This is a beautiful book that gives inspiration for creating beautiful lettering of many kinds. Lettering can be so hard to get right on an embroidery project so it's wonderful to see so many creative ideas for making it work, no matter the project. From chunky initial letters exploding with a bouquet of blooms gorgeous enough to stand alone, to delicate cursive in stem stitch suitable for adding text to almost any grander project, this book has you covered. The alphabet patterns at the back of the book are an incredibly valuable resource, and for the novice stitcher the stitch guides at the front are clear and useful.

This would be a great reference for any stitcher.

Full of projects that I can't wait to begin. The instructions are simple, clear and easy to follow and the photographs are beautiful. Perfect for people like me who are just starting out with embroidery

Perfect if you are looking to get involved in some embroidery projects. Each of the 25 projects featured are presented into small details, with relatively easy to follow instructions and with relatively nice results. You don´t even need too much experience, as in the introductory part the stitch guide and the explanation about different techniques makes things easy to follow. Recommended if you are about to start an embroidery hobby or just looking to do something different.

Embroidery Lettering
by Debra Valencia

A great book for someone just starting out learning how to Embroider lettering; but, can be used as a helpful guild for someone that has not embroidered for a while. The book of Embroidery Lettering features 25 projects; which includes instructions, templates and covers the basics of hand embroidery from start to finish, including the tools needed and material used. Ms. Valencia shows her readers how to transfer patterns, how to finish projects for display or for gift giving; but the most important part of how to do the various stitches, step-by-step instructions with photos for each step that is sure to increase the confidence of anyone just starting out with this craft.

The directions are very clear, and easy to follow along with the illustrations and photographs that can assist the users that are a visual learner. This is an excellent manual for taking one’s embroidery skills to another level. The projects are creative and useful in being able to help the user to create projects for themselves. This book would make an excellent gift for anyone that has a crafter.

I enjoyed reading Embroidered Lettering, brought back memories of my childhood. This was a craft that mothers used to teach their daughters. Having read this book, I have started back embroidering. I personally would have changed the types of drink projects to a non-alcoholic; which would make the book better suited for young crafters. I received an advance reading copy Fox Chapel Publishing, I am writing my honest review and giving the book and author a 4.5-star rating. I was not obligated to write a review, for receiving aa advanced copy.

As an avid sewist and crafter, I loved this book! It's filled with great ideas and is beautiful to look at. Beyond being an excellent resource for embroidery enthusiasts, it would also make an excellent coffee table book!

Great resource and fun ideas. What project to pick first? Or second or third. Can’t wait to get started.

As a life long cross stitcher, I have always looked at embroidery with some trepidation. It just looked too hard! But this book has alleviated some of my hesitancy towards this craft. It offers detailed instructions on numerous different embroidery stitches. There are also useful pictures to go along with those instructions. And to top it all off, there is a wide variety of different projects. I thought the book was well thought out and easy to follow. I see myself making good use of the information provided.

My thanks to Fox Chapel Publishing and Netgalley.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review Embroidered Lettering. The stitchery in this book is beautiful but too complex for my abilities. However, I still enjoyed looking at the beautiful work and might try some of the easier stitches.

As I have a new-found interest in hand embroidery, I enjoyed reading Embroidered Lettering. The book features 25 projects, but the part I liked the best is that it covered the basics of hand embroidery from start to finish. It covers tools and material used, how to transfer patterns, how to finish projects for display, and most importantly how to stitch various stitches. The section that tells the reader how to do different embroidery stitches has step-by-step instructions with photos for each step that is sure to increase the confidence of even a beginner.

The second part of the book contains project instructions and templates. My favorite project, Floral Monogram Hoop, is featured on the book’s cover. Like several of the other projects, this one uses several different embroidery stitches. Many of the projects feature modern lettering styles that are popular now. My only criticism is that a couple of the projects deal with drinking alcohol. The rest of the book would have been also perfect for tweens and teens that commonly have interest in crafting projects. The inclusion of the drinking projects limits the audience in my opinion. Other than that, I enjoyed the book.

I received an advance reading copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not obligated to write a positive review.

This book was somewhat underwhelming. I was hoping for more patterns for monograms. Instead I got several ideas that I could have found on pinterest or instagram.

This book is great for beginner in that Debra Valencia gives a basic overview of the tools and materials used in embroidery, and includes some helpful tips as well. Her embroidery stitch guide gives step by step, detailed descriptions of creating a variety of stitches supported by photographs that clearly depict stitch construction. The 25 projects are contemporary, and are divided into four groups: hoops and frames, home décor, accessories and clothing. While they won't all be for everyone, there is something for most everyone.

I received a copy of the book from Fox Chapel Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. This advanced copy did not include the project templates or the alphabet patterns, so I cannot address the ease with which these features are used, but considering the high quality of the other features, I am sure these are more than adequate. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review, and received no monetary compensation.

There are so many cute projects in this book that I literally want to make them all. The days of the week tea towels, the drink recipe coasters, and the bookmarks are my favorites. I like that the beginning of the book includes a lot of different stitches for beginners like me who need to practice different stitches before starting these amazing projects. It is nice to have the visual aides for that at the beginning and the advice about what kind of needles to use. I think this is a great book for a beginner as well as someone more experienced who is looking for interesting projects to do.

There is a project here for every skill level and interest. A template section would be super-helpful; one is mentioned, but hasn't been added to the review copy yet.

I'm pleasantly surprised here. I always wanted to learn how to embroider things but I'm a slow learner in this direction.

I really appreciate that the book took care to show the different stitches. Because that was one of my problems, I know their names in Czech (or French) but sometimes I'm struggling how exactly they are called in English and I often found myself confused by directions. Therefore, I enjoyed that this book started with the basics but at the same time showed several projects which are not basic but something that you can really do and use. I really like that.

I already chose two projects I need to do asap (and I also chose several more for later because they seem more time consuming). I really loved the embroider coasters and the tea towels.

My only issue is that sometimes in the instruction for the projects I feel like the pictures were too small to really understand what the author is trying to show to us. And then there were pictures so big that they took over the whole page when it was absolutely unnecessary.

A charming collection of embroidery patterns. As a non-embroider, they seem accessible, with plenty of step-by-step instructions and photographs. Particularly clever is the champagne-themed hoop with pearl beads as bubbles.

This is an excellent manual for taking one’s embroidery skills to another level. The directions are very clear and the illustrations and photographs will assist the user who is a visual learner. In addition, the projects are both creative and useful serving as springboards for projects the user can create themselves. This book also makes an excellent gift!

I voluntarily provided my own opinion on an Advanced Readers Copy that was supplied by the publisher and NetGalley.

This is a great book for those who are just beginning to embroider. The instructions are easy to follow and the pictures are very helpful. I don't think that I would utilize the individual project patterns but they were very creative and well designed. I am not sure that the Title really fits the content.
