I enjoyed reading this book because the approach and writing style of Ryuho Okawa is multi-layered in that it reaches your heart, mind body soul and spirit causing you to stop fighting reality. It is okay to grow through the growing pains, we were built to accomplish this and to do it with great precision. In a nutshell, we are far more than we have become. Bottom line, keep going!

I was deeply disappointed in this title. Concepts were vague, over-simplified, largely unexplored and stereotypical. I don't think that there is anything new here.

Since September is Self-Improvement Month, I am sharing a review of The Strong Mind. This book is ideal for people who are dealing with challenges in life and would like to identify some strategies based on another person's personal opinion. This book is not based on research, so readers, like myself, who enjoy research-based approaches, may not enjoy this book as much.

The author, Ryuho Okawa, is the founder of Happy Science Group. Through this endeavor, he trains people on how to continue living despite being in a bottomless pit of sorrow.

Okawa appeals to the reader by using anecdotes and his life to illustrate how to maneuver through life's challenges. Regardless of the crisis, Okawa believes that you can transform your life by maintaining your mental strength. The stories that Okawa share are very personal, but he does an ideal job of tying the lessons that should be learned from the stories to his recommended strategies. I wouldn't say that this book is a self-help book, but I would share that it's very inspirational and motivational.

When I saw this title was available for reviewing I just clicked. The title sounded like something I would really want to work on: having a strong mind. I have read about procrastination, anxiety, stress, habit building and such, so I was really into this one, but it wasn't exactly what I expected it to be.

In the first chapter, it introduces us to the idea that every 10 years we are faced with a life crisis, the following chapters focus each one on a different subject: "inner maturity", "inner richness" and finally "the power of a strong mind". It is a highly anecdotal book, from the point of view of Ryuho Okawa, founder of Happy Science (a new religious and spiritual movement, according to Wikipedia). This is a book not based on research, it feels more like listening to someone's advice on life, founded by his own believes and experiences. Most of the time the examples are too specific, meant for a Japanese way of life (with couple of them having extra explanations as footnotes) and more aimed at adults in their 40's or older than to any other demographics.

All in all, this was not a self-help book meant for me: it is not scientific, I can't relate to the examples and I disagree in more than one aspect. As an anecdotal type of book, it is inspirational, interesting and with some words of wisdom, but I wouldn't add it to my bookshelf as a self-help book for building inner strength. If you are interested (or belong to) Happy Science, this book can be a great addition because it is easy and fast to read and it contains a lot of anecdotes, specially about Ryuho Okawa’s father.

The author of this book focuses on the importance of building a strong mind vs expecting instant gratification. In doing this, it is easier to deal with stressful situations. I found this book to be informative and interesting. Highly recommend!

I had a feeling I would love this book after I saw its beautiful, elegant, and amazing cover. It turns out I was right that this book would become an inspiring friend. Author Ryuho Okawa writes with strength and true conviction, making it clear to the reader that it's possible to become stronger in order to deal with the inevitable challenges of life. You could say that Ryuho Okawa encourages us to be the tortoise, not the hare! My favorite parts were the personal anecdotes of the author in which he reveals how his life experiences contribute to the overall theme of this book: to build a strong mind and take time in doing so instead of expecting instant gratification. I highly recommend it to everyone because it has universal appeal and extraordinary value to all readers.
