This book was ok, maybe I was expecting to much or something different, but it didn't do much for me

The subject of inflammation is a very on-point topic right now. I appreciated Dr. Altshuler’s recommendations, especially regarding meditation. I’m not so sure about some of his dietary advice. However, the book is a definite good start on the subject area and will prompt me to do further research. The author presents his material in a clear, understandable manner which I found easy to read.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review. I thought Dr. Altshuler's book was really well written with some techniques to apply to your life right away to help increase your seratonin levels and Alpha brain waves. I also liked that he frequently stated you should consult with your own physician or health care provider before starting some of these changes or changing your current medications. If you suffer from any of the conditions listed in the book title, I think this book is worth a read.

I thought this book has some very good ideas especially with me dealing with hypertension. I plan on trying some of the ideas and tips discussed that I am keen to put into action.

The author kept true to his introduction and provided a purposely short narrative on his experiences beating metabolic syndrome and depression. I was able to read the entire book in under two hours. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to have anything to act on after reading the book because it was so brief and very specific to his experiences. I would have preferred to have more tips, tricks, or explanations on how I could achieve the same success.

Sorry but I did not learn anything new or different. The style was not to my liking but I am sure others may have more interest reading.

As one of the members of NetGalley I received an ARC of this book. It is written by a psychiatrist whose origins are in the Soviet Union. I do not know if he still lives there but his book is written in a very "American selfhelp book"-style.

Apparently doctor Altshuler himself suffered from all kind of ailments and he blames that to a too high insulin level in his blood. Since he switched to an all meat/fish diet he feels a lot better. I have no idea if this is solid medical advise or just mumbo-jumbo. He might feel a lot better with no sugar and no carbs but what about vitamins from vegetables and fruits? I always thought they are essential to fight things like cancer?

However in the second part of this short book the writer turns towards his own expertise: mental health. Here I could recognise his knowledge. He was explaining about neurotransmitters and serotonin and dopamine and I recognised the treatment a familymember received for depression. He also explained how getting out of your comfort zone is also very healthy for your mental well-being because it increases your energy levels. The function of alphawaves in your brain etcetera. That part of the book I liked a lot more, I would not have minded if he had focussed on his experience in psychiatry. That part was now a bit short.

A 3 stars out of five

Hypertension, Blood Sugar? Depression?: How I Cured Them All by Leonid Altshuler M.D. from BooksGoSocial is a wake up call reminding us to slow down and pay attention to our bodies. Dr. Altshuler gives some very good meditation suggestions to help heal our over stressed and poorly maintained bodies. His suggestions are very easy to understand and follow. Metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance is a real and serious health issue and Dr. Altshuler has written a short, concise book that gives you an alternative way to heal your body in a safe manner.
Thank you to NetGalley, Leonid Altshuler MD. and BooksGoSocial for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you are looking for a book on Metabolic Syndrome, this is not the best choice. There are no detailed scientific studies or any unique information that you can't find on the internet or in other books on the subject. What this book does offer, however, is some practical advice on stress management. I've been curious about meditation and the associated health benefits for a while. Dr. Altshuler provides some simple steps for meditation for beginners and some other tips on lifestyle changes for improved emotional and mental health.

This book was so helpful. I am just starting to regulate the sugar in my diet and to see how it relates to depression and anxiety. This book gave me a great understanding to begin this journey.

Having been given an Arc from netgalley in return for an honest review I found this book to be extremely informative and very useful

This book is a short, but interesting read. As a sufferer of Metabolic Syndrome I found myself nodding in places. Dr Alshuler describes the syndome in a concise and understandable way and also explains the steps that worked for him. He says all the way through that people should get checked over by their own doctor and that what worked for him might not work for you. Stress is a major part of Metabolic Syndrome and Dr Alshuler gives some, seemingly simple, yet very difficult to practice, ways of relieving it.

An erudite book that is very useful in this day and age.

I'm not a huge fan of self-help books, because usually I find them quite boring, preachy and not helpful at all. More often then not after reading self-help books I feel even worse than before.

However, I still not giving up and trying to find something, that could help me feel better about some things. So, yesterday I found this ARC on NetGalley and decided to give it a try. Boy, oh boy! I was not disappointed in a slightest. First time after reading book like this I felt good, because I found some pretty good advises of how to feel better in your skin.
All the steps of achieving better quality of your life were so easy to follow and don't ask of you to change completely of who you are.
Also it was written in such a manner, that I flew through this book in a few hours.
It will definitely will be one of those books, that I read more then once.

Hypertension, Blood Sugar? Depression?: How I Cured Them All is the second book I’ve reviewed recently that details the connection between inflammation and ill health, including depression ... a growing field of interest. In this highly informative guide, Dr. Leonid Altshuler, a board-certified psychiatrist with over 20 years’ experience, reveals groundbreaking brain research with stress/depression/anxiety and metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance. He presents vital step-by-step recommendations for naturally improving brain sensitivity/body to insulin and treating stress/depression/anxiety. The book reflects his own journey to health from one who once suffered high blood pressure, digestion problems, insomnia, and anxiety. Both evidence and a plan for restoring good health are included in this highly recommended handbook.
