Roughing the Player is a second chance at love romance with a sport theme. I was very entertained by the story despite my dislike of the heroine. I wanted to see some growth in the character throughout the story, but not much change happened. I really appreciated the complexity of the hero however. The story was light, sexy and fun. It stood alone well despite being part of a series. I would read more from Magda Alexander.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation

I found this to be a very enjoyable read. An entertaining story-line and great characters keep your interest extremely well.

Watching the evolution of the relationship between these two was a treat. Add in drama and steamy passion and you have a good read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was sweet, sexy and steamy and had so much heart and soul to it! I ran the gamut of emotions and loved every minute. I just love Brock and Ellie, they are so real and they are both such strong and wonderful characters. Only one thing could get Brock to change his playboy ways and that was the reunion with the one who got away, Ellie. So much has changed for them but they reconnect in all ways possible and find out while it will never all be easy, love is worth the risk. I love their story, their journey and just everything about it. The epilogue was amazing.

Sizzling romance with steamy passion is a must in a Magda Alexander book but it’s the characters that make this a five star and a must read. I laughed, I swooned and I absolutely enjoyed this book from start to finish. I do love a fantastic sports romance and this one sure delivers that and more. I would highly recommend this book

I love a good sports themed romance but this wasn't one of my favorites. High school jock, nerdy tutor, one thing leads to another and she mysteriously disappears. Fast forward years and they meet again. <spoiler>He discovers he has a daughter and she never told him about it.</spoiler> Secrets, anger, and I was just shaking my head. Why does one MC get to make mistakes at 17/18 years old that they then hold over the other MC's head? That just bugs me and the h and her secret and her attitude bugged me.

Secret baby alert! For anyone who loves this trope - snatch this right up. If it gets your goat when a girl keeps her pregnancy a secret, then this book is not for you. I can tolerate it sometimes, but this was less successful for me. Essentially, this is a second chance, secret baby, marriage of convenience soup that doesn't quite spend enough time rebuilding the second chance after the secret baby to make me buy the marriage.

ARC received for review

Yet again, I don't read the first book. But this time was in no way lost since it's just characters from the first book who make appearances in this one.

Second chance romance with lots of heat and chemistry and very sweet dog. Loved all the epilogues.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Dare I say I kinda loved it? Sports, second chance romance,a huge secret and more is what made me love it. I am a sucker for all those things and this one just clicked in all the right ways!

I am so happy with it.... I am giddy!

Brock Parker was a backup quarterback and leads his team to the playoffs, so he was expecting a new contract not to be traded to Chicago. Not having any choice in the matter if he wants to continue to play football he moves to Chicago. In Chicago the one person that Eleanor Adams does not want to meet is Brock. In high school she was his tutor and then before the year was over her family moved. Now working for the sports agent the represents him she is in charged with his move. This does not go as planned and now she is having to spend more time with him. She also is keeping a secret from him and is hoping that he does not find out. Once the secret is out is up too both of them to work past their fears or fall apart. A very good book with good characters.

Roughing the Player is a must read. Sexy sexy athlete, the girl who got away. I really loved the energy in this book. The character of Brock is so forceful and confident but also carries a sensative side. The romance scenes are very very steamy. A great night in read.

My first read by Magda Alexander was fun & very hot. I enjoyed this book a lot, it was funny, extremely hot & very sweet at times. With Brock & Ellie you got secrets, a past history & 2 people truly trying to become the best in what they do. For Brock that’s being a professional quarterback who was crucified because of another players actions & now having to deal with another trade. Ellie is climbing the ranks as a sports agent, a field few women get far in. For the 2 of them together they have a history & a secret Ellie never wants Brock to know but secrets are usually found out at inopportune times. I love how author Magda Alexander brought the humour in with the embarrassing move fiasco that puts Ellie even more in the line of fire with Brock. Brock & Ellie when together were combustible even when they weren’t tearing each other’s clothes off. With another scandal looming over Brock, he & Ellie do the only thing possible to keep both their jobs.I loved Butch, Brock’s beloved dog & how easily he latches on to Ellie & Kaylee. I also loved the way Kaylee went to such lengths to get 2 stubborn people to realize how much they love each other. I wish I would’ve read book 1 first but it didn’t really make a difference, I will definitely be reading that book. Definitely recommend.

This story was sweet and easy to read. I just wish Brock's relationship with his daughter in the book had been better developed by the author. It seemed too much like he was more interested in sex with Ellie than getting to know his daughter and making her comfortable. Rubbed me the wrong way.

In high school Elle and Brock were nothing more than tutor and student, at least that is how Elle saw it, but from Brock's point of view things had a far different feel, one that lead him to believe they were friends, and maybe more. Elle cared for him, often fantasized about being the girl to capture his full attention, but he was too busy playing football to notice, or so she thought! Through the years they have thought about one another and their secret little one time affair, but it has always ended with both of them tucking those memories away for safe keeping... but that is all about to change now. The game he loves is about to reunite them all over again... and this time he is making sure she knows just how he feels!

Within minutes of cracking the cover on Roughing the Player I felt it take command of my attention, start to monopolize my thoughts, and from there I knew there was no letting go until I had devoured every little word... and boy was it satisfying! This first time read held many surprises, upon first glance I thought it was going to be a light and super sexy read, but I found it to be so much more than that, the story line had emotional depth that really sank it's claws into my heart, and brought on a serious case of the feels; the kind that leave a mark! The characters were flawlessly crafted; each coming with a realistic quality that made it easy to fall and feel for them, and each one with a unique personality that made them unforgettable. I have to say this is one of the most impressive first time reads I have settled down with this year, it has not only provided me with a few hours of pure enjoyment, but also introduced me to an author I am sure I will be watching closely from now on! Highly recommend this one, the heartfelt story line is sure to score some serious points with sports romance readers, and leave them wanting more!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

This is book 2 in a series and it was a brand new author me. It was beyond terrific. It had some really terrific plot points that made it a wondeerful story. I don't want to discuss the plot too much because you will want to read about it yourself.

It easily stands alone and is a 2nd chance at love sttory with two 30 year olds who dated at 18 until Ellie moved away at age 18. The story opens when Brock is traded from sunny san diego to frosty Chicago and is told he will get picked up at the airport by Ellie. Ellie remembers Brock very well, and she is now a junior sports agent and he is her new assignment.

Brock is a kinky playboy quarterback and he is traded because of his bad rep and so its Ellie's job to clean it up. Meanwhile Brock wants her back and so he works hard to get her to give him a shot. Ellie has some bg secrets and it was wonderful when they start unraveling.

Overall rating: 3/5 Ellie’s actions are a little too harsh for me, which cost the book points.

Heroine (Ellie): 3/5 She is a single mother who wants to represent athletes. She's got aubourn hair, a sweet disposition, and a fierce need to protect the ones she loves. Her big flaw is that she’s wrong to assume her actions are really protecting anyone but herself.

Hero (Brock): 4/5 He’s a sexy quarterback who has had a few public scandals hold him back from greatness. He’s tall, blond, and handsome and a desire to rekindle an old flame.

Plot: 3/5 the story is kind of split in two as far as the plot goes, we have a rekindled relationship storyline and then in the final act we have a parent trap-esk storyline. I enjoyed the first storyline a lot but I though the reason for the late game breakup was a little contrived.

Personal Review: I liked Brock, I liked his dog Butch, what I didn’t like is that Brock refused to actually finish any argument. Ellie and him would fight over a perfectly logical thing to be arguing about and then he would just haul her to bed instead of actually resolving the issue. Again, I liked Ellie, I loved her daughter Kaylee, but what I didn’t like about her is that at almost every turn Ellie runs from Brock as fast as she can and thinks the worst of him. She has trust issues but it is never narratively resolved as to why she gets over them toward the end, they just disappear and she goes all in on the relationship.

Spoiler territory: First off, Brock has every right to know he has a kid. It should be his choice whether or not he wants to be an active dad, but Ellie let both him and their daughter go 12 years without ever giving him that choice. That is kind of messed up especially when Brock could have helped with (at the bare minimum) with the bills not to mention she robbed her daughter of having her father in her life. By the end of the book it’s painfully obvious that Brock loves being a dad, and Ellie robbed him of that for years.

This was an interesting story. I really liked Brock's character. He was funny and sweet and real. I found Ellie to be very annoying at times and overly stubborn. I would like to read more from this author.

Roughing the player is sort of a second chance romance...jock falls for nerd book. Brock was a major ladies man in high school. He was a star athlete, rich, and handsome. Ellie is a good girl she is straight As and knows what she wants to do. One night changes everything and they go their separate ways.

Of course as adults they come together once more now they are adults. They will be working close to one another falling once more like they did as kids. However Ellie has a secret. Will they survive the scandals and road blocks that keep popping up in their way?

A great story of past lovers meeting up together and discovering neither ever lost their love. Whilst there is a major secret between them this story lives in the ideal that love conquers all. A truly enjoyable read. Highly recommend.
