Man, what a book!! Can I repeat it again – What a book!!

I loved how the book began, it has been three years since Zoe’s son Ethan died via accidental drowning in the river along with his best friend Josh, when suddenly Zoe gets a warning. An email which casts suspicion that maybe Ethan’s isn’t accidental!!

“You need to find out the truth about what happened to your son. Don’t let this rest. Don’t believe the lie.”

And Zoe starts investigating…

What really happened to Ethan? And who was sending her these warnings, that too after 3 years?

My first book by Kathryn Croft (yes, I am soon going to read all her other books), and the book was a thrilling rush in each page. I loved the way a mother’s heart wrenched at the thought that her child was deliberately killed. I loved the way Zoe stood alone, strong and determined, trying to go back into the past, to days prior to Ethan’s death. I loved the way, the mother in her, looked after and cared for the elder son. I loved the way Zoe never gave up. And I loved the way she gave total loyalty and support to her sons. I loved Zoe!

The book was a total roller-coaster ride. I loved its bumpy roads, the twists and turns churned my stomach, and I enjoyed every bit of it. I was in such a book high till something niggled me (FYI the book also had the word “niggles” in it, sooo happy)

The ending – it could have been so much better. I went – nooo, don’t do this to me now. I loved you, book, why are you doing this to me. Change the ending, change the ending!! And there were some unanswered questions raised by that ending. Sighhh!!!

But the overall book was fab. I read it over 2 days as I didn’t want it to end. I went so slow, so that the story appeared never-ending. I did read parts of the book hiding from my boss. I wanted to read one more chapter before I had to stop. The book kept me going for 2 days. I loved the book, and it loved me back. Happy dance!! 💃💃

I thought this was an exciting, different and well written thriller that really kept me guessing.I thought the characters were well fleshed out even though there were quite a few of them. The story line was good and so was the pace of the book, and I stayed up way too late just wanting to read a bit more. However, the ending was rather surprising and for me ,without giving away any secrets it made what I was thinking was going to be a 5 star book into a 4 star book.I found the ending a little disappointing.I still think it was a good book and would still recommend it ,I was just somewhat confused by the ending. Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for n ARC.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
I have read several of the authors books, and was excited at the prospect of reading this latest one.
The story was easy to get into, and had me hooked from the beginning. There were a lot of trails to follow, and secrets aplenty. All of which kept me changing my mind about how the plot was going to pan out. I didn't guess the outcome, which I think is a sign of a good book. However on this occasion, the ending didn't quite do it for me, which was a little disappointing.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ecopy for my Kindle.
Three years after the accidental drowning death of two teenage boys who were best friends, the mother of one of the boys is questioning if their deaths were really accidental. She seeks answers from the other boy's parents, the police who investigated the boys' deaths, and the boys' close friends. There are twists and turns and just when I thought I knew who she could trust and who was lying to her, there were more twists and turns!
Except for the profanity, it was a good psychological thriller.

The Warning by Kathryn Croft is the first book I have read from this author. A great psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end.

Three years after two boys (Ethan and Josh) were found drowned in the river, their parents and family still struggling with their deaths. Still no answers of what happened that night? Why were these fourteen-year-old boys by the river at night? The coroner ruled it an accident, but was it? The family still struggles and thinks there is more to it.

Ethan’s parents are Zoe and Jake. Zoe, randomly starts getting messages from an anonymous person implying the boys did not die accidentally. Zoe is trying to make a new life and try to create some happiness in her life again with her family but she can't let it go.

Zoe, returns to Guildford to visit Josh’s parents and anyone else who might have information or answers. is someone just messing with Zoe or are there secrets and lies that someone is hiding?

A wonderfully written and exciting read that kept me guessing till the end. Thank you NetGalley for my Advanced e-copy.

I have enjoyed all of Kathryn Crofts previous books and couldn't wait to get into this one. It certainly did not disappoint. Full of twists and storylines that have you wondering how on earth it is going to all end, this book kept me up late into the night,.

3 years ago Zoe's 14 year old son Ethan and his best mate drowned in the lake near their home in what was ruled a terrible accident. The family have moved away to London to get a fresh start. When Zoe starts receiving anonymous messages that suggest that there was more to his death she started looking into what really happened. Her husband is less than supportive but she is determined to find out the truth.

It is a great, very fast paced story as always with Kathryn Croft. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

Ethan's mother, Zoe, gets a strange email regarding her youngest son, Ethan. Then through several points-of-view, we learn how Ethan & his friend, Josh died.

Many things have happened to all parties in the past 3yrs.

It kind of felt like a long read in the beginning but once I hit abt 40%, it really kept me going straight to the end & it was a definite twist.

This was a solid 4.5 for me.

As with all Kathryn Croft's other books this is another 5 star winner ! 3 years ago Zoe awoke to find her son Ethan's bed empty and she soon discovered that he had drowned with his best friend Josh in what was a tragic accident.3 years later she receives an email telling her to look into the deaths as they may not have been an accident,Zoe becomes obsessed with finding out the truth even if it means going it alone as she gets no help from her husband or Josh's mum.As the plot thickens more secrets and lies are revealed until the explosive and rather sad ending, yet again Kathryn Croft has written a novel which will have you on the edge of your seat and like all her previous books this is another excellent 5 star read.

I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for letting me have a copy of ‘The Warning’ by Kathryn Croft in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Zoe receives an email from an address she doesn’t recognise saying that the occurrence that happened three years ago claiming the life of her fourteen-year-old son Ethan and his friend Josh was not an accident. Zoe shows the email to the police who say they’ll look into it but she’s convinced the police aren’t interested and decides to find out herself what happened to Ethan and who was responsible. When her nineteen-year-old son Harley then disappears Zoe’s up against time to find him before it’s too late.
‘The Warning’ is an interesting and exciting thriller with an unusual plot, a number of characters any one of whom could have been responsible, various twists and turns, and a surprising ending that was almost too strange to be believable, not at all what I’d expected. I enjoyed reading it but found the ending rather weird and unusual, but nevertheless the story flowed easily making it well worth reading.

It is hard enough to lose a child in an accident. The toll of such heartbreak can tear families apart. But having survived the tragedy once, can Zoe's marriage last when she is faced with the awful truth that her son's death may not have been an accident after all. When she is faced with an email claiming that there was more to her son's death was more than it appears, Zoe is determined to find out not just who sent the e-mail but if there is any truth in it while her husband Jake just wants to dismiss it as a cruel prank. As she sets on about finding out what really happened that night she is faced with all manner of obstacles and truths she may wish she had never learned.

This is very much a slow building and suspenseful read, full of emotional turmoil and secrets which are gradually uncovered as the story progresses. As in all books I have read by Kathryn Croft, there is a strong lead character, one who is quickly established and easy to like, and whose determination to find out the truth really drives the story onward. There are many characters who make up this story with the chapters told from different points of view, predominantly Zoe, but also Jake, their son Harley and Roberta, whose son, Josh, also died along side Zoe's son, Ethan.

Interestingly it is only Zoe's chapters that are told in first person, pulling you completely into her world as the one frantically trying to find the truth. The others are told in third person present, making you feel a touch removed from their actions. This is an intriguing way of writing the book as at some stage you envisage that all of them are hiding something and this just adds to the intrigue. Certainly Roberta knows more than she is saying and Jake has a pretty big secret he is keeping too.

Set against all of this though, are chapters told by an, as yet, unknown narrator. You get a really sickening sense of foreboding as you read them, not knowing how they fit into the story but knowing that something unsavoury is happening, something which will blow the whole thing wide open. These scenes may make you uncomfortable as you can tell what is happening but perhaps not quite in its entirety.

There are some moments of great tension in this book, in spite of it essentially being a cold case. The ending has plenty of drama as well as some final revelations which may surprise you, and there are one or two moments along the way which certainly move the story away from your average family drama. There is one scene, involving Roberta and her husband which I found a little incredulous and you may have to suspend disbelief over the aftermath, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book which I read in around a day.

All in all, The Warning is a story full of suspense, tension, secrets and lies and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read and enjoyed several books from this author and this one was no exception. I like her writing style. I have to say this one didn't grab me until about 40%, then I thought the story picked up and I got more interested in what would be revealed. It seemed everyone had secrets and they were eluded to throughout the book, so we knew there would be a reveal of some sort in addition to how the 2 boys actually drown. I was surprised by most of the reveal, but not all.

I look forward to this author's next book.

Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Kathryn Croft for my arc of The Warning.
Kathryn Croft is one of my favourite thriller authors. She literally never lets you down! Her books are always chilling, mind puzzles with a fantastic twist (or in this case several) and The Warning was no different.
It's been 3 years since Zoe and Jake's son Ethan was drowned in the river near their home, along with his friend Josh. The couple and their son Harley are just trying to get on with their lives and get over the accident and the turmoil it caused. But then Zoe receives an email implying Ethan's death was no accident and prompting her to begin an investigation of her own.

The story was unputdownable right from the start. Kathryn always creates compelling characters with interesting and engrossing interior lives. Zoe is a strong woman there's no doubt about it, in fact the story is peppered with strong women even those who have been victims but come out of the other side.

The story is complex in its twists but never feels it, instead it feels like a quick easy read but with the strong, complex twists of an excellent thriller. And the revelations at the end simply blew me away...

I have read all of Kathryn Croft’s novels and always enjoy her writing and storylines. This was another huge success as far as I am concerned. Highly enjoyable read. I couldn’t put it down.

Parents, Zoe and Jake, lost their son Ethan in an accidental drowning. He was with a friend Josh who also died that night and Zoe, Jake and their other son, Harley, are still recovering from the trauma. It seems to have driven a wedge between them.

Three years after the event and Zoe starts to receive messages to say that Ethan didn’t die by accident. She begins to investigate, becoming obsessed with what happened and finds there are many twists, turns and events she didn’t know about at the time. Some of them she would rather not know.

Cleverly plotted with an excellent ending.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Kathryn Croft for my ARC in return for an honest review.

Highly enjoyable and strongly recommended.

This author has fast become one of my favourites so I had high expectations for this book and was not disappointed!
Grippy and pacey right from the start and kept me guessing throughout. A well deserved 5 star rating!

I have loved every one of Kathryns books , you really never know what you are going to get , in spite of my best efforts I can never figure out who is the villain . There are so many threads , so many suspects and red herrings all coming together expertly to produce a great read . This one was no exception . Zoe and Jake lost their son tragically 3 years previously and they are just about functioning when Zoe starts receiving cryptic text messages implying that the terrible accident was anything but . She of course follows up these leads . I won't give away any spoilers , it's a must read for me . 5 stars
