Excellent for kids who are interested in hockey and ready for more of a deep dive into present and up-and-coming players. Not great for someone who is just learning what hockey is. In the right kid's hands, though, this book is going to be well loved.

For the hockey fan, this book is a short guide to some of the new young hockey stars over the few years. The author gives a short bio, some stats and also if they played in college or elsewhere before their pro career. A really good book to see Connor McDavid, Jake Guentzel, Rasmus Dahlin, Jack Eichel, Charlie McAvoy to name a few. You also get a list of records in the back of the book. Overall a very good book for any hockey fan I would think and a quick read.

I read this book with my 11 year old son, who absolutely loved it He has just started playing hockey. He loved reading the different stories about all the players. He was worried about starting the season as a novice with more experienced players. These background stories of players made hockey seem so much more reachable for him and he found the stories inspiring. He identified with many of the players and some of the things they experienced and went through. He enjoyed reading about his idol Auston Matthews and other players like Patrick Laine, Mark Scheifele and David Pastrnak to name a few. The book was well written and very engaging for young readers and is great for adults who want to learn more about hockey's up and coming talent. We are hoping that there will be a Hockey's New Wave 2019 edition.

I appreciate when I can add a new hockey book to my collection for kids as there aren't many published every year. I was really thrilled to see Seth Jones on the cover, not only does he play for my team the Blue Jackets, but I also appreciate seeing players of color on the cover. This book has excellent photos and information about the upcoming rising stars of the NHL.

On with the review...

As a hockey fan, I was excited to come across a book that highlights the young talent in the league. Some familiar suspects are included like Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Patrick Laine, and more. The really nice surprise is seeing the likes of David Pastrnak, Mark Scheifele, and Connor Hellebuyck included. There were a few omissions that surprised me, but on the whole, this was a really fun book. Each player's chapter includes a bit about where they came from, an anecdote that will help young readers connect to the players, and ends with a quick bio a la the back of a hockey card. The writing is definitely geared toward the middle grade set, but even adults who want to know more will enjoy reading about Hockey's New Wave. There are pictures of the players included, so even if someone isn't a household name yet, they may soon be recognizable. Fun book for the whole family to learn more about the NHL's up and coming talents.
