I love Rachel Hollis and all that she stands for. This book really made me look at my life and make better decisions. Rachel really opens her life to her readers and shares the good and the bad and in order to help each of us. I can't wait to read her next book and apply it to my life.

First, thank you to Netgalley, Thomas Nelson and Rachel Hollis for sending me this ebook.

I had seen quite a lot about this book online, but I wasn't interested in reading it, primarily because I didn't like the cover. So when I chose to do the Professional Book Nerds 2019 Reading Challenge, which required a "Book with a cover you hate," this book fit the bill.

Full disclosure, though: This was not my first choice for that category ... more like my third. The cover I hate the most I won't read (a) because I hate the cover and (b) I've read the summary and it's depressing AF.

I enjoyed this book, for the most part. There were chapters that I could readily identify with and thought I could learn from, as well as chapters that I didn't. Not long into it, I thought of two people I knew who could possibly enjoy/benefit from it as well, and that's when I read the other reviews on Goodreads.

They were harsh, to say the least, and I'll admit they did spoil some of my enjoyment when I returned to reading. Some of those points I could see as valid, but also I doubt those 1 star reviewers actually finished the book, since the issues they brought up were eventually addressed.

In short, this wasn't the best self-help book I've ever read, but it did have value and interest FOR ME. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's for you.

#PBNREAD2019 Book 8 of 12: Book with a cover you hate.

Really enjoyed this! Rachel has a way of being honest, vulnerable, and that girlfriend who is going to tell you like it is! Remind you of what you can do!

I will admit that I was on the fence about this book. I had heard so many amazing things and nearly gotten a copy so many times and let me just say I will be purchasing my own physical copy of this book!

This book is AMAZING and something all women, both young and old, should read! Although it is more directed towards mothers and wives in some chapters, the takeaway can be for anyone. The way this book was written is for both married or single, old and young, as the chapters all have their own point. For example, I did start to read the chapters directed towards motherhood but found I just couldn't relate so I skipped them but the nice thing about this book and some of the chapters is simply this: If it doesn't apply to you it's made in a way that you can either read it or just move on without missing crucial information or points!

Right from the start I knew this book was going to be amazing. How? Well I encountered a quote like this in the opening letter:

"The truth? You, and only you, are ultimately responsible for who you become and how happy you are. That's the takeaway."

I just love that! Getting right to the point before the book has officially started! The way Hollis has structured the book and the chapters is brilliant! I love the whole approach of 'here is a struggle that I, and many other women, have but this is how to deal with it!' and at the end of each chapter she provides ways that helped her or would have helped her in these moments in her life!

I enjoyed this book. It was enlightening and full of useful reminders to brighten our lives. Hollis is great and tells her personal story in an engaging way.

I really liked the format of this book and it is definitely one of the more motivating I've read in this genre. Her story is definitely inspiring and I like that she wrote this book from a place of vulnerability. I don't always have the attention span for these self-help motivational books despite loving the concept behind them, but this one really held my interest (and it was relatively short and to the point, which was a huge bonus). It has Christian aspects to it (which I never mind, being religious myself), but not in an overbearing sense at all. I really think any woman would get a lot out of reading this though there are several chapters focused on the grind of motherhood (which I loved).

Every word is real and accurate. This book is a MUST for every female, regardless of where you are at in life. I can't wait to read the next one!

I appreciate the advice and stories Hollis shares. Though much of the content did not apply to me, so it was hard for me to relate. A lot of the book is her personal stories and for females in specific situations, not just general advice. In all, there is positivity to her writing, though.

not at all what I expected but a very worthwhile read. This goes way deeper than most self-help/positivity/motivational books I have read - there are some very heavy moments and its not always easy to read, but ultimately its very inspiring and quite fascinating - Rachel has really had a wide span of experiences and seems like a geniune and lovely lady. There are many many references to God and the bible but didn't bother me.

I wish I had loved it, but it lacked something for me.
I think it must have been the fact I've no husband, no kids, and a lot of the book centered around all that. So the book itself was really good, I just couldn't relate to it all.

Hollister takes readers into her life and encourages all women to be proactive with their lives! It's a great, quick nonfiction read that all will be able to take something away from.

This is wonderfully honest memoir from a women who has shaped modern internet culture and in this she shines a light on many of the misconceptions and lies that we allow to fog our mines and prevent us from living our best lives. This book fits in well with the current modern trend of essay collections and memoirs as opposed to traditional biographies but is also stands out as unique to the author's voice and her laying herself bare.

Girl, wash your face is a G-R-E-A-T book. Lots of great advice. Rachael Hollis holds nothing back. You will get a front seat view into her life. EVERY girl, young or old, must read this. You will only come out with great info. Happy reading!! :)

This is a great book to start your year off.

As a 15 year old girl with multiple mental health disorders, I certainly felt uplifted. I was encouraged to do more and be more. Though this book doesn’t specifically talk about mental health (it is mentioned), I still connected with what it was saying. Society constantly tells you what you should look like, how you should act, no matter how much I try I will never live up to that image and I don’t want to. Thanks to this book I have learned so much of the illusion of what society tells you. I don’t want to live by other people’s opinions, I want to find myself and be proud of who i am.
Thank you Rachel Hollis for showing how hard life can be and yet you pulled through it, I’m looking forward to finding the light at the end of the tunnel. I know I have a lot to get through but you have proved that it’s possible.
Thanks so much

This book was warm, funny and inspiring (aka. everything I needed in a book). I had a smile on my face the entire time and could never bring myself to put it down!

First, I didn't finish the book. I was very close to the end, but by then I had skipped some chapters; specifically when it came to raising children (as mine are already raised). However, I do feel I read enough to write a bit of a review.

I'm not big on hearing that "your faith in God" is part of the path to happiness. I don't think that faith plays a part in helping a person deal with stress from (for example) work and your issues there. Bill paying and having money to pay those bills. Trying to find love (which is kind of addressed in the book).

Further, I don't think I'm the audience for this book. I'm 49 and single with grown children. This seems geared to those who love "mommy blogs" and who are still raising children. I'm more into inspirational type blogs or authors (for instance, Brene Brown).

She is a great writer and does well on her personal stories, so reading the book itself was not difficult. I simply could not relate to many of the instances and situations in this book at this point in my life.

Let me start by saying that I have not heard or read about the author before I picked the book, and I did that only because of the hype it created in the blogosphere.

In Girl, Wash Your Face, Rachel talks about how the lies we tell ourselves hold us back and takes us through her own grief and trauma. ‘Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business’ is a quote we should all remember to tell ourselves. #GirlWashYourFace

I liked Rachel’s simple and no nonsense approach to the subject and her enthusiastic writing. And I never felt I was reading a memoir or a self book, the whole book gave a feeling like I was reading a blog and getting to know the blogger slowly and personally.

The author doesn’t offer great advices or groundbreaking insights, yet I am glad this was my first book of the year. Yes it was inspirational as it was supposed to be, but this is more of a ‘things that worked for me’ kinda list so take it with a grain of salt.

Final thought: Cheerful and motivational. Take it with a grain of salt.

Recommended to: Twenty something women entrepreneurs especially in a non traditional job.

Warning: May come off as spiritual and religious tone.

Rachel Hollis's book "Girl, Wash Your Face" is just the book I needed to start 2019 . It's one of those books that made me think about my life, the things I do, and it was a highly entertaining read!

A few months ago, I heard about 'The Last 90 Days' on social media. I read up on it, and was inspired to make changes to my life RIGHT NOW and not wait until the first of the year. I started waking up earlier, drinking more water, going to the gym, and most importantly, I started a gratitude journal. It changed my perspective on a lot of things I take for granted. I started following Rachel Hollis. I love her upbeat personality and she shared a lot of great tips and advice. When I got the opportunity to read this book, I jumped on it.

Each chapter is about a lie we're told, or we've learned to tell ourselves. The chapter expands on how to beat the negative crap and change your life FOR YOU! It's a motivating read that made me want to go out and conquer the world- or at least my own life! I found Rachel's stories inspiring. This book challenged me to be better, but also not to be so hard on myself when I fail. Laced with humor, relatable stories, and ideas that will resonate and help most of us, I recommend this book to all women seeking change and acceptance. It's a must read!

It was enjoyable! However, I realize I am her Target demographic: a straight, white, middle class, Christian female. My mind struggled between really enjoying the book and the advice, and this on how this book has privileged written all over it.
