I believe my expectations were a bit higher for this book. Can't really say it was a disappointment , it's just...it doesn't bring anything new under the sun for me.

Thank you to Justyn Comer and Net Gallery for a providing me with a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I give this book 3 1/2 stars.

Overall I enjoyed this book, particularly the honesty and humour that Justyn brought to it. It was an easy read, yet offered some valuable insights. I would have liked to have given a higher rating but I felt the book fell short in a few areas for me, however I would recommend this book to people who are dubious about the benefits of meditation or those who think that meditation is for other people, not them. This is a book I will be recommending to a friend who wants me to teaches her how to meditate as Justyn describes this very well yet so simply.

I was interested in reading this book as I am a regular meditator, who has recently and frustratingly fallen out of my daily habit. I was hoping to find some more in depth answers into how to sit when resistance is very strong. I practice Vipassana meditation and would have loved to have read Justyn's book prior to learning to meditate as he writes with such a gentle, non judgemental manner on how easy, yet difficult it is to sit. I loved the honesty and humour he uses to demonstrate his humanness and how meditation can ease our shortcomings in daily life.

I really enjoyed the first chapter of Justyn Comer's book, he is able to take something which he himself describes as easy, yet difficult, and demonstrate it in an easy to grasp manner. The middle chapters of the book describe many of the different ways meditation is useful in dialysis life and goes on to give examples how and why.

I felt the middle chapters of this book drifted off, offering too much information on the how of the chapter subject, rather than retaining specific focus on meditation. This began to feel like a series of 101 pop psych reviews at times, which is what lead me to give a lower rating than I originally felt. I felt each individual chapter was worthy and important, especially for trying to win over the more cynical person, to try meditation. However, I feel the chapters could have been more condensed, with a short, succinct example given rather than the drawn out examples provided.

I was also disappointed with the last chapter, as I was hoping for guidance and examples on how I could get my meditation habit back on track when I meet with continual resistance. Justyn gives a good overview of how to form habits and similar psychology research but did not address in any greater depth how to address the actual resistance (he touched on it in the first chapter).

I do acknowledge that Justyn's audience is probably for those who need to be convinced to meditate in the first place. I have have tried to rate this book accordingly. The first chapter of the book is a superb account of how to begin. The remainder of the book is a useful account of why to begin for those who question the why.

I am grateful for the opportunity to read this book and I will be recommending it to a friend who wants to learn how to meditate as Justyn has described it so much better than I could hope to.

I really like how the author described the subject of meditation from a very practical point of view. This is the first book I’ve read on the subject and I enjoyed it very much.

The structure of the book also makes sense since the author explained what meditation is, why it is important, and how to do it.
