A Pack of Blood and Lies
by Olivia Wildenstein

This was an amazing read. The first in a trilogy. Wildenstein will hook you with just the prologue giving you a sense of the harsh lifestyle in lower class level in L.A..

Ness, who lost her father 6 years earlier and her mother only a mere few moths ago, comes face to face with her past who chased them away.

Forced to go back to the place she was raised, Ness comes face to face with the former Alphas son, Liam. Being the only female born to a male pack, Ness views almost everyone as a hostile. While she was always shunned for being female, she decided to show the males that now on the verge of adulthood, she would put her name in for Alpha.

Join Ness and Liam, as they struggle with not just the trials of the competition, but also with who they are becoming as adults and their place in the world.

I throughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the second of this trilogy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I had never read anything by this author before, but the premise of the book drew me in. I love a good Werewolf story! I wasn't at all disappointed either. Ness comes from a long line of predominantly male werewolves. She and her mother were forced away after some trauma forced them away. Ness gets forced back to the life she left behind, with an unknowing friend tagging along and really ends up throwing all the guys in the pack for a loop. Being the only girl makes the guys think they can stomp all over her but she doesnt go for that. I really enjoyed how Ness is kick butt herself and doesn't stand for the guys trying to pull rank on her. Especially when it came to Liam. I will for sure look into more work by Ms. Wildstein!

There is nothing I love more than a bad ass female MC- I think our world needs as many of them as possible- so when I was approved for this book I was beyond stoked to start. I found that I was quickly sucked in and taken for a ride riddled with twists and turns that shocked me! I really enjoy Ness' and Liam angsty relationship!

A Pack of Blood and Lies was such a good book. It did, however, take a bit to get into. I'd like to blame the characters because they just kept making me flip flop throughout the book. I did have a ship though, Ness and Liam. It took forever for them to actually become that thought. Mostly because Liam was a little man whore.. and Ness was just adorable and feisty.

This book definitely delivered a bunch of good twists and turns. I had no idea who was betraying who the entire time. Which is probably why I loved reading this book so much. Now I did mention that characters were annoying me in this book. I wouldn't say it was the MC's the entire time. Nope, it was this fucking pack that did it for me. The way they treated Ness throughout the book just pissed me off to no end. I didn't care if and when Liam would stand up for her.. because it didn't outweigh everything else that was happening.

That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it either, because again - I shipped these two. It just took forever for that to actually happen. I saw the chemistry and the sexual frustration between the two after they first met. However, the secrets between these two just needed to be aired out ASAP. Once that happened, it definitely brought these two much closer than they were before. It eventually started to win the entire pack over.

Overall, I loved Ness and Liam. I loved the twists and turns and I'm still shook to the core over who betrayed them all. I'm trying to wrap my mind around it still and it's hard. I need the next book of this series stat!

Ness is 17, living on her own after she and her mother fled from the pack and her mother died of cancer. When her uncle comes to take her back to Colorado, she doesn’t want to go. The former Alpha who raped her mother is dead, but his son is going to be the next Alpha. She is determined to hate him, and challenges him for the position as Alpha.

I really wanted to like Ness, but I just didn’t like her as a main character. She really gets in her own way. I’m all for a woman challenging the patriarchy, but Ness has no desire to be an Alpha except to spite Liam. It’s a job she doesn’t want and isn’t prepared for. She isn’t planning on sticking around either. She hasn’t been around these people in a long time. I get wanting to prove yourself but it made it hard to root for her when she came across like a brat.

Also she’s gets a job as a paid escort, then gets really judgmental when people call her out on it. She’s 17 on a date with a guy in his sixties. When Liam and his friends warn her off because the dude is a creep she gets offended. If there’s a bad decision, Ness makes it. I’m not sure if she’s intentionally written as an antiheroine but it made the book more tolerable reading that way.

Liam wasn’t too bad. In fact, I think this story would have been really good from his POV. His dad was murdered, he has been groomed to be the alpha since he was a kid, and now some girl who ran off is back and challenging him for it just to spite him because his dad was horrible.

The romance between Ness and Liam was ok, but I really liked the chemistry between Ness and her old friend August. I’m looking forward to that in book two since I went ahead and read the description on Goodreads.

The world building wasn’t great, but it was pretty standard for a ya shifter fantasy. In Ness’s pack, only the men are werewolves, except for Ness. This becomes a plot point later in the story and is explained.

I am not sure if this is a shaky start to a new series and it will improve later, but I liked Liam and August enough to give book two a try. The ending is far better than the beginning, but if this hadn’t been an ARC, I’m not sure I would have stuck with it.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review and the opinions are my own.

Heart-pumping and intriguing A Pack of Blood and Lies is brilliantly written and entertaining. This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author but I’m now a devoted fan!

This is one of the best paranormal reads ever!

I’m obsessed. This book is addicting and page-turning. I loved every second of it; From the push and pull of the main characters to the mystery.

I loved all the characters and hope they each get their story told.

This book has a kickass heroine and a bunch of badass werewolves. Oh my!

This book was amazing and gripped me from the very first page. There was absolutely nothing I did not like.

This author made her mark on me. Make no mistake, I will be continuing this series while keeping an eye out for this author’s future works.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A pack of blood and lies by Olivia Wildenstein is a YA paranormal fantasy about a girl, Ness who is not afraid of anything that comes her way and tackles an All-male pack all by herself.
When Ness's father was killed, she appealed to the Alpha, Heath Kolane to accept her into the pack but was denied because of her gender. Boulder pack, being an all-male pack didn't like Ness as she was the only girl in the pack and with her father dead, didn't waste time kicking her out.
Now, after six years her paternal uncle comes to take her back against her will. When Ness finds the next Alpha-in-line is Liam Kolane, Heath Kolane's son, she's determined to do everything she can to stop him from being the Alpha, even if it ends with her being killed. With Ness still holding grudge against the pack, going against Liam and having secrets she doesn't want anyone to know, when her feelings for Liam start to grow, it becomes all jumbled up.
Okay, I LOVED THE BOOK! I have a really soft spot for paranormal books but this was so different from most of such books. Liam was nothing like what Alphas are supposed to be yet so perfect as one. Every character was perfect and this made the whole book perfect. Each character was distinguishable from the other and I loved each of them (with the exception of the villains). Ness wasn't the perfect heroine who knows everything and that made her normal and more likable. The story line was amazing. The competition was good but I like how it wasn't the main focus of the book. Highly anticipating the next book!

*sighs* I have so many things to say....

First off I can say I did enjoy the book, for most of the adventure... the other half was filled with things I'd rather not dwell on but will talk about later. The description, the characters, the story itself. *dreamy sigh* xD

Description ~ The words just linked and flowed together like they belonged, singing a song and humming a melody of adventure. It was gorgeous. I particularly appreciated that it was only a one person POV since I get multiple often enough. And I loved the otherworldly but at the same time normal twist the book had. ( at first I didn't completely understand until I learned they were werewolves... )

The Romance ~ This is one part of the book that could have been less vivid. So many talks of sex, flippantly uses of all manner of things disgusting. I don't believe love was displayed right in this work of art. Love is not temporary passionate feelings nor is it sex. Love is so much more...and the fantasies people live in about love ( including this ) is wrong... do we really think that those passionate feelings will last FOREVER???

The characters ~ I felt so deeply connected with them. They all had their pains and reasons why each one acted the way they did. Every time a different character would come into a conversation with Ness I could always expect it to live up to how that particular character was. It was just so much fun living in another world with these cool, unique characters.

Ness ~ I love her personality and her first person POV!! It was so much fun to here how she reacted in every situation knowing that this was NESS!! Also how she literally joined the Alpha competition just to spite Liam!! xD

Liam ~ Okay... so he freaked me out a bit I will admit and at one point I really hated him, but I think I get him now.... I think. We're good, yep. Definitely good.

Evelyn ~ I love her so much. And after hearing her true backstory I was gaping and like, "Oh, my... you poor dear" So yeah....

Jeb ~ Definitely hated him at first. Now he's cool and I actually like him... surprisingly enough.

Everest ~ Yeah.... I knew the whole time. I just knew. You... werewolf. I -- *sniffs nose disdainfully* -- wash my hands of you. And yes, I totally agree with Ness, let the pack hunt you down......

Sarah ~ Not my favorite person in the whole world, especially considering her personality is so unlike me....

The Content ~ So I have a lot to say in this area... and my rating would not have made it to three stars if the book hadn't ended to good. There were so many things that unnerved me throughout and eventually I was like, "Okay, now I have to finish it so I can write a perfect review". Oh my word. The swear words were way to much for me. Every swear word you could think of... seriously.. and I'm certain there was three to six on every page. EVERY. There was a lot of bars and drinking beer ( disgusting.... ) which really unnerved me. I'm pretty sure there was also a homosexual couple in this one. ( What is it with me and picking up all the homosexual books??! )But what was the worst of all was the flippant talk of sex, nakedness, rape, body parts, etc. And there were plenty of scenes in which Ness ended up naked because of her constant werewolf form. There was a scene of near rape... ( needless to say I brushed over that ) A scene of almost sex ( brushed over this to ) and some gory parts. Not my favorite book in the world, due to unnecessary content.

Overall ~ I loved the description and getting to know the characters. I also loved the way the packs functioned and even the werewolf thing in itself. I didn't like all the content, however, and I am disappointed by it. If I continue this series bit will be mainly to give a Christian review and easy my own curiosity.

A big thank you to NetGalley and the publishing company for allowing me to read the book in exchange for an honest review. You guys are awesome!!

I enjoyed reading this werewolf coming of age romance between Ness and Liam. Supernatural alternative universes are a particular favorite if well-written and this author does a good job of pulling the reader into their universe. Don't want to give too many spoilers, but the two main characters play off each other as strong leads and it the ending is happy. If you like reading Kelley Armstrong or Patricia Briggs, I think you'll enjoy this book too.

Reading this book has been a pleasure! I stayed awake all night to finish it.
Maybe some of the things were predictable, maybe someone would twist his nose for the almost love triangle, but I think you just have to read this and enjoy the ride! Things don't have to be overcomplicated to be beautiful!!
And if that is not enough for you buy this book because there is mystery, love, redemption , empathy, friendship and much more.

When I first began this story I thought it was the second in a series. I actually went back to hunt down to make sure that this was indeed the beginning of a new series. The way the reader is thrown in makes it hard to figure out just what is happening and who we are supposed to be learning about.
Once you push through the first 5 or so chapters the story begins to take place. While I would have loved a prologue the back story does come out slowly. We learn about prejudice and sexism and all sorts of triggering things(rape talk).
What I enjoyed the most has to be the ending. It was not at all what I was expecting and it pleasantly surprised me. I may even pick up the second to see what will happen next.
Thank you for allowing me to read and review this through NetGalley.

It has a great female lead character, Ness, that was shunned from her only family. She is forced to return to them and doesn't hold back how she feels. Ness takes control of her life and forces the people who abandoned her to see she is not a coward and has a back bone. Definitely an amazing lady to read about. Hope you enjoy it!

Got this from NetGalley to make an honest review about it. I always wanted a book about werewolves & finding one was difficult. Why are there hardly any book out here about werewolves dang it! When I read this I loved how Ness was independent & she didn’t crap any crap! I love mystery of this book. The only thing I have about this book is Heath & Aiden. I need book 2 like yesterday lol!

The book was good. The story didn't have as much of an impact as I expected it to. That may be because I recently read Bitten by Kelly Armstrong and liked it a lot. So I was kind of comparing both the books for a while.

As for the characters, I loved all of them. They seemed complete and it was clear what each character stands for.

Werewolves. Drama. Mystery. Romance.

This book was so addicting and very reminiscent of the Werecat series by Rachel Vincent. I thorough enjoyed this book, the characters were so much fun. I especially enjoyed how they interacted with each other throughout the book. I went into this thinking it was going to be just a regular YA romance but I was definitely wrong. The twists and turns and drama mixed with the romance had me hooked. I’m not a mystery reader so the little mysteries throughout the book surprised me, every turn was a shock to me and I literally had my mouth gaping open at some parts. All in all I loved it and can’t wait for the next one!

A pack of Blood and lies was soooo good! When I first started reading this story we got off to a bit of a rocky start but a couple of pages in and I was totally hooked! I can’t wait for more! This is a full length story with no cliffhanger but the author has promised more.

I want to thank Netgalley for providing me an Arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

First of all I want to say how much I loved this book!
At first glance I thought I was going to be a typical werewolf storyline but I was pleasantly surprised and found I couldn’t put this book down.

I adored our main character Ness she was so badass.
I also love the dynamics between her and the pack considering she was shunned for being born a girl in an all male pack.
She was able to stand up for herself amid all the sexism and hate being thrown her way and I loved her for that.

Overall this is everything I could have ever wanted from a werewolf book.
I devoured this book in one sitting and when I finished I immediately wished I had the next book.
If I could give it more than five stars I would because I haven’t enjoyed a book like this one in a long time.
