A fun, steamy book from author Melonie Johnson. This is the first in her Sometimes in Love series. I highly recommend following it up with the other two books in this series - Smitten By The Britt and Once Upon A Bad Boy - but can definitely be read as a stand alone book. In this book Cassie and Logan are the least likely couple to pair up. Cassie is an American journalist visiting Scotland with her friends and Logan is an up and coming internet star that she runs into while touring a castle. A fun one night stand turns into many unexpected nights spent together. They have such a fun relationship you can't help but hope they end up together in the end! I enjoyed this book and found it to be sexy, funny and sweet. I'm grateful to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.

I had the opportunity to read this book thanks to Netgalley, my opinions and thoughts are in no way influenced by that. They belong to me and only me.

I think that for the most part I did enjoy this book, I definitely that it was a really cool concept and I am a sucker for contemporary romance sometimes when I’m in the mood. I think when I started this it was just what I need. I mean it had Scotland, Kilts, hot Scottish modern highlander wrapped up in a comedian who just happened to run a web show.

The great thing about this story and that grabbed my attention was definitely that the main character got tricked into meeting the main character, and it was great to see that she could hold her own against him, who was so used to getting everything he wanted when it came to women.

Armed with condoms and travel passes Cassie wanted to shed her normal boring life and live a little by having a one night stand with a hot foreigner. But as the vacation comes to a close she is no closer to getting that wish. While she’s collected various charms and memories no man has truly appealed to her like Luke who with the help of his sister tricked her and played her a prank, armed with a contract and the hottest kisses she’s ever had. Luke has come to complicate her life. She’s the only thing standing between the TV Deal he’s been waiting for to take him to stardom and not just another webstar. But something about Cassie calls him, can he get in and out without falling for the sassy American.

I think that even though I did manage to lose interest about 70 percent of the way in, I still really enjoyed this. I just hope that I could have kept my attention.

Cassie had one goal on her whirlwind vacation with her best friends through Europe. Find a man for one night. She packed her sexiest lingerie and a box that would give her all the protection she needed. Each location came and went and she didn’t feel the slightest attraction to the men she met. That, however, changed while she was in Scotland. Wandering around and giving aid to someone was something she was determined to do and never expected the outcome of meeting Logan. He is a man that would have her knees knocking and the breath hitching in her lungs every time she saw him. Absolutely loved the beginning of this series!

Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read and review GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT by Melonie Johnson. I am usually very uptight about reading book series in order. Unfortunately, I read this current novel after reading the other two novels in this enchanting trilogy. I was able to get past my twitchiness of reading out of order by looking at this first novel as though it was a prequel of sorts.
Cassie and Logan are the main characters in this story. They are very different in many ways. The author develops them in depth and it is easy to see how Cassie is often charmed and infuriated by Logan. There is a great mixture of humor and poignancy. One of my favorite parts is when Logan takes Cassie to his home in Scotland to meet his Mam.
Author Melonie Johnson shares some background on other characters that play smaller roles in this book, but will have stories of their own in upcoming tales. Cassie is fortunate to have such caring friends and their trip to Europe sounds as though it will bring them even closer, no matter what happens over the years. Even though I am considerably older than the characters, I can relate to them. That is certainly due to the talent of this author.
I hope Melonie Johnson will write more charming novels in the near future.

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is the first book in her Sometimes in Love series. It is the authors debut novel, a contemporary romantic comedy that bridges pop culture themes with women's inclinations for wild fantasies. An entertaining read that focuses on conversational exchanges among the characters. It is common for more than two people involved in many of the conversations, which keeps readers discovering a variety of personalities.

The story's heroine is Cassie Crow, an American pop-culture reporter for a popular TV talk show. Her ambition is to be serious journalist. Contrastly, Scottish web host Logan Reid has carved out a niche for himself online as a prankster for the internet show Shenanigans, playing jokes on celebrities and non-celebrities alike. Readers will relate to him as the heterosexual counterpart to actor James Corden, the host of Carpool Karaoke. The pair meet while they take a tour of a Scottish castle, playing on the reader's fantasy of meeting a stranger in a foreign land and feeling a spark that beckons for a deeper exploration.

Each are likeable characters though it is not obvious to the reader at the start that the two will make an enduring couple. As the two explore their personalities, vulnerabilities, needs, and desires, the author slowly proves to audiences that these two polarized individuals actually have more in common than what their public image would lead them to think. A one night stand turns into many more nights together even as the two demonstrate a life-size degree of friction. The friction brings in a level of reality that the reader can relate to.

The happily ever after ending does not come about from a series of dates but from a series of hours in the days that the two spend sharing their lives. The pair do not work at impressing one another but form a natural bond based on their thoughts about popular culture. Each found a place for themselves profiling popular topics. Their relationship develops slowly, sometimes too slow for the reader but the author keeps the story on course and gears the characters closer with each page.

I really enjoyed reading this debut story because it pulled me into Cassie's grand adventure of meeting a very hot Scot, Logan Reid, in an ancient castle. Cassie is open to a great adventure but she's still cautious about Logan and his online video show and its impact. These two make a great couple and I love the friends that make up the adventure, too.

I am looking forward to further adventures and stories.

Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an ARC; all opinions are my own.

Cassie and Logan are fun from the start. Their meet cute is reminiscent of an Outlander moment and will delight fans. Johnson is a new author for me, but I will definitely read more and can’t wait to dive into the next in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Wow, wow, wow! Melonie Johnson knows how to write a steamy novel! I absolutely loved this story and if I could I would hop on the next plane to Scotland and find me a kilt wearing man, I loved the friendships and the romance in this book. It made you want more and more as the book went on. I cannot recommend this book enough.

This one just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t relate to the characters and felt it was overwritten. It was a DNF for me

Getting Hot with the Scot is the first book in the Sometimes in Love series from Melonie Johnson. Cassie Crow and her best friends are on a dream European vacation when Cassie meets Logan Reid in a Scottish castle when he is doing a tv show/hidden camera prank as a time traveling Highlander. As Cassie kissed Logan before realizing who he is, she is less than pleased when he ask her to sign a release so the video can be uploaded to his website. When Cassie refuses to sign the release waiver, Logan does everything possible to change her mind.

I enjoyed Getting Hot with the Scot, but will say I felt like it started out a little slow. I think part of it was keeping up with all of Cassie's friends. I honestly kept getting them confused in the beginning. I did enjoy the romance between Cassie and Logan and the amazing chemistry between them. Seriously they were smoking hot together. I didn't love that Logan wasn't completely truthful with Cassie about little things like staying in the same hotel and the fact that he really wanted her to still sign the release waiver. It kinda broke my heart with Cassie found the waiver, however I liked her choice on handling it. Logan ends up in the state soon after Cassie leaves and as luck would have it, his tv show is taping in Chicago, where Cassie lives.

I really liked watching Cassie and Logan find their way once they were both in Chicago. I did think they both should have been more open with one another along the way, but did see them both mature and grow over the course of the story. As Logan had total commitment phobia thanks to the death of his father, I knew it would take something big to help him see he needed Cassie in his life. I honestly think that was the moment I finally saw growth with his character.

Getting Hot with the Scot was a fast and easy read. It was a very enjoyable contemporary romance that set up the second book in the series, Smitten with the Brit very well.

I'd never heard of this author before this, but I thought the premise sounded interesting, so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm sorry to say that this is one I should have passed by!

I had a hard time trying to keep all the characters straight between the friendships. It was a bit distracting and confusing, probably because the author just wanted to set up the next few books in the series. I think one or two scenes would have been good.

The romance felt shallow and a lot like insta-love, the plot absolutely dragged, and I it never really caught my interest. I had to force myself to read it, which is never a good thing. Ultimately, this story just didn't work for me. Maybe the next one will be better!

I'm not one to be able to resist a good rom-com featuring a hot Scot, so it didn't take much convincing for me to add Getting Hot with the Scot to my to-read list. This turned out to be a treat to read and by the end of it, I was eager to read more from Melonie Johnson.

Cassie is a pop-culture reporter on a TV show for aspirations beyond her current career. She wants to be pursuing what she considers more serious journalism. As a result, she hasn't had much time in her life to socialize and find a relationship. On a European vacation with her best friends, she decides to let loose, have fun, and perhaps have a fling with hot guy. Luckily for her, while gallivanting around a castle, she stumbles upon a very hot and charming guy in a kilt. Logan has an internet show on which he pranks people. Now he has caught the eye of a network in the US. Neither Cassie nor Logan has been a serious relationship before, so when they begin to develop feelings for each other after their short fling, they are both surprised. Johnson writes very good chemistry and Cassie and Logan had plenty of that. Their back-and-forth banter was also very enjoyable, making their relationship very easy to get invested in. Johnson shows the highs and the lows of their relationship brilliantly - I liked that she did not hold out on readers on the obstacles that Cassie and Logan had to work through to move their relationship forward.

As much I enjoyed the romance in Getting Hot with the Scot, it was the female friendships that were the cherries on the cake for me. I loved how tight-knit the group of women were and how supportive they were of each other. Melonie Johnson also sows the seeds for the next book featuring one of Cassie's friends, Bonnie and let me tell you, I was super invested in those snippets! Another highlight for me was all the traveling and sight-seeing. The author takes you on a journey along with these characters while Cassie is on her vacation. The writing here was also solid and very easy to get into. I will say that I found the first half to be stronger because I was much more into the earlier stage of Logan and Cassie's relationship.

Getting Hot with a Scot was a fun and romantic debut that hit all the right notes for me. The Sometimes in Love series promises to be excellent and I can't wait to read more from this author.

Gosh!!! This story gave me quite a few chuckles!!!!

The slang, witty dialogues, and intense passion between a pop culture reporter and the Scot in a kilt, is nothing less of entertaining or hilarious. Follow Cassie Crow as she gets hot with Scot, Logan Reid.

My first read of Melonie Johnson is a worthy read!

Having never read a book that was in Scotland I was thoroughly surprised and want to go to Scotland just like Cassie.

Four friends take a trip through the world and have the own adventure when their next stop is Scotland where Cassie meets Logan in an untraditional situation and realized she may be on the Scottish Punk'd. Cassie is just looking for an international one night stand and then she can forget him. But as both realize they can't forget about each other, especially when the man you thought you left behind follows you across the country to sign a contract. This book was adventurous, sweet, but also had dpfew heated moments. And yes, it was a romance, but it was also balanced with the characters' friendships in the books.

This started out as a fun book of 5 female friends on vacation in Europe together. Two of them take a bit of a back seat, which is good because it was a little difficult keeping the characters straight. Cassie is our female lead and she was hoping to have a fling while on the vacation of her life with her best friends. She ends up in a Scotish castle at a scotch taste testing, which left her a little tipsy. While trying to find the bathroom, she was redirected into a "punked" video staged by Logan Reid, our hero. They had instant chemistry and it was caught on camera. However, Cassie had interviewed a person who's career was destroyed by having been a person caught in one of Logan's pranks, so she knew not to sign the release papers. Logan needs to have her sign the papers so his career can move to the next level. Cassie is also trying to level up her career. Now we have the conflict. Logan pursues her initially for her signature and then for her. She lets him catch her and she gets her romantic fling. I'm not sure how it all works out, because the night before she's to go back to the USA, she finds the contract he wants her to sign and is very hurt. She abandons him and goes to the airport early. At the airport, she signs the contract. It's at this point that I stopped reading. I don't get why she signed it. About 50% of the book was her fighting him about signing that paper. None of the reasons for her to not sign it had gone away and there was indications that she felt betrayed. So, why sign? Perhaps if I finish it, I'd understand.

I do appreciate the opportunity to have read the book via Netgally and my thanks to the publisher for making it available.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing this ARC to me in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVE all things related to Highlanders so I was immediately intrigued and excited to read this novel. I hoped that I would not be disappointed - and I definitely was not. Cassie and Logan quickly became my heroes - for their wittiness, their fun, their charm, there issues, and real situations they were dealing with. From the first moment in the castle when Cassie saw Logan I was praying that they would end up together. The story was well developed and fun to read. It was cute and romantic with real life elements which made it more real and believable. I related to the characters and enjoyed the growing romance between them.

I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone 18 and older since it does have adult senses which may not be suitable for younger audiences.

Happy Reading and Enjoy!

Cassie is on a once in a lifetime trip with her friends to Europe. When she gets pranked in Scotland by Logan for his reality show, she refuses to sign the release. She’s building a career in broadcasting and doesn’t want it to ruin the image she’s carefully cultivated. Logan needs the release signed - it could be his big break. With the help of her friends, he finds her and takes her out. They have undeniable chemistry.

Cassie is a strong heroine who’s not afraid to make difficult choices. Logan is funny and unstoppable when he sets his mind to something.

They both have obstacles to overcome before they can be together. It’s a fun story with a happy ending. I liked her friends and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
