I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Kids don't always know that their actions have consequences and their decisions can hurt other people. This book does a great job at explaining why rumors are hurtful and the damage they can do. A great read.

This nonfiction book would be an excellent addition to any elementary classroom or school library.
Written from the point of view of a marble (a rumor), it helps students see how much a single rumor can grow and explode. Although very useful for young readers, they may find that some parts are a little unbelievable in that they were stretched too far in how a small rumor can drastically change lives. Overall, though, it would be a great component of a character education program.

Unfortunately this book didn’t format well onto my kindle and it made it difficult to really appreciate the illustrations and the text ended up spliced. With that being said, I still think this book willl be a great investment for my library as a lesson in social-emotional learning for my students. It shows how rumors have consequences, and one aspect that we always try to touch on at school is to think before speaking, which this book makes a great point of doing. I’m excited to get my hands on a physical copy of this book to share with my students so we can enjoy the story andnlustrations together; from what I saw in my ARC, I think this is going to be a beautiful book! Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

First off, that “Think before you speak” page towards the end is masterful, and should be available as a poster for classes (or just a message for our president). This book takes a bit of idea from the Pixar movie Inside Out. The rumor is a marble that is rolling around in people and causing problems. Big problems. The way this book is set up, is that the rumor is a character, who tells you why he’s good and why he’s bad. It also shows the destruction and misunderstandings that can take place because of a rumor. This book is a great lesson on rumors, and a bit on “fake media”. The tips at the end are great as well.

Julia Cook is the absolute best when it comes to social/emotional books. I lost track of how many I own by her. I especially love the parent/educator sections of the books for applicable discussion topics, vocabulary, and activities. Filled with entertaining pictures, Cook delivers a wonderful story regarding rumors that a variety of children can relate to.

A much-needed story about the dangers of spreading rumors and how rumors never seem to make anyone really feel better. Four stars instead of five because the rhyming is awkward. (Either have a good flow or don't rhyme at all, I say.) Will be a handy tool for teachers.

I love Julia Cook's books and I love her 3 dogs...that said, this was just so so. I usually love reading her books out loud because of the clever rhymes but this one just didn't flow for me. I guess the couch in the bathroom was OK, just didn't hit me with a punch that made me go yes, this is what I need for my 3rd graders. So, it was just OK.

Rumor Has It is another winner from Julia Cook. It is an age appropriate story about the consequences of rumors. I believed the illustrations will be well received by students. Parent/educator tips are included. I will use this book with my students when we discuss friendship, communication, and online etiquette. I will recommend to my fellow school counselors. Thanks to Boys Town Press for the ARC of this title via NetGalley.

This colorful book uses a marble to illustrate the harm of rumors. The illustrations are well done, but the best part is the suggestions on how to deal with rumors and run them through a "filter" for ourselves. There is a rhythmic pattern to the language that is aimed at elementary age children. I think this is a must have for the school and classroom library. It's a topic that needs to be covered again and again in our schools.

This was a really cute little book. Very easy to read even though it didn't transfer very well in an ebook. I loved how colorful it was. It flowed pretty nicely and everything was such an asset to the story. Most kids stories go off on tangents about other things that are not needed for the story but this one didn't. It was all so true and thought out.

I love this little children's story/poem. It has beautiful illustrations and a powerful message to be learned. Terrific work.
