I am embarrassed to admit that I had never heard of any of the pioneering female artists featured in this book, but I am glad Sellers placed them on my radar. They deserve recognition but more than that, their names should come to mind as readily as their male peers' names do when we think of others in their respective fields.

This book is about many over looked women in the design fields. A few names were familiar but the majority of the names were new me even if I knew of their work. Each women has a short biography, samples of their work and a few photographs. The writing is good and I really enjoyed the photographs/illustrations. The author does a good job highlighting why these women deserve more recognition. Enjoy discovering these fascinating women

Underpinning this fascinating celebration of the lives and achievements of these 21 women designers is how so many of those profiled were limited by the constraints imposed on them by society and their chosen profession and how they constantly struggled for acceptance and merited recognition. The word "Design" covers architecture, products (including cars), textiles, digital and the theatre. Although this in many ways represents the archetypal coffee table book with some truly sumptuous photographs the quality of the informative and accessible accompanying text written by Libby Sellers who is an eminent design historian ensures that this is a book to be read rather than just looked at for its fine photographs.

Although I was aware of some of the designers featured it was interesting to be introduced to others I was regrettably until now not aware of and it was heartening to learn that some have been the subject of retrospective exhibitions showcasing their works. Looking again through these pages it is now clear what a profound influence on twentieth century design those featured had and how with particular reference for example to the Bauhaus movement their contribution have been underplayed and marginalised.

The next time I visit one of the buildings featured here for example Zaha Hadid's Riverside Museum building in Glasgow I will certainly see it in a fresh light which is testament to the influence this book had on me. Whether you are a student of design or like me merely appreciative of its influence and appeal I think that you will find this is a rewarding book to have.

I fell ashamed to say I only knew two or three names from this book, but I now know so much more. Books like this one are important because they celebrate women's achievements in usually male dominated areas and they also bring to life extraordinary humans that history forgot them because of their gender.

The book presents short biographies and work projects of architects, designers, graphic designers, artists and amazing women overall. I am so grateful for receiving this book for review.

Rather interesting book on the women who have achieved great and beautiful thing in the art and design world. Some of the names come to mind easily, some not so, to someone who does not follow that field. I found their work and achievement outstanding and there stories of their journeys intriguing.

Women Design celebrates the achievements of some of the great women designers in a patriarchal industry. When asked about important designers, most people only name men. This is an excellent addition then to the books about women architects, industrial designers and textile designers.

The interesting articles include biographies of Althea McNish who brought a 'riot of colour' into the drab post-war world of Britain with her tropical textile designs, Lella Vignelli who took 'modernist designs with European sensibilities' to New York with her husband and Lora Lamm who epitomised the La Bella Vita era with her playful graphic designs. There is also the incredible architect Zaha Hadid.

This is a great book for anyone interested in the world of design. I was a bit confused however by the mention of the Trinidad artist Lord Kitchener. I think that Sellers should have pointed out that this was a stage name for a calypso artist!

I received this free ebook from Net Galley in return for an honest review.

A great collection of women who dedicated their careers to design - whether it be architecture, textile, digital, etc. I learned lot about women I may have heard about in passing or knew nothing about. For educational settings, I fell like this is a nice early research tool for students.

Women Design offers an overview of some of the most prolific women designers of the 20th century. While the format of the book was somehow hard to read on a smartphone the suggestive images of some of these women''s masterpieces is not something to skip.
If only it had more pages...
