Book Love is a new graphic collection by Debbie Tung. Well known for her gentle comics about daily life and philosophy, this collection is all about books and the bookish life. With an expected publication date in early Jan 2019 from Andrews McMeel, it's 144 pages and available in hardcover format.

The art (see cover) is simple and appealing. The author manages to convey a wealth of emotion and drama with a few lines. I found myself smiling and nodding a lot whilst reading this book.

I could recognize myself in almost every panel. I do take slight exception to her treatment of e-readers however. I -adore- analog books and indeed my house is full to bursting with new and old favorites. On the other hand, I couldn't bear to be without my e-readers. They're indispensable for all the books I don't need to revisit and they take up so little room. If they come up with an 'old book' room perfume, I'll be all set!

Adorable book. This one would make a great gift for a bookish friend.

Four stars, appealing and relevant for anyone who loves books and reading.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Review:
This book is an adorable collection of comics about bookworms: our daily struggles, moments of joy, bad habits, etc. It also features some great book recommendations, advice for reading slumps and a list of things book can teach all of us.

It’s been raining all day here and I was browsing some books on Netgalley and as soon as I saw this book I recognized the author's style and immediately downloaded it! Then I decided to procrastinate with my homework and read this cute and heart-warming graphic novel by the lovely author Debbie Tung!

Debbie Tung is an illustrator and also author of the book "Quiet Girl in a Noisy World". I know her from her instagram @wheresmybubble where she posts short, funny and lovely comic-illustrations about her everyday life.

I literally devoured this book while sipping a cup of tea in this cozy and rainy day.
As a book lover I related to all of the scenarios illustrated and literally smiled the whole time while reading this adorable book.

The illustrations have a very recognizable style that I love even if I expected the comics to be more “tidy and neat” for the book.

This was quick, cute, and so accurate! As a life long reader and lover of books, these comic strips were so relatable. The illustrations were fun, and the light-hearted jokes poked at all bibliophiles will give you a good laugh. All bookworms (or those who live with one, date one, interact with one regularly, etc.) should read this.

I downloaded this a digital copy of “Book Love” from NetGalley for an honest review.

I don’t read comics or cartoon books, but I saw this had so many positive reviews that I felt I couldn’t pass it up. I swiftly read through it in one evening and I was laughing at how closely I related to each cartoon. A pure gem for book lovers. Truly a delightful read with charming illustrations. This would make the perfect gift for other book lovers that you know, as well.

Thank you Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC.

O yes, I do that, and that and that too...once a reader always a reader!
This book is sheer bliss. Wish I could smell it.

This is a really quick read (I just finished it over dinner - ironically, there was one panel about that). It involves a lot of the stuff book lovers often do or think about - and considering that, I should have been able to relate to it very much. But for some reason, it didn't move me too much. Perhaps because some of it was purely for print book lovers, and a lot of the problems could be solved by just picking an ereader - so a lot of the problems weren't 'problems' for me at all (like not having another book when you're done). Then there were also all these things that make sense when you're a regular reader, but not when you're a book blogger, because your connection to reading changes.

But anyway, I think most people will enjoy this collection. It is adorable and in centers around love of reading.

I thank the publisher for providing a free copy on NetGalley in exchange to an honest review.

A compendium of one- or two-page cartoons which you might normally call gag strips, except that only some of them are even aiming to be funny. I'd seen a couple of the best of them shared on social media, and smiled – the recognition, the cute art, the unimpeachable sentiments. But too much of what was sweet, taken together, becomes cloying. And I don't mean reading through the whole thing at a trot, which would be the act of a lunatic, and a twee one at that – I mean even reading a handful a day, as one might with a loo book. Which, let's be honest, is the market for which this is aiming – likely bought at Christmas by well-meaning relatives who know you like books, but can't really be confident of much more than that. Making particularly ironic the strips which are most performatively in love with books qua physical object – and don't get me wrong, I love physical books, but I'm sceptical of anyone who sees ebooks as their enemy, rather than a way to read more books. Additional layer of irony: I read this on screen, as a Netgalley ARC, which if it had stuck to the luddite end of its own otherwise often admirable principles, would not exist. The best of what's here is utterly lovely, but - further irony - I'm just not sure a whole book was the best vector for it.

I absolutely loved this book, it expresses how wonderful reading is, and is basically a celebration of books. Bound to enchant librarians, authors, readers of all kinds.

Thank you to @netgalley and @andrewsmcmeel for the review copy of Book Love by Debbie Tung!! This book is hilarious, relatable, and entertaining. It’s the life of a book lover told through adorable black and white illustrations. So many of the ideas pictured I have experienced in my own life—reluctance to loan out a beloved book, picking up too many books at the library, reading in awkward social situations, and finding it the book you ordered was the dreaded movie poster edition! I loved this book! It is a must read for anyone who’s packing multiple books in their vacation suitcase! This book will be released January 1, 2019!

OK, I just want to know how the author crept into my brain to write this graphic novel about book love. Perhaps I am not alone in my obsession, but she nailed me, my thoughts, etc. I you know someone else who loves to read, I am positive that they would love to read this book. the writing is clever and the illustrations are charming, and not overdone.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this comic book in exchange for an honest review.

Debbie Tung is a book lover~ not just a casual one but an avid lover. hahaha

If you have ever struggled to explain your love of books to someone, no need to stress, this book does a wonderful job of it.

Debbie's comics capture multiple aspects of what is is to be a lover of reading and book *ahem* collecting. This book made me laugh and relate on all levels. For half the comics I caught myself nodding in agreement like an inside joke.

If I ever meet Debbie in real life, based on this book, we'll have lots of things to talk about. We could even go to the bookstore and read for hours to become fast friends. LOL

This book comes out in January 2019 and it's going to be an automatic buy for me. Support authors, artists, and (always) fellow book worms. <3

If you are a book lover -- wherever you are a book blogger, bookstagrammer, booktuber or just some one that plain old loves books, this book is for you! Some of these comics are also probably very familiar to you, since I know that I have seen at least two of these short comics before reading this collection. Tung's comics seem to be very popular on the internet, so you are probably very familar with her work. This book is pretty much designed for people who love books, as it's basically a love letter to books and the people that love them. Debbie Tung is our people, and she really gets the life of being a book lover.

This is short book that is a quick read, I literally read the majority of it during my lunch break at work. If you are looking for a short and sweet book to read, I recommend this one. Especially if you are looking for something lighthearted to make you feel good.

Tung really captures what it's like to be a book lover, and how much we horde books so much! Some of the panels, like one where there is a argument between ebooks vs. print books, I didn't really agree with, but it's not done in a nasty way, but in a touch-in-cheek way. Personally I love all book formats, but I know there are other readers that are physical books or death, so maybe they will love that particular panel!

This one filled me with such warm and fuzzy feelings, I highly recommend it for any book lover out there!

*I received an egalley of this comic from Netgalley

This is a nicely done collection of comics all about books. There are definitely some relatable moments here for anyone who loves books and reading! The illustrations are well-done, and I particularly enjoyed the occasional full-page frames -- the detail and depth in those is just amazing.

As I flipped through this book, I couldn't help but think that the format and style of these would be well suited to one of those page-a-day calendars. You could easily enjoy the comics in this book either in small doses (which is probably why I think they'd be well suited to a calendar) or in a long sitting. Overall, I enjoyed this title a lot!

Relatable, fun, and light, but not unlike something we've never seen before. I much preferred the author's debut book, and although this was a slightly disappointing experience, I'll keep an eye on her future works for sure!

Recommended to those who haven't read much introvert/book-oriented graphics.

Welcome to a wonderful book lovers book, that can be read in one day. Appropriately titled "Book Love". Debbie Tung, an artist and cartoonist, melts the heart of any person who loves books and loves to read. On almost each page you can see yourself or a situation you have been in.

Short in length. long in smiles, this is a book that should not be missed. Lighthearted, engaging, and full of what we love most - books!

So much of this rings true to me as a fellow bibliophile. Two of my favorite quotes from this book are:

"Why I Read . . . I read to learn new things. I read for ideas and inspiration. I read for enjoyment and happiness. But above all, I read to escape from the real world"

and

"When I read I'm in a world of my own."

The illustrations are delightful and perfectly match the words on the page. This is a fast and fun read! Book Love will appeal to all book lovers!

A graphic novel about the love of reading

A book most readers here could relate.
It makes me smile on how much similarity I have with the main character.
A woman who like reading a lot and behave the way most readers would. She loves book, she loves reading books. And that how she spent most of her time. Adorable.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review which has not altered my opinion of this book.

Oh my goodness! This book was so freaking adorable and I whipped through it. If you love books then be on the lookout for this one!! This takes everything that we think about as bookworms and puts it into a really creative and fun cartoon. I found that I really identified with it. I can't help but recommend this book to every bookworm that I have met.

Overall, this book was so much fun and incredibly enjoyable for me and I feel it would be for any bookworm or a person who knows a bookworm. I'm still trying to get my boyfriend to read it. 5 out of 5 from me!
