursuing and spends a lot of effort stumbling along trying to be a romantic—which I got a bit tired of as the story progressed. Still, as I said, the characters are well done. I do think a bit more back story could have been included for anyone who has not read the other books, so this one would be a better stand-alone. The story is loosely patterned after Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, and does a god job at mimicking that. After reading it, as I said, I am still trying to figure out what I did not like about this book. It will appeal to the readers of the series or to any reader who enjoys a good, humorous take on murder mysteries as well as some good paranormal activity.
