Proof of Life by Sheila Lowe
Jessica Mack is an interesting character she loses her son in a bad car accident where she also sustained a concussion that caused her to have amnesia. Since the accident Jessica begins to hear voices not your normal crazy person voices the voices she hears are from the dead. We then learn that because Jessica has a spiritual connection to the after life she is trying to use her abilities to connect to a missing boy who may or may not be dead. This is an important case where she tries to use her powers to find where the boy is. Her powers are new to her so she is still learning how to figure out to make the connection to the individual.
Sage Boles is a young man who is handsome and has his eye on Jessica. He is not threaten by her abilities he encourages her. Sage has his own past to deal with that seems questionable. For Jessica she is not sure if she wants to get tied up into a relationship with a person who has a questionable past.
Ethan is the boy that is missing his father kidnaps him and takes him away. The race begins to find him dead or a live.
Can Jessica use her powers to find Ethan? What will happen between Jessica and Sage? Will Jessica get her powers under control? All this can be answered when you read this fast paced mystery. It was a very engaging story and it had me hooked from start to finish.
If you like mysteries with a little bit of a spiritual powers mixed in with a bit of romance then this book will be for you. This was a five star read for me. I enjoyed the mystery and understanding a lot more about being a medium.
Thank you to Net Galley and Suspense Publishing for a free copy of Proof of Life for an honest review. All thoughts and ideas expressed in this review are my own.

This book was not for me. I'm sure that others may enjoy it but once I started i found that it was too deep into the dark side of spiritual life for my liking.

Proof of Life was a pleasure to read. The storyline was easy to follow and interesting and the well-crafted characters make this a must-read for mystery lovers.
In this book, the 2nd edition of the series we find Jessica recovering from amnesia. She is forced to use her gifts of hearing voices from the spirit world when a 4-year-old goes missing.
Really enjoyed it and highly recommend Proof of Life.

A great book with a different kind of heroine! After a traumatic event, our heroine spends many years trying to get her life back on track. It's much harder for her because she now hears voices. Is she going crazy? When the voices become more than she can handle, she seeks help and finds out how to use her new "gift" to help find missing persons and solve crimes. While working to refine her skills, she meets and works with several skeptical people, making her job harder. She ultimately finds and saves a young child, turning her skeptics into believers.

My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I decided long ago that dogma serves no one and to keep an open mind about everything. After several decades of existence, I have come to a few conclusions: that there is very likely "energy" (some prefer the term "spirit") in everything, and that energy never dies. I also believe that there is good and bad energy - often generated by our own desires and actions. This book explores the ideas of an afterlife and the ability of spirits to contact their families once they have "crossed over". I rate this a 3.5 out of 5.

This was book #2 in the Beyond The Veil series. In this installment, Jessica is learning how to use her “gift” of hearing voices from the spirit world. This is a wonderful series but I do recommend starting with book one in order to get the full background on Jessica. The characters are unique and very likeable. I look forward to what comes next for Jessica.
Many thanks to Suspense Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book intrigued me with the title. I love stories that take me on a journey and this one surely did. Good vibes, a seance, a hot romance and the spirit world all add up to a great read. The subject matter of the communication with those who have died is handled factually and believably. Think of The Long Island Medium and you get the picture. I think this book will be your next “must read.”

Follow up to What She Saw, however you don't have to have read that first. I've been reading Ms Lowe for several years with her Claudia Rose series, her writing consistently gets better and better with each book.
This kept me entertained and wanting to know how she was going to save this child, read it in pretty much one sitting. The conversation flow was good between the characters with emotions clear. I will say I wanted to smack her twin sister a good one when she gets all high and mighty, and Zack deserved a good swift kick too. I will admit I wanted to see him get a bit of comeuppance after the way he treated Jessica, and she solves his case. The idea of mediums and spirituality was handled well here, it certainly wasn't something Jessica was going for, but it wasn't placed in the evil or ghostly world, it just is. Enjoyed this and sure we'll be seeing more of Jessica in the future.

I gave this book a 5 star rating because I thoroughly enjoyed it! It is well written and I couldn't put it down until the end. I will be looking for more of her books.

“Proof of Life” by Sheila Lowe is book two in the “Beyond the Veil” mystery series. Lowe gives readers a feel for the story right from the start with descriptions of the car accident. “Jessica Mack’s head hit the windshield, killing her instantly. Her spirit, detaching from her body, hovered above it for a short time before rising higher and higher above the cliff.” However, Jessica had not died, and after two weeks in a coma, woke up a very different person.
Jessica Mack lives Ventura, California, and has an identical twin sister. The story continues from her point of view. She became an artist, creating much sought after delicate miniatures. “Sculpting the tangle of roses and hollyhocks that climbed the trellis arch had taken days. The wren perched on the rim of a sundial, hours more. Crocus, lavender, and heliotrope, each tiny flower was a work of art.” The story continues in a casual style driven by conversations. She goes shopping, continues her art, and has lunch. All are ordinary activities for someone extraordinary, because she has a secret, a potentially troubling secret. She hears voices, voices of dead who have messages for the living
Readers follow along as Mack struggles with questioning her own stability, keeping her secret, and passing along messages to people who are not always grateful to hear them. She quietly assists FBI Special Agent Zach Smith in finding the body of a crime victim. The voices become more persistent, and her head is crowded with strange voices and visions. Then, she is asked a troubling question; “Can you ask if there’s some way to reach out to someone who’s alive?” Readers feel her pressure. Will she be able to decode the voice? Will she be able to intervene to save a life? The tension escalates page after page as the clock ticks.
“Proof of Life” explores the supernatural within the context of a compelling and heartwarming story. A familiar character makes an appearance when Claudia does Graphotherapy with the therapists once a month. I received a copy from Sheila Lowe, Suspense Publishing, and NetGalley. It is a captivating story without graphic violence that is easy to read Readers feel her pressure. Will she be able to decode the voice? Will she be able to intervene to save a life? The tension escalates page after page as the clock ticks.

Jessica Mack had amnesia five years ago after a bad car accident. She lost her son, Josh, in that accident which was caused by her drunken husband, Since that time, she has heard voices directing her to certain incidents. This book gives you a great vision into the spirit world. This was a well developed plot and characters. Thank you to Net Galley for an advanced readers copy.

“Proof of Life” is a follow-up book to ‘What She Saw’, part of the ‘Beyond the Veil Mystery’ series.
This is a convincing story about a woman who has the powers to experience requests from dead peoples’ spirits to communicate with their loved ones.
“Proof of Life” immediately captured my interest, helped along by Sheila Lowe’s fantastic writing and fascinating plot.
Even though I am not big on physic experiences, I loved the suspense of this novel and I would read more from Sheila Lowe.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel at my own request from Suspense Publishing via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I found this book to be okay, the characters were developed well, and the writing was good, but the style was far from my preferred style of writing therefore I give this book four out of five stars!

"Proof of Life" is a continuation of Jessica Mack's story who was introduced in Lowe's prior book, "What She Saw." It's not necessary to have read that book to enjoy this follow-up. I liked "Proof of Life", but enjoyed the prior book much more. I like Jessica and it's an intriguing premise that in the aftermath of her accident, she learns she has been given a new gift and works to develop it in this story to help the FBI in a unique way.
The paranormal/medium aspect is the main theme and although I found it interesting, the book as a whole didn't have the suspense of the previous book. It's well-written with likable characters. I was pleased to see Claudia Rose, from the excellent Forensic Handwriting series, plays a part in this book as well. Although "Proof of Life" isn't my favorite by Sheila Lowe, it's still a good book that I think her fans, as well as those who enjoy Wendy Corsi Staub or Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters series will enjoy.
I received this book from NetGalley through the courtesy of Suspense Publishing. The book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book so much! I’ve always been interested in the idea of extra sensory perception and other metaphysical gifts. This book does an excellent job of explaining the five different "clairs" in detail. I wasn’t aware of the differences. This story is about communicating with spirits and about heartache, relationships, family and friends. Reading this book was a great experience. My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I was hooked from the very beginning. Jessica died in the car accident that killed her young son Justin...but she came back. She was in a coma for weeks and then suffered from amnesia for awhile...this apparently happened in the previous book. The author did an excellent job tying the two books together. After Jessica regained her memory she began hearing the voices. Voices of those who've passed on and want to send a message to those left behind. She wants to refuse the spirits...but then Justin starts to make appearances. And then she is drawn in to help find Ethan. A missing little boy taken by his father. The suspense builds while she and her boyfriend Sage rush to find Ethan before it's too late.
I really enjoyed this book. The idea of clairvoyance and other psychic gifts has always interested me. I'm a big fan of Heather Graham and Kay Hooper and Proof of Life is reminiscent of their books.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

Jessica Mack survives a car accident where her son is killed. For years she suffers from memory loss, blackouts and the constant background whispers from the spirit world.
Jessica works as an artist creating miniature works of art – garden scenes, tea parties, animals and shadow boxes losing herself in the creations.
After five years the spirits become more insistent and demanding to be heard. From information in her graphic dreams Jessica gives information to her detective friend Zach that helps solve a murder.
I loved the way the characters interact and how Jessica is helped to understand her psychic abilities by friends. This story is about friends, family relationships, grief and communicating with spirits.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this amazing book
i knew i was onto a winner when i sat crying at the first chapter...my first book by this author and it wont be the last...what followed was a rollercoaster of a ride as a woman tries to come to terms with the voices that she hears..
at first she tries to ignore them but one voice keeps at her and she ends up helping and her body is found...after that these voices are at her 24/7
is she really having episodes of hearing ghosts or are they made up..her sister shuns her but as jessica explores more this side of her things start to happen
a rollercoaster of a ride with this one...one that has you crying in places and jumping for joy in others...
i am so going to be keeping an eye out for more of this authors work, this one can certainly write an amazing story, have already recommended this one to a few friends..

After surviving the accident that killed her son Justin, Jessica Mack finds she developed a unique ability: she hears dead people asking her for help. For several years she suppressed the voices but now, she is experiencing episodes of not remembering what she did or where she was when the voices come.
Unable to turn off the voices, Jessica shares information with her friend Zach, an FBI agent, that helps him solve a case. Then, as Jessica seeks relief from the continual stream of voices, Zach describes a routine case of a father taking off with his 4 year old kid. Jessica starts getting bits and pieces about this case but not directly as the boy and his father are still alive. In the meantime, Jessica meets Sage, an artist, who introduces her to Rev Bella Bingham and the Ojai Valley Spiritual Association. As Bella counsels Jessica on dealing with her ability she begins to learn how to manage this gift.
Sheila Lowe writes a convincing and believable story about a woman who experiences requests from the spirits of dead people to communicate with their loved ones. A talented wordsmith, Ms. Lowe creates a compelling mystery that combines a sensitive portrait of how unusual abilities affect a young woman with a suspense driven account of her impact on events. This mystery encourages an awareness of communicating with spirits and Ms. Lowe illustrates this ability with genuine understanding. An exceptional read.

Jessica Mack lost her beloved three-year old son, Justin, when her husband drove intoxicated and their car went off a cliff. Jessica barely survived, Justin is gone and her husband is in prison. Since the accident and after recovering from amnesia, Jessica began to hear voices. Now the voices from the spirit world cannot be ignored…they want messages delivered and justice for their deaths. When a murdered woman appears to Jessica, she is able to assist an FBI Agent in the location of the woman’s body. Jessica can now see the dead, as well as hear them, and realizes that she can help others with this “gift” that she has been given. With the help of Sage Boles and a séance, she will begin to take control of her life. A young boy is missing, kidnapped by his father. She hears the young boy’s voice, is he still alive? Will Jessica be able to find him in time before it is too late? Claudia Rose from the very enjoyable “Forensic Handwriting” series makes an appearance in this book. This was a wonderful read, with a paranormal aspect that questions life after death. No matter what your view on this, I want to believe that our loved ones, who have passed, are now at peace. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
