This pictures in this book are very nice. The story lacks a bit, but I still think kids would enjoy it.

Bright, colourful illustrations. Very clear and easy to understand for younger readers. My daughter particularly enjoyed it

The main selling point of this book is without doubt the beautiful illustrations that show Charlie the caterpillar conveying a message to young children that if you have a dream of what you want to be in later life then hold onto it for life is full of possibilities. Through the image of a caterpillar we see how endless in fact the possibilities are from a teacher to a rock star, from a lawyer to an explorer.

I suppose for a child it might have had more resonance if the main character was a little boy or girl looking into the future rather than a caterpillar and if an insect is to be used perhaps it would have been interesting to see Charlie aspiring to take on the roles of other insects like a bumbling bumble bee producing honey. Also the rather awkward rhyming does slightly grate and although I don't want to get too PC the use of "fireman" instead of fire fighter when 7% of the London Fire Brigade for instance is female sounds a bit anachronistic.

Despite a few quibbles this I'm sure will make a fun read for the intended audience and the book also includes a blank page for the child to draw what they aspire to and some colouring pages. Overall a recommended read for young children.

The book What Can I Be Today is a fun story and the book is filled with vivid and colorful pictures. It creates an atmosphere that is fun and engaging as well as an atmosphere of play and imagination. I love that the main character is a caterpillar, which is a small insect but his imagination of who he can be makes him anything but something small. He turns into a butterfly and wants to share the moral that everyone has potential to be anything that they can dream to be. Its a fun story that I believe children will love to read time and time again.

The book was cute, but mostly just repeated different things that the butterfly could be and didn't feel like an actual story. I did still love the message and the actives at the end of the book were a great added touch. There were great coloring pages and a spot to draw something that the reader wants to be. It was a great way to enhance the book!

In this picture book, Charlie the caterpillar, imagines all of the jobs that he could do. Does he want to be a doctor? a rock star? a rent collector? the one who mixes the cement? The possibilities are endless and cross a wide variety of skill and education levels.

What I liked in this book: The sense of possibility. The brightly colored illustrations and print pages that are colorful as well.

What could have used improvement: The story is told in rhyme but the verses feel a bit awkward and "clunky" to me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-book which encourages young children to dream big. The opinions are my own.

I really liked the pictures. They were cute, colorful and easy to understand, but I feel like the wording was a bit weird, like the integrity of the story was compromised just to get a rhyme (that didn't always work). I like how it encourages imagination and play and that kids can be anything they want to be! It's also cool that there is an interactive spot where they can draw and colour.

What Can I Be Today? is a delightful book that encourages children to dream of what they want to be when they grow up. The book is beautifully illustrated with first a caterpillar and other insects. The illustrations are colorful and child friendly. The prose rhymes, which as a pediatric speech language pathologist, meets the needs of many of my clients for literacy goals. The prose on the e-book was simply words, with no illustrations, so perhaps the bound book is different. A few small illustrations on those pages would help tie in the prose to the picture to the opposite page. The book also includes a blank page where a child can draw what they aspire to. Also included are coloring pages for children, to keep them engaged, while working on their fine motor skills. Perfect for a younger child!

Thanks to #NetGalley for an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This would be a great gift for a birthday or holiday! Four stars!

Another great book by Andy Gutman! This story follows Charlie, the caterpillar, though all the things he could be. Anything is possible if you dream it. Gutman encourages young readers to think about what they could be when they grow up and give that job to Charlie. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and cute.

This would make a fine addition to any child's library. The only complaint I have about the story (and why I can't give it 5 stars) is that Gutman uses "fireman" instead of fire fighter.

Thank you NetGalley and Dog Ear Publishing for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy.

I liked the colorful pictures of the butterfly as he explores the things he wants to be. I wasn't crazy about the rhyme. It felt forced and too simple for such a bright idea.
