Thank you to netgalley and Bookouture for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

DS Anna Gwynne is working within a small cold case unit asked to help with closure of cases. She has struck up the unlikely affection of a serial killer in prison who she is interviewing for closure for families and he is able to shed light on a current missing person case and it’s links to an aged case where the accused has been acquitted.

Can Anna save herself and solve the case before her own life is in danger? This was quite a slow starter in setting the scene and reflected the current police methods against the old boys from decades ago. Soon I was really enjoying it and flying through it. Can’t wait to read the sequel

A very creepy procedural with tons of suspects and red herrings and a twist ending that I didn't see coming. Detective Anna Gwynne always seems to be smiling, but her face belies her determination. She is tough as nails. This is the first book in a series, so we are introduced to her full team. There are several cases that may or may not be related, including a cold one from eighteen years earlier. Some suspects are so perfect that they seem all but guilty. And yet... Anna is not convinced. The culprit really surprised me, as well as other characters who may not be as evil as they seem. Or are they? Some parts were actually very disturbing and others were unbearably suspenseful. This is a promising start.

An absorbing new crime series with a cleverly written, complicated plot.
The only reason for 4* instead of 5 is the current trend towards the lead detective becoming a victim; practically every author in the genre is following this route and it's becoming tedious.

This is a good police procedural book, the ending is left open to become a series of DC Anna Gwynn books.
Anna, who is a strong female lead, looks into a case that mirrors an old investigation, with little to go on she turns to the original person Hector who was convicted of the past murder.
While I think the plot was ok I felt it wasnt delivered as well as it could of been, the story felt a little flat without a good twist. This being side I would still read the next in the series as I feel there is a strong character in Anna and Hector that could be delevloped more.

Come Out to Play is a good British cop procedural if you like this genre. When new DNA evidence indicates that convicted killer, Hector Shaw, may know something about the murder of a young girl, Detective Anna Gwynne has no choice but to play his twisted game. A parallel investigation into the rape and murder of two young girls almost seventeen years apart sees Anna turning once again to Shaw for answers. After all, who knows the mind of a killer better than one who’s been there himself?

I will be interested to see where Anna’s next cases take her. Hector’s letter to Anna shows that he's not finished with her yet. Also, i kind of feel there is more to Anna's story with ex-boyfriend Timothy.

A girl is dead, brutally stabbed to death and most of the local police force believe it’s the same offender who committed an identical killing years before. While they pursue every avenue to see the man they believe guilty locked away for good, Detective Anna Gwynne is sure her colleagues have the wrong man. She needs to find the real killer, and fast. To do that, she’ll have to sell her soul to the devil and get inside the mind of convicted killer Hector Shaw. I really liked Anna, she was strong and independent and not afraid to follow her own instincts. A strong, British police procedural
